Stories of Tzadikim 95 | Helping another YID

I give the work. So, I'll tell you my son. One of the greatest sitting masters that we've spoken about many times is the great Khlayzer of Lublin, the seer of Lublin. The Khlayzer had very good eyes. Khlayzer was able to see through a person. So, the story goes like this. In the town of Lublin by the Khlayzer, so there was a certain Yid. And this Yid, it's hard to know whether he was like altogether 100% but he had a thing in his head. His thing was that every Arab Shabbos, he would go to the mikvah where all the men came to tie with Arab Shabbos. And his thing was he would somehow in some way get hundreds of combs. And he would give out combs to everybody Arab Shabbos. That was his thing. Everyone, you needed a comb, you wanted a comb, didn't make a difference, you're getting a comb. And that's a That was his thing was every Arab Shabbos, he would give out just all day long he would sit by the mikvah and give combs out to everybody. Every Arab Shabbos, one of the Shabbos, every week, even if you had the combs from the previous week, didn't make a difference, you're getting a comb. That was his That was his thing. Now, the Khlayzer used to say that, you know, he said, "In this world you look at You look at it like, okay, he's a guy, he's a little bit of a meshugass with combs." The Khlayzer used to say though his avoyda this chessed that this Yid is doing is mamish the highest thing in the world. It's such a big mitzvah to be so sensitive to the needs of another Jew that you're thinking to yourself, a Jew out of the mikvah maybe needs a comb for his hair, for his beard, for his payos, whatever it is. So, and to provide a comb like that, it's it's the it's the biggest thing in the world. The Khlayzer would always say praises about this Jew and the chessed that he did. Now, in the meantime in the city of Lublin, the rebbe was the Khlayzer, but there was a rov. The rov of Lublin was not a follower of the Khlayzer, quite the opposite. He was not a follower of Chassidus. He was a an opponent, a misnaged against Chassidus and against the Khlayzer himself. And so he this Rov got wind of the fact that the Khoyzer keeps on talking about how amazing this Yid is, the the comb guy, the one that gives out the combs. So, yeah, the Rov felt it was like, it's ridiculous. He's a little bit of a, you know, interesting personality. He gives out combs, but it's it's insignificant. So, one time this Rov met up with the Khoyzer and he said, "I heard that you talk about big things about that Yid that gives out the combs." And the Khoyzer like, "Yeah, it's part of Shulchan Aruch of the Gemara." So, the the Rov says, "Well, you're wrong." The Khoyzer how do you know I'm wrong? So, the Rov says, "I'll ask you a kasha. I'll prove that you're wrong." "How how how so?" So, the Rov says, "The Gemara says like this. The Gemara says that when Dovid HaMelech was in the bathhouse, so Dovid HaMelech looked at himself and he would begin to feel bad and he says, 'I'm bereft of mitzvahs. I don't have anything I don't I don't have anything to show for myself. I'm not wearing tefillin, obviously I'm not putting on tzitzis, I'm not learning, I'm not davening. I have no mitzvahs to do.' Until the Gemara says he realized, 'Oh, but I do have a bris milah.' So, he was he was mesameach. He he he he he brought himself back to life with the memory and the and the and the you know, the the the the real the realization that at least he has a bris milah." So, asked the Rov to the Khoyzer, "If giving out combs in the mikvah is such a big deal, then why does Dovid HaMelech have to rely on the fact he has a bris milah? Why doesn't he give out combs to everybody?" That's what the That's what the Rov asked to the Khoyzer. So, you see, if Dovid HaMelech didn't do that, it means it's not such a big deal. So, So, the Khoyzer said, "Rov, without due without the respect, you forgot a Mishnah." "What's the Mishnah?" "The Mishnah says in Sanhedrin that there's a mitzvah in Torah that a king has to be seen with dignity." "Says the Mishnah in Sanhedrin, a king is not allowed to be seen in uh in an unrespectful situation. Says the Mishnah, therefore, when a king goes to the bathhouse or the mikvah or anything like that, he has to go himself. He can't go with anyone else." So, says the Khoyzer, "You're right. If there were other people in the mikvah in the bathhouse with the Khazer, of course, he wouldn't have to rely on the bismilla. He would give out combs. And that would be the overall good thing, just like this Yid does. Happens to be a king doesn't have anyone else in the bathhouse with him because it's not respectful for him. So, the Khazer is by himself. He has no one to give combs out to. So, then he has no choice but to remind himself of the fact that at least he has a bismilla. So, the Rav said said the Khazer, okay, very nice little back and forth we just had. Combs, giving out combs, this is a big deal? The Khazer said, listen, I can't explain to you all the secrets that I know and that I see. But at the end of the day you have a Yid, whatever you want to call him, a shigutz, whatever it is. This Yid is being maser nefesh. He's dedicating himself. He's spending money and his time, whatever it is, to give what other Yidden what he thinks what other Yidden need. That itself is literally the greatest thing in the universe, to be maser nefesh, to sacrifice yourself and your time and your finances to help another Yid. That is the greatest thing in the in the whole universe. You might not believe and belittle, you know, that gift of a comb. But for that Yid the comb is a big deal. And because it's a big deal for him, that means that he's dedicating his days in order to help Yidden for that. And that itself is the greatest thing and the greatest blessing of all. Hashem should bless us. Everyone should have the combs that they need. Everyone should have the good things that they need. Everyone should be able to provide and to help other Yidden. And we should be mashiv all the all the all the mitzvahs that we do and all the matanos that we give and all the mesirus nefesh that we have for another Yid. We should realize that's takah the greatest thing in the entire universe. Hashem should bless bless us this coming week with shefa bracha v'hatzlacha. We should all be blessed with a bracha v'hatzlacha v'brius meinuchas amen.
