Soon her height becomes a watchtower for the plains. Zebras and antelopes feed nearby, trusting her distant [music] vision. If she runs, the whole neighborhood will run, too. By late morning, mothers guide calves toward taller cover. Here, a babysitting female watches a hidden calf nursery. Other mothers feed away, trusting the rotating sentinel behind. She gulps quickly, lifting her head every few seconds. Physics should flood her brain, yet special vessels prevent it. The rete mirabile and neck valves regulate that dangerous pressure. Then every ear turns. Something unseen shifts in the grass. She launches into a pacing run, both right legs together. >> [music] >> Soon both left legs follow, powering 60 km/h. Nearby zebras and antelopes bolt, too, trusting her alarm. If cornered, one adult kick can break a lion. Predators usually choose calves. >> [music] >> Adults are dangerous beyond appearance. By evening, the calves regroup beneath watchful mothers again. Bellies filled, she settles into dusk still [music] scanning everything. Heart, tongue, neck, instincts, wise design from God created life.
