Join me as we learnish for Thursday the
fifth Torah reading of Paras Truma
chapter 26 verse 31. Yesterday we
learned about the details of how the
construction of the walls, the planks,
the brackets, the sockets and its
measurements of the building of the
tabernacle. Today we continue with the
opening the doorway and other parts of
the tabernacle.
Verse 31
and you would make a curtain
which will then be made out of turquoise
wool and scarlet wool, purple wool and
scar and shani and scarlet wool mazar
and twined linen.
It should be woven a woven design.
You should the should be woven in them.
Verse 31.
What does the word mean? A partition
like the sages called it parid. A
partition
something that separates the king from
the people.
As we mentioned previously when he made
the other curtain, each one of these
kinds were then stranded.
They were made up of six different
strands that each one of these four
kinds
had in it, meaning the turquoise, the
scarlet, and the wool and the linen.
Each one of them was tw intertwined. And
if together you had 24 strands old,
intertwined one with the other.
I already explained previously in verse
one.
This was a special type of tapestry that
when they would weave, it would happen
on both walls at the same time. that
there were pictures from both sides.
The two pictures as Rashi explained it
could be a lion on one side and an eagle
on the other and they were woven
together.
So what is the kim over here? Images of
creatures of animals.
Verse 32.
What are you going to do with the skirt?
You're going to hang it.
You're going to put it on fourwood
columns
that are covered in gold.
of their hooks would be gold
and they would be sitting on four silver
sockets.
Where were these four poles?
These four poles would be sitting in
four silver sockets
and they had hooks on them on the top of
the beams which were bent towards above.
They would have these sea hooks that
would go up. In the hooks they would
hold put a beam and on the beam is what
they would hang the curtain on.
These these hooks were called. The
reason why they're called a VV because
it looked like a VV because a piece that
sticks out protrudes and you're able to
sit something on it.
The size of the curtain was
10 wide
for the width of the Mishkan going from
north to south.
And it was the width of the height of
the beams of the planks.
It was put on a third going into the
tabernacle.
So you put a beam one curtain was put 10
amas a third into the tabernacle that
means coming from the west that's where
the holy of holy was the holy of holies
was 10 by 10 10 amas with width and 10
amas long the other 20 amas was we are
the minora the table and all the other
things were
it says
you will put the curtain under the hooks
which connect the two sections of the uh
yuras of the two coverings that were on
top of it and the width of each one of
those connections was 20 amas. So as we
explained previously the way they
situated and they put them under. So if
I put directly 20 amas where's the beam
where the beams where the sections how
they were separated the holy of holies
from the holy because you went by the
roof. The roof was 20 amas long where
the connection was and by that
connection is where you set the curtain
to separate the two rooms
as Rashi explained previously.
um
then when he spread them out on top of
the roof of the Mishkan from the door to
the westk
if you go twothirds of the Mishk is 20
down
and the second connection the second
tapestry was already on the other third
of the tabernacle and the leftovers
was hanging in the back to cover the
beams that were in the back of the
tabernacle.
Verse 33.
As we just mentioned, where are you
going to place this curtain? Underneath
the hooks, the hooks that were
connecting the two papistries.
And then you will bring there on the
other side of the curtain. It's the
covenant, the ark of the covenant.
And this curtain will then separate for
you
between the sanctuary which and the holy
of holies.
Verse 34.
Once then you shall have them place the
cover on the ark of the covenant
in the holy of holies. So in of holy of
holies, you're going to put the ark of
the covenant covered with the krubim
which is has the special cover on it and
in it will be the tablets of the uh the
the the two tablets.
Verse 35
and then you're going to place the table
on the outside of that curtain. So that
curtain separates the holy of holies to
the sanctuary
and the manura will be
opposite the table on the south side of
the tabernacle
on the south side of the tabernacle
and the table will be placed on the
north side.
The tables on the north side
a little bit away from the north wall
two and a half cubits
is going to be on the south side
also moved away from the southern wall
two and a half
cubits in the golden altar
will be slightly in the middle between
in the empty space between the table and
the manura.
So if you take the sanctuary and split
it in three, you're going to have the mo
you're going to have the table on the
north, the manora on the south, and then
it will be the altar would be towards
the middle
will be towards it will pulled a little
bit towards the east side. That means
towards the entrance while the table and
the minor are going to be more towards
the west closer to the holy of holies.
the is going to be closer to the opening
but all of them are right away in the
first half of the mishk. So for example
if you go from the length of the mishk
to the entrance
towards the west is 10
then
everything else is pulled towards the
front. So you have the sanctuary 10
cubits deep. Then in the last 10 cubits
closest to the west, you're going to
have there the table, the altar, and the
manura.
Verse 36,
now you're going to make another
curtain.
You're going to make a curtain which is
screen for the entrance of the tent
that's going to be made out of torque
wool and purple wool and scarlet wool
and linen.
This is going to be an embroidered type
of tapestry.
The word means a curtain.
This is going to be a curtain against
the door. The entrance of which is going
to block the entrance.
The word which is brought in comes from
the word to block up.
What does this mean? A woven type of
tapestry, an embroidered type of
tapestry.
The difference in this case would be
that the images that were on the curtain
on this front side will be the same
image that's on the back side.
The word raikim which means embroidery.
It's a type of craftsmanship
the the actual person is called an
embroiderer not they're talking about an
embroidery and he says
a person who makes this type of stuff
the size of this curtain was the same
size as the curtain that was inside
is 10 by 10 was 10 is wide and 10 is
tall as the width of the actual entrance
of the actual
entrance of the tabernacle as well as
the height of the planks.
Verse 37.
And then how is this curtain going to
stand? You're going to make for this
curtain.
It's going to have five
uh pillars, five beams of wood.
You will coat them with gold.
They would have golden hooks.
However, this is going to be different.
In the inside curtain, these sockets
were silver. The outside curtain, which
is for the door, those sockets are going
to be five copper sockets. And those are
going to be one cubit tall, one cubit
wide, and one cubit thick. That they
would be placed, these beams in it, that
they should be able to hold up the
curtain, the entrance for the
tabernacle. This concludes the fifth
Torah reading for Parius Tuma.
