Lido Beach Shul

When's the last time you saw the word beach in the name of your synagogue? We're continuing our journey to say Shema in front of every single shul in the world. Come check it out. >> Beach Synagogue feels like a surfer town with a shul. Its warm accents and inviting architecture reflects the relaxed spirit of the quiet beach community it serves. People come here for a slower pace of life while staying just minutes from the vibrant Five Towns. >> the only town in the US that has no [music] The only religious building in the town is a shul. >> That's a cool fact. >> What was the original community like? Were they doctors? Were they vacationing here? Were they living here? >> Heavily Carpathian. A lot of them came from the Carpathian [music] Mountains after World War II. They settled in they were in Long Beach. They were looking for a place that was more suburban than Long Beach. Long Beach is a little bit more city. >> Mhm. >> So they came here. There was a lot of people who were They didn't want to live in the city. They wanted to live outside of the city but close enough. >> What's also quite amazing is that this community is still bustling today. >> On Shabbos now in the summer [music] there's a ton of people who come who live in the city who have summer houses here. So like in the summer it's standing room only. We have a kiddush every week. There's a full lunch. People don't make lunch on Shabbos. They eat here year year round. Great for the kids. >> It's a good spot. >> Yeah. >> So in my hand I'm holding the first volume of the Lido Beach Jewish Center Eitz Chaim from March 1966. This was like a Shabbos Divrei Torah. What's really cool is that I'm holding the Nekuda Tova our weekly Torah pamphlet.
