Stories of Tzadikim 96 | Sacrificing yourself for someone else

So you know there's once a year that his son was uh was sick was not doing well and so he was a the first so he brings his son to the balt for a so he gives a pigeon and someone gives the name so balty looks at it and the balt says you know he gives a braha everyone should be healthy and well uh but he says you know but there's an eight so there's someone in particular particular that we'll be able to give a to you and and uh it'll work uh very quickly for the excite okay who who is this so says I'll tell you where to go he said he gives the name of a particular town some distance away and he said there's a yid in that town will be able to help so this person with his son already knows clearly he's not meant to ask what the name of the person is okay he's told the town and So he says to the Rabbi, he says, "Okay, so when I go to this town, how do I know how to find them? What do I do? I've never been to this place before." So Baltani says, "It's not a problem. You'll go into the city. You go into the town and you'll notice sort of when you first enter into the the area to the right, you'll see um like mountains and hills and you'll notice you'll you'll see it'll it'll you'll it'll be noticeable. There's a particular house, a large house on top of one of those hills. Go stay by that y. go by that. Okay. Then the then the person asked about Tanya and so what should I what should I do when I'm there? So Tanya said just hang out in the shook, hang out in the marketplace, just uh take in the sites. Okay, that's what he does. So he takes his son a few days journey to this particular town and it's exactly how the Baltan said it. He goes into the city and he turns to the right and he sees mountains and hills and he notices this particular house on top of one of the hills very distinct. And so he figures that this must be the house of the Vatan he was referring to. So he goes knocks on the door and um he doesn't say why he's there cuz he you know he doesn't even know what to say. So he just says, you know, I'm uh I'm someone that's traveling and I'm passing through this town. You know, is it okay if I uh say take me in as a guest? So this is a very fine Jew. He says 100%. You know, we'll take you and we'll take care of you. Fine. So he comes in, he puts his bags down, spends the spends the day, spends the night. The next day, um this Jew, this father and son, so they leave the home and uh like they do what the Bani said, which is just go to marketplace and hang out. fine. He spends hours there just walking up down the streets. He he doesn't know what to do. That's what the Banani said to do. So later that evening he comes back to his you know host's home and uh his asked him so how was your day took in some of the sites. Okay very nice fine. The same thing repeats itself until the next day. The yetid also wakes up in the morning, goes to the marketplace, dre around the whole day, comes back in the evening and the host asks him again like what you how was your day? Good. Just you know going to the marketplace and now the host is thinking like what is the deal with this person? He's staying in my house which I'm happy for him to stay but like it doesn't seem that he's doing anything now. So after this repeats itself the next day. So the host says to the guest, he says, "Listen, with all due respect, I'm just out of curiosity. What are you doing here? Every day you just seem to be just uh hanging out of the marketplace. What exactly?" So he says, "I'll tell you the truth. It's going to sound like a little bit of a crazy story, but this is the real truth." The truth is that as you can see, my son is not doing well and uh we're from the Vela and we asked about time what to do. Valani said, "Come here." And he gave specific in, you know, sort of descriptions of your home. And he said, "Stay by you and hang out in the marketplace during the day. That's that's why I'm here." So this says, "The Baltani sent you to me." Huh? But he's clearly you're the you're the house that he was referring to. So the person says, "It makes sense based on the description that you said from the Baltan, but I'm not a I'm not a Reb. I'm not Pushu. How am I supposed to bring you? I don't know." And then at that moment, an idea comes to his mind. What's the idea? He says, "You know what? I'm thinking now that we're speaking out loud. It could be that the Balta meant not necessarily that I would be the one to bring the Yeshua, but maybe I know someone that will." I think the Balta was referring to my son-in-law. What's the story? He says, "Let me tell you the story about my son-in-law. Years ago, I was I went to sh one day." He said, "You can tell. I'm a you know, successful person. and uh I have a large business in in the city and you know an influential person. So I come into the shul and I notice in the back of the sh there's like a a baker uh baker sitting in the back of the shaw doing learning and I know everyone in the town I I know that this is of new face so he's clearly not from around here but just showed up and I can tell just from the way he's ding and learning it's like a very sincere boy so I sort of uh befriended him. I asked him what his name is, how is he doing and so on and so forth. I made sure he had food to eat and and a roof over his head. And over time, over the months and so we began to develop a relationship. And I saw that you know if I needed an uh like uh you know someone to work for me in one of my businesses for a few weeks just to help out, I would hire him to give him some extra you know uh money to live and so on. And slowly but surely our relationship developed. I came one day he said that I hired him for a certain amount of time to be a watchman for one of my properties. So the way it was is that the watchman comes at night and he sits in his little hut or something just watching the property. Not a hard job. Um so he says one night when when this young man was one of my watchmen so I decided I couldn't sleep at night whatever it is. I decided to take a walk and I was passing by this uh property that he was watching and and I saw from the hut that he was from. I saw this light this like and then I heard this sound this beautiful singing. It's very peculiar. So I went over to see what it was and I, you know, sort of peaked in and I saw that this young man, he was sitting and learning from whatever Saber was learning. He was shining and he was singing this beautiful song and it really like um it really took me to the point of I I found myself not being able to leave and just watching the scene. So fine, but eventually I went home and I went back the next night and and it repeated itself again. So then I realized that this is not just a regular person. this is a special special sadic that's just hiding himself, you know. And so I realized that not only do I want to have him part of my workforce, I want to have him part of my family. So I made arrangements for him to marry my daughter to become my son-in-law. And as when was being arranged, you know, in order to for them to become engaged. So I sort of uh off the cuff made a remark to him indicating that I know who he is like, you know, his secret his secret saved with me that he's a big sadic, but I know he's a big sadic. When my son-in-law, my future son-in-law heard that, he became very nervous and he said, "I put in a lot of effort to hide myself and the fact that you know who I am really gives me second thoughts about this whole which which made the father-in-law a little bit uneasy." So he said, "But here's the deal. The deal is I'll marry your daughter, but not only do you have to promise that you're that the secret's with you, but but don't even interfere with my avoid like when we need to come to you, so to speak, we'll come to you, you know, I'll call, you know, we'll call you, don't call us, that type of thing. So he said, but that was the deal. I wanted him to be part of my family. He's clearly like, whatever. So that was the deal. So this is what this Balabas is telling his guests. He says, "I haven't seen my son-in-law in a while. He lives on the other side of town. Um, but clearly this is it's it must be the Bani sent it to me. It's got to be because I have an inn with my son-in-law and he's going to be the talic that's going to help you." So, I'll bring it to him. Okay. So, father and son go with the with the Balab bus and they they travel to the other side of the city and there's a you know a little little house over there. knocks on the door and this uh person with a very strong hajas pon opens the door and it's the son-in-law. So the son-in-law says you know he sort of with with his eyes say like you know I thought the deal is we come to you not you to me but okay so the father-in-law says you know whatever his name was Yian whatever it is this is uh you know this is a guest of mine the son and he he gives him the whole story and uh and he says but maybe you could you could help out. So the the son-in-law brings them in. They sit down and the person says over the ma and the son-in-law sits back and he says, "I'll give you that your son should be, you know, should be healthy and happy and good." But he says, "But but the one thing I I can't I can't get over right now." And the person says, "What is it?" He says, "The Balta found me even here." He found me even here. He said I was running and hiding so well and so far but the sador the van I could run but I couldn't hide he was able to find me over here and so to me when I hear that na what it tells me is the following lesson is that what the bala who's the who's the sadic had was trying to hint to that lower level sadic that son-in-law is that the definition of a sadic is not so much in terms of their lofty spiritual levels and places that they can reach in heaven. But the true definition of a sadic is someone that's willing to help other Jews and to sacrifice maybe some of their own uh heavenly space you know in order to descend and to deal with a father and son who's you know who needs who needs help and um and that's what the ban was saying. This this lowered sadic the son-in-law was running around trying to hide. But the sadicar was able to find him and gives him over that lesson and that message which is if you the holiest thing in the world is to help another Jew and that's what the Baltan was teaching him and that's what Baltan is teaching all of us. We should all be to use all the strength that Hashem has given us not in order for our own development our own spiritual growth only but also to help other Jews and to uplift them as much as possible.
