The #2 Commandment of Dating: Be Authentic - Rabbi Eli Deutsch

The goal of a date is not to be liked. Welcome back to the 10 Commandments of Dating. This is commandment number two. Thou shalt be authentic. Here's the thing, people when they're going out on a date, they feel like they want the other person to like them. The thing is though, that's not the goal of the date. The goal of the date is not to be liked. The goal of the date is to be 100% real. If we're dating seriously, if we're looking for that special someone, if we're looking for a life partner, if we're looking for that person we're going to be married to and be living our life with, I want to know who they are and I want to make sure that they know who I am. That means that it's very different than when you're going to some extended family dinner. When you're going to Thanksgiving dinner, they tell you things not to talk about. Don't talk about religion. Don't talk about politics. Why? What's the goal at the family dinner really? Is to get through the dinner without a food fight. To get through the dinner where everything is calm and we can leave in a civilized way by the time it's over. However, that is not the story here when we're going on a date. When we're going on a date, we're trying to figure out is this someone who I want to build my life with. So, there it's very different. I want to know who they are and I want them to know exactly who I am. I want to speak about politics and religion right away. Bring it up first date. It certainly if it's something meaningful to you, certainly if it's it's what's important to you, if it's priority to you, bring that up right away. And the purpose here is that you're going to polarize your date. At the end of a date, it should be a heck yes or a heck no. Follow for the rest of the 10 Commandments.
