60 Year Old Butcher Shop

One of the quintessential institutions in a Jewish community is the butcher. And in Long Beach, at its peak, [music] it had 10 kosher butchers. >> To build a Jewish community, you need a few essential institutions. A shul, a school, and a place [music] to buy kosher food. For more than 60 years, this neighborhood butcher shop has helped provide one of those essentials. >> Where we're standing, Shop Glatt is over 60 [music] years old. Mosha and his wife came from Iran and took over this store about 30 years ago. If you come and look closely, you can still see all the old kind of like remaining artifacts, neck [music] and patty, veal ground. >> When a Jewish community starts, there is no kosher option. There's no [music] such thing as ordering on Amazon, right? >> When you came here in the 40s or 30s, there's nothing. Which means that you have to get the chickens, you have to shecht them, and then butcher them, right? That's how you get your fresh kosher meat. We don't appreciate where it comes from.
