Some Torah For Yom Kippur
108 views
After the holiest person in the world completed the holiest Avodah of the year, what did the Kohen Gadol do? He went home to his wife and children. Chaim Ghoori shares a beautiful perspective on Yom Kippur and what holiness actually looks like. Sometimes serving Hashem isn’t staying in shul longer. Sometimes the holiest place you can be is exactly where your family needs you.

We're coming up on Rosh Hashanah, Yom
Kippur. What is a Yom Kippur idea that
you connect to?
>> think for a second?
>> Yeah, of course.
>> The most [music] powerful moment that we
get to is when the Kohen Gadol says
Hashem's name. Gets up there and says
Hashem's name. And [music] then what do
we say at that moment?
>> Baruch shem k'vod malchuto l'olam va'ed.
>> We bow down.
>> Yeah.
>> Think about it. It's a very interesting
thing cuz Baruch [music] shem k'vod
malchuto l'olam va'ed.
>> Blessed is the name of his kingdom.
>> His kingdom.
>> We talk about the kingdom.
>> The kingdom [music] is the Jewish
people. We hear Hashem's name and the
first thing we think about is his
kingdom. Who's his kingdom? Hidden.
[music]
>> Yeah.
>> And the whole thing like the whole
avodah of Yom Kippur is like we are
trying to get out to the place where the
Kohen Gadol says Hashem's name, but then
what ends up being revealed is the
beauty of his kingdom. The beauty of the
Jewish people.
>> And I think that's a very, very powerful
thing. And then right after he does that
stuff, he goes home to his family.
>> Like as if like that's the ultimate
goal.
>> then what does he do like [music] at the
end? He goes home.
>> Mhm.
>> He goes home to his family.
>> You know, you think about it. Not a lot
of people [music] like especially our
age like get to do the full Yom Kippur
avodah.
>> My wife just had a kid. The guy just
>> We end up like doing [music] a lot of
like avodah.
>> Not everybody gets to stay in shul.
>> Yeah.
>> But maybe staying in shul is not
necessarily the highest thing. The Kohen
Gadol after the whole avodah went to go
>> Wow. Where did he go? With his wife and
children.
>> If you have a Yom Kippur concept [music]
or an idea, let us know in the comment
section. We'd love to hear from you.
