Because the K Cup has the coffee grind, the water, the hot, the very hot water drips in or pours in. It brews it and when it's ready, it drips through that pin hole into your cup. So basically, you're just creating a old-fashioned brewing coffee like the percolator is from 50 60 years ago. But lisa, the pins seem to be metal. So had it been just that the pin makes a hole, we could say it's like a can opener, it's not. But it's more than that. The pin is sort of like a spout that allows the waters to drip go through into the K cup. The bottom pin allows the percolated coffee, brewed coffee to drip into the cup.
