good morning everyone you are listening
to table for two in the army Nachman on
the knock'em Seagal Network I am so
excited to be back in the seat um it's
always good to be here right here on the
Lower East Side for those of you don't
know me you're tuning in for the very
first time I'm near me Nachman and I'm
about all the food all the time I love
food I love shopping for food cooking
food eating at restaurants anything food
related I'm a kosher personal chef my
business called the Aussie gourmet and I
give cooking classes I run chopped
competitions I've read a cookbook I
rather than watch a magazine I have so
much fun with food and the most fun I
have is being right here in the studio
on the knock'em Segal Network I want to
hear from you each week so if you have a
great foodie experience I'd love to hear
it I'd love to hear about it from you
guys so just email me Naomi at knock'em
seagulls comm you can join my Instagram
Facebook Twitter Pinterest and you can
watch our show every week I don't know
if you know this you can watch our show
as well as listen you know the joke you
ever face for radio we're actually here
you can have a face for radio because
everything is on YouTube on the Nahum
seagull knit channel so you can watch
table for two I'm actually going to jump
my little bit of intro that I do after
this where I talk about where I went and
all that and what's coming up next
because I actually have eight Humber
nothing in the other line on the line
he's actually Godfrey between classes
now and we want to talk to him because
he has just rocked through the galaxy
right now on Instagram so I'm gonna
welcome a Tom Burnett from new jersey
right now on the phone from fresh high
school hi a time good morning hey how do
you feel right now I'm doing great I'm
just having a blast and I'm really
excited to see what the combat now that
this whole teacher let's back let's back
down a little bit I mean you know take a
few steps back you and I know what
happened but let's tell our audience
what happened to you in the last couple
of weeks that propelled you into stardom
even more
besides Pedro so basically I think it
was two Thursday's ago I got an email
from Instagram from one of the people
are there on their editorial team from
actual Instagram from the actual people
that owned and run Instagram yes and
they said you know that they wanted to
work together on a cool project not good
even try to sound cool I totally flipped
out obviously and and I told them I was
obviously super interested and I'd love
to and so you were telling more about
the project instagrams old phone calls
and in the end what happened was is they
did a feature about me on their
Instagram page so we think Instagram has
their own Instagram page
makes sense with yeah and on their
Instagram page they have two hundred and
twenty-nine million Instagram followers
which is kind of crazy I looked it up
and that's the equipt that even these
followers are global but it's the
equivalent of 70 percent of the US
population it's crazy Wow item that's
amazing
so Instagram featured you on instagrams
page on Instagram so we did we did it
first that's one of the things we did
which was like I don't say the main
thing was a feature on their actual
needs like their normal post so they had
some interview me and they wrote a
little called a blurb or an article
about me in the caption and then for the
picture a few days before they put like
a week before they posted it I did a
photo shoot in a city with my
photographer and stylist and and we did
a whole picture special for Instagram to
post so that was the first part that was
the hanukkah pot with you holding a
donor yeah I just want to tell everyone
I'm gonna just pause you for one second
item was wearing a yarmulke when he was
featured he I mean he always wears a
yarmulke but the yarmulke is showing
okay that is so cool you might be the
first kosher Jewish Instagram of being
featured on Instagram yeah I mean I'm
not a hundred percent storks they have
like thousands of
they cost like multiple times today I
wasn't able to check everything but I
wouldn't be surprised which is really an
honor it really really is it's unreal
I'm actually gonna hold up to the screen
Thank You Ruffy for getting that for me
Ruffy Bernstein in the house as well as
as a Billy Shui key from candy and
cattle I just got to make sure I say
them the right order I was calling it
Catalan candy but it's candy candy
always comes first
okay everyone who was watching on our
youtube channel that is the picture that
a ton is holding up
he's donut so gorgeous such a gorgeous
photo okay tell me more about that day
so we did that photo shoot which was so
much fun just I mean even just shooting
like the actual pictures arm with the
flash like in the city it was a lot of
fun we did like four or five outfits and
young that was like the best shot so I
sent them that and and so is the first
part and then the other part of the
feature the first part lasts forever
that will forever be on their Instagram
page but the second part has actually
already disappeared it's on their
stories and so they don't know Instagram
stories only last 24 hours and on their
so on their Instagram story I did a
story of the kind of introducing myself
and putting together Alana Camille okay
that was amazing that yeah it is
fantastic if you are not following a
turn already because I think now that
you know that 70% of the Instagram
population has is already following you
so for the 30% is not guys you got a do
not from seagull Network and a Tom
Burnett right now this is amazing
hey Lucas besides being on the napping
seagull Network on table for two what
has been the highlight of your career so
far I think I would say this I think
honestly this is probably one the most
exciting things that's probably ever
happened to my career also I think it's
I already have already seen from the
results from it like for example I could
be a little off but as of now I think I
got like 12 or 13 thousand followers
from it which is insane that's almost my
whole following
but that happens in Sunday I'm just
saying yeah and so right now I think I'm
a little under 35,000 and I was also
crazy is he's on Instagram if you love
business account you can check how many
times people saw your account and I just
checked in and hit a million this week a
million times people sound like so a
million times people saw my account this
week because it's like crazy 1 million
times how crazy oh my god I am so proud
a time I met you your and I think 12
years old
we met at confessed I you just come off
from jibing chopped and your career has
soared you become part of the kosher
foodie family of the head of leading the
leading champion of the kosher media
marketers as I always call it on on the
foodie Network and the Jewish foodie
Network I should I should speak say and
it's just been amazing following you
thank you thank you
it's crazy like we had this mentor like
the few of us we be kind of like we're
helping a town's beginning and now
actually the tables have turned and he's
mentoring us now right yeah it's crazy
but you guys have been awesome you
Melinda shout-out Melinda yeah you guys
there's my adventures with all this and
it was actually so hard
basically I tailed Melinda and I own
everything those viewers listening or
watching but for this I wanted to be a
surprise it was so hard not telling you
guys oh my god I was freaking out we
were driving up to the Poconos over
Chanukah to the Chanukah kalahari and
all of a sudden I see this post and I'm
like oh my god I made my family like
everybody look at this look at what
happened to a ton so it's really amazing
Kollek about you that you're a proud
Jewish young man wearing a yarmulke
doing things celebrating Hanukkah and
all of you dish cry and and just being a
superstar in the in the big wide world
and a leader and and someone who's
showing our youth how to behave and you
can be sneers and you can be from
and just everything in in the Jewish eye
in public it's fabulous
you're a real role model you're such a
role model
thank you okay now I believe a ton has
to go back to class now yeah I and this
actually was perfect timing
yeah I have I have a short free right
now bread class what have you got what's
what's next in the class mystery mystery
oh that's fine I actually like history
know anything about yeah we're learning
about the French Revolution now oh good
one I actually like that I've actually
been to Versailles and all that where a
lot of action happened yeah that's
that's a great and French food is you
know always the best yeah so you should
actually do a French history and tying
in French food that would be like the
influence it had on us all of us because
French food is everywhere yeah okay cool
so you go back to class you keep doing
what you're doing cuz we're just
following you and proud of you and we
can't wait to see what's next
can you tell us quickly what's next so
right now what I'm doing is I'm really
working on growing growing my Instagram
my food blog I'm trying to create like
as much content as I possibly can
figuring out like what my brand is and I
have pretty big goals I want to hit a
hundred thousand followers by the end of
2018 and also be at a point where I'm
like doing awesome content different
things so I'm just working towards that
and who knows what else will come I mean
if you ask me choose three weeks ago
eight hundred my Instagram I would be
like no way so it's amazing amazing all
right off to class and and thank you so
much eight on your rock star and we will
be in touch soon thank you for having me
all right thank you bye Wow okay he's
really a unbelievable young man I don't
want to call him a kid he's he's grown
up now he was on the show many times we
we check in with him every couple of
months and we had the show pretty much
said and then I'm like I got to get a
ten on the show because he was that was
a huge thing to be a coach
to have kosher out there like that for
224 million followers I mean there's
only 300 and something million Americans
and 200 and you know I mean I know the
224 million come from part from
Australia and part from here and part
from there globally but that's really
cool
all right let's do 800 to go back to
that class so I forget you know during
his free so I kind of switched the show
around Olympics I just want to do a
little bit of catch up that I normally
do have to do my intro I wanted to see a
a drumroll we have a winner from the
Pele contest that we had couple weeks
ago he's got to look for it and the
winner is no drumroll it's not ok
everybody bang on the table
Sara Kasdan congratulations ok that was
good
Sara Kasdan you have won a box of
assorted pillow products we will get
that shipped out to you so you can email
me and we'll get you all the info and
get you your stuff um so since I was
here a couple weeks ago actually we did
a show last week so it was like a couple
weeks ago I did I didn't get a chance to
do my um
Miami food crawl I just want to share a
loop I went down to Florida I out for a
chopped competition I actually had to
one in Miami and one on Orlando and in
between I did a kosher food crawl on
kosher comm which is if you're not
following it already amazing kosher comm
is a website where I have cooking videos
and there are articles everything kosher
is sourced in one place like you can
find all kinds of articles and videos
and it's really it's really something
demos as well like how to set your table
to how to make stuffed cabbage I did a
whole bunch of new videos as well which
will go up so you can find all kinds of
great things there but they also have an
Instagram page I took over the Instagram
and I did a whole food crawl in Miami
which was so much fun so I just want to
give a shout out to some of the
restaurants that I loved and had a great
time eating out and meeting people like
people just kept joining me first of all
there was tasty beach in Miami Beach
that was great off 41st Street Zach the
Baker loved Zach the Baker here
is has two places now in the Wynwood
area wagos and aqua both in waterways
sucia tap is 26 and have a grill and
back out barbecue all those three are on
that on harbour side Surfside sorry on
surf side are there in miami area so
that was amazing and Grand Cafe in the
Fort Lauderdale area Hollywood area
fabulous food loved it and you know what
was really nice about being in foreigner
eating outside whenever I could I
couldn't ask I tried to eat outside
because the weather is so beautiful
there I always say why don't why do we
live in New York and not in Florida they
have great shows and schools and
restaurants but alas there's something
special about New York a big shout out
to Orlando so after I was in Miami I
drove to Al and oh because I did a
chopped competition there and I a that
kosher grill there it is fabulous
nutty they're two brothers nutty and
Hernan Azul I own it and it is fabulous
you can check more out the hush caja and
the food and the menu and kosher grilled
calm great Israeli restaurant they used
to be the one in the food truck I'm sure
they've interviewed them before on table
for two right at the beginning CK I
didn't even know if you're I don't know
if you're my engineer at that point I
mean we're nearly up to 200 shows so
yeah so when you're going down now for
winter break the food there is fabulous
it's fresh and and they're only 15
minutes from the park and they'll
deliver to the hotels as well so that's
really great okay so um one more
important thing I'm going to Chicago in
a couple of weeks and I'm B gonna be
meeting up with Miriam Schreiber and
she's gonna be taking me around to
several kosher restaurants in Chicago
and I'm gonna be doing it again a kosher
calm food crawl of Chicago I'm so you
can follow me and Miriam
Miriam's legacy tours does that sound
familiar to you yes it does Miriam is
the one that took me to Asia this summer
and she's going to Panama so she's gonna
join me in about two weeks on the radio
show and then she the next day I'm gonna
go meet her in check
I go for a Chicago food crop but if
anyone is interested in the Panama trip
that she's got it's coming up I'm
drawing a blank and what's it called
president's weekends so let me know and
we can get you some info and you can
follow Miriam's legacy tour on instar
and she's a lot of fun you're gonna see
you're gonna watch us both on crochet
like um we're gonna have a ball and I
hope you'll join us okay so on with a
show okay I have in the studio two
talented gentlemen it's been a boy show
today so I have I have sitting right
next to me have Ruffy Bernstein who's
this actually can I give glorious a
chair that he is the son-in-law of
Gloria Coburn who what was that okay oh
okay
kosha by Gloria on Instagram and and fat
Facebook and her web site and she does
videos and recipes she's brilliant she's
been right there in that seat
so Ruffy is going to be joining us and
as well as Billy Schwenke who had what
yeah that's my issue a key and he is the
owner of candy and cattles that's right
there were gonna be flash expiry soon
let's do it
I'm excited I'm excited okay hi Ruffy
good morning we've wanted to do this for
a while we got it together yes finally
okay Rafi Rafi has recently been
featured in two big events code Jewish
kosher events the first one was kosher
feast where he did the engraving and the
gifts for our kosher feast it up to our
honorees and also the course of the
social media event during the day and
the kosher media venture in the day I'm
Melinda straddle down at Jewish food
media events so he made all the gifts
that we gave out to to the presenters
during the day and then at them at the
conference and then at night at kosher
fees and then I put him in touch with
Jew in the city Allyson cool yeah and
she she she featured me on there on her
Hanukkah
gift guys you've got and and also they
go up your prizes your um the the
honorees that she honored had at the
your chopped event at her dinner yeah
right
so they got they got I made custom
handles on blades and engraved the
blades or that were beautiful you should
go check out his Instagram page person
generic our impressions you take a go
follow him as well okay so besides you
know I really want have roughly on the
show because he's so talented there are
so many great ideas and he does make
knives I'm thought she didn't bring the
knife into this shooter but that's okay
because you can see it on Instagram and
you can go check out this way clearly
it's in my feed you know so it was one
of the with Raffi try to tie in like
food and Judaica because you know I
think it all ties in together very
nicely
ah challah goes on a challah board and
out you know a wide goes in kiddush cups
and then as our kitchens all have
mezuzahs on them that's right so let's
talk about some of your beautiful
products you have right here in this
studio you can see on our Instagram page
and also on our YouTube channel so I
guess I'll start closest to you this is
my designer mezuzah comm line they are
acrylic and there are three layers and
you choose your own that's why you get
to design your own and at design and
this is calm weird you get to design
your own missiles yeah I love that so
you choose your own three layers and I
assemble it and send you send it to you
or drop it off if you in the city oh
that's great I need like little kitchen
pieces on this like little food things I
need to figure that one out yeah maybe
custom engrave and and a special for
table for two I'm gonna offer a 10%
discount on the website use coupon code
table for two you wanna do table for two
or Naomi Naomi let's keep it simple
i I've been doing that lately cuz table
for two got complicated
for this because 42 right okay let's do
Naomi the code is in a OMI and that will
give you 10% off on designer mezuzah
calm I love these these are really cool
and then you put the clef in there and
if you want bigger ones you can get
bigger ones are they the same size you
could I could do custom runs for over
over 10 pieces I can do custom custom
orders for bigger mrs. oats
I love cases and yeah and but for now
these are I have to keep it simple
because there's so many options I think
they're over 2000 option color
coordination color options something for
everyone there's glitter there's swirly
colors there's a nice tortoiseshell if
you want to keep it a little less less
playful but still classic yeah classy
exactly I would actually tell you get
the glitter because I'm a bigger person
and then I have one mezuzah from
different species what species this is
zebra wood Purple Heart and other other
exotic species of wood we need one for
you it's very nice beautiful I think
need to do some cattle cattle love
mezuzah that would be very cool my
colors in there yeah I love you're
moving on to Kentucky art since it's the
last day of Hanukkah yeah we are
recording this on the last I've gone
okay what's gonna bring us doughnuts
from from Penn Station and I'm like I
cannot eat another doughnut
I'm gonna be a doughnut if I eat one
more last night that we need a detox
from oils of good notes
I know every vote all of it it's just
enough right right well we've got the
next mix that coming up is Toby Shabbat
that's which is you know we still have a
little bit of time on that but we get to
nothing fruit
yeah which will cleanse us okay moving
on to kernel kiyotaka this one is
actually a
we could do a shout-out to Hertzog wine
this is from a hertog wine barrel oh my
God look at this okay we need a right
over fist that color on the top is the
actual color of the wine this is wine
stained wine stain right and if I may I
know you won't mind this one it's also a
shout-out to re white from the wandering
Q who helped me get that piece make it
asked you are he's a great friend of the
studio and of mine wait wait he's a
great guy he's great guy and he got to
get one of your pieces which is great
because he was there as the honorary
White was an honor een he received a
caning born yeah from one of my cutting
boards okay wait so how did you get this
how did you get it maybe we shouldn't
know well Ari uses them this this really
hurt me when he he saw I have them as
result made out of Jack Daniel barrels
oh that's cool and when he saw that he
said oh well you know I burn Hertzog
barrels to smoke my meat Oh God and I
almost started to cry and he goes oh
yeah well come by and I'll give you give
you some so I surprised him that his at
his kitchen and got the full tour and he
was great and he's he's a good friend
he's a great guy really liked him and he
ended me a couple of pieces and I made
him because he saw mrs. own in these so
I said well Hanukkah is coming I have to
make tunnel cured or menorahs but I'm
going to I made him a mezuzah as well
and he has a message that made out of
the same not been plank right now
against the neck I'm seagull Network
backdrop okay I love that
okay that is gorgeous well I know some
Herzog's that would probably actually
really like this as well yeah it's it's
cool to uh to the the thing is that
using a kosher wine barrel was the key
here that was very simply tied it in
food and Judaica absolutely yeah I'm
just trying to see if it smells like no
wine
it smells like vomit first of all when I
got it it smelled like barbecue and
smoke like re smells like
right privately which is a great smell
even though I haven't eaten meat in two
and a half years you your wife I'm up
I'm a pescetarian Jessica's been a
vegetarian for 22 years ago wait can we
just
what's a pescetarian pescetarian is fish
ate fish and eggs and milton dairy okay
but she's a vegan no she's just
vegetarian she eats and dairy no meat no
fish nothing she once told me nothing
that was ever a mummy nothing that ever
had a mommy or her face right face I've
heard but she's yeah she's uh I love
that she's a true bleeding-heart that's
more ecological and humanitarian your
mother you know makes the best you know
what it was really a hard decision to do
and Gloria actually took an offense to
it and I had to explain to her that it's
not her cooking it's actually in spite
of her amazing cooking it was a personal
decision that I had to do but her
daughter's being one for a very long
time Jessica's been vegetarian for 22
years yeah since the year I started
dating her oh it wasn't my fault it was
right before actually I took her to fish
restaurant hoping to keep her at least
eating fish and Benny the game in
Jerusalem which was one of the best fish
restaurants and truism is it still
around I don't believe so but my
grandfather took me there as a kid and
taught me how to debone a whole fish and
I took her there as on a date and hoping
to keep her in eating fish at least so I
have something to eat with her and share
over food and and then shortly I believe
that was her last fish but she salads
and she's healthy super healthy nuts and
and she makes sure we have enough
protein and the kids they eat me my son
who's 11 is a self-proclaimed sometimes
vegetarian aha sometimes vegetarian and
my daughter my daughter is like I used
to be 3 years ago an omnivore and which
means he's everything everything okay
there you go I'm definitely not but I
always respect the whole vegan movement
whenever I meet someone who's the vegan
I'm fascinated I asked some Christians
why what do you
even like how do you stay healthy and
educate your proteins if they're woman
piece of childbearing years like how do
you manage through pregnancies and all
that like I'm actually fascinated by why
is Jessica went through two pregnancies
from a food-wise completely healthy
happy you know the doctor her doctor
said to her we'll get through this and
that he got vegans through pregnancies
and he got her through
Miriam Wallach is our general manager
right here in the studio and she's also
vegetarian re White's wife is that's
right she is which is I met someone else
recently whose wife is a vegetarian also
a big foodie act for the life of me I'm
blanking out but also like vegetarian so
like no okay I know remember so it's
it's it's um you know it's definitely an
interesting choice coming right as a
foodie that I don't know if I could you
know I've never given up carbs yet you
know like some people give up cars I
have a nurse I have never given up carbs
but you know we limit everything in its
I guess I think everything in moderation
that makes you sick I need it
bottom line right absolutely okay so
what else have we got on the table apple
conocchia which has amazing texture okay
that's beautiful
if you are watching on our YouTube
channel it's beautiful that's really
beautiful apple trees apple wood again
not know actually that wood did not sell
smells sweet or like apples when I was
working on it usually fruit tree wood
has a sweeter Smith scent to it like
cherry wood does this the apple tree
tree did not I was actually very
surprised what I was saying by the way
about the Hertzog wine barrel piece yeah
was that it smelled like smoking and not
smoking smoking meat and barbecue but
then when I drilled into it and started
sending it to clean it up
it smelled like red wine an amazing
smell almost as good as a sketch about
this I need some gifts for some friends
okay if only J books Pam or Adam
Neustadter was here or or Gabriel Geller
there
would really really really appreciate
this that is really cool okay moving on
and I want to show everyone a picture if
you can pull up on your Instagram about
the knives because I think it's really
cool if you want a unique gift for a
foodie give them a custom made knife
with their name on it I'm just gonna
show it to everyone
oh this is a Japanese blade can we see
that's okay I by the blanks and what a
blanks blade the blade with the it's
it's a full length with the handle and
handle and I attached the scales which
is the wooden okay we didn't handle
handle I'm just I'm just gonna go
through your page I want to show them
the one that you may feed you in the
city or for our events do you do we have
a picture of that okay you have to talk
into the microphone this is the one from
jus in the city kosha chopped all-stars
winner so that's what our winner got
with her logo on it like I want it see
and and and it has the jus in the city
logo with a hat cuz you know that was
that's actually my part of it where this
event so and then we're able so you can
get someone Mother's Day Hanukah I mean
even though it's her last day right now
but it's a great gift great anniversary
gifts you know bridal showers and they
go great with challah boards and cutting
boards so these are your these are your
custom-made custom wood boards that I
again exotic woods some local woods I
mean again Purple Heart Purple Heart
there's curly maple in here there's
walnut and cherry this is one of the
more intricate ones why am I talking
about Halle boards because we make color
every week and we want our beautiful
color to go on a beautiful board it's
all about presentation we talked a lot
about I'll show next week I'm actually
gonna have from Muncie one table tops
coming in to talk about how to present
your food so okay
and last but not least this is a little
token and for you to open for me yes for
a second can you imagine well I made
Naomi speechless make just on the radio
it's a small token beautiful and it's
nice because it's small sometimes you
just need it like foot cutting up an
onion or just a tomato or a small
Israeli salad grate cheese board or
display both talking about displays oh
you could do like your little dips you
could put four glass bowls on this and
make your dips for sure but yeah some
cut-up vegetables in a crudite or cheese
sushi you know that's one of the reasons
I still eat fish beef jerky thank you
thank you thank you okay presents for
everyone alright
Happy Hanukkah thank you thank you thank
you I got a great actually got a great
Hanukkah present for my husband I got a
wonder week which is a new kind of
sheitel that I can wear up in a ponytail
so I'm just gonna give that a shout out
we bought it um it wasn't a sponsored
gift it wasn't one of these things we
bought it and I love it
and I'm obsessed with it and if you want
to find it by your own wonder week W u
nder like not wonder as like in the
movie I guess um but wonder week you can
just find them on Instagram and send
them a message cuz I'm really obsessed
with it and I can say I carry my hair
for 25 years even though I know it's not
food but we're talking about I'm
obsessed with my Shadle you know why I'm
gonna tie it in because you could cook
in it and tie it up and wear a baseball
cap with it and get your hair off your
face while you cook see everything ties
in everything is all about food all the
food all the time
there you go okay my next guest who I'm
so excited to have on ruffies gonna stay
we're gonna schmooze maybe you guys want
to switch seats sure you guys switch
seats tired
but you maybe we'll make a little
platter here on my board cuz it gonna be
flashing I'm gonna this is my board so
maybe we'll plate some on put someone
here hey how's it going wow it's funny
we've had your product on the show
before but not you
yes this was I think about two years ago
you had Joe Danzinger from kosher palate
sure I actually see him every day we go
to the same shul in Brooklyn okay I've
been on I've been on his website for
about two years so he's doing really
good and only I only have good things to
say about yeah he's a lovely guy we had
a great great time with him on the show
I think it's time Joe we're gonna have
you back I want to know what's going on
you in the kosher valet world for
Hanukkah - we'll get jelly doughnuts
I've got a note from Brooklyn from him
oh really I don't know where they ended
up from but we got tired of the ones
from the city that were less good you
have Krispy Kreme but their milk oh yeah
we need it for Friday night for me meal
yeah even though some of your vegetarian
you still needed there well for me table
you still have power absolutely
absolutely no I love Krispy Kreme Jenna
and then I could go have coffee with
milk after the meal yeah yeah yeah
absolutely yeah lucky that's the
advantage right because right now we're
gonna be flashy content in something in
them Oh nine something in the morning
ready okay so yes let's just welcome you
all how did you get started it's it's
been always been your passion um not
necessarily but food has I you know I
grew up cooking in my parents kitchen
wait where did you go out in Brooklyn
New York and in Midwood Flatbush area so
I've always been cooking just doing my
own things been you know very attracted
to food and watching the Food Network
and you know people making food and
always just paying attention to
different dishes and and different
things different restaurants and so you
know it's funny how
I started I was actually um I was
actually working for my father-in-law
right after I got married and this sort
of was like okay my hobby my
mother-in-law suggested hey you should
try making beef jerky meanwhile rewind
back a little bit on my you know very
before my wedding they got me a gift
they got me a deli slicer cuz I
requested he said yeah we're gonna get
you some stuff you know people get gifts
before their wedding so I just thought I
was being cute to say yeah I got me a
deli slicer I could like slice my meat
at home and whatever so I figured okay
she said make beef jerky stew suggested
it so I said I have a deli slicer I just
need a dehydrator sure enough she has
like all the kitchen guys gadgets in the
world your mother veena yeah yeah it's
amazing so she had a dehydrator
we took it this was in 2015 right before
Rosh Hashanah I got it from her house I
made a couple batches of my sesame
teriyaki
and actually at the same time which ties
into the name of the company candy and
cattle my wife was making all these part
of desserts and he's very intricate and
interesting candies oh yeah well it's
been a while since he's made them we've
took off with the beef jerky not so much
the candy part but what we did for Rosh
Hashanah gift we we bought a beautiful
lucite tray with compartments and half
of it I put sesame teriyaki jerky very
full and then we put like two of her
desserts on the other side it looked
really nice I love that and the whole
family devoured it in like a couple
seconds and that's when I knew I was
onto something okay so from that point
until you got this beautiful packaging
down you in the stores how long was that
you know actually it took some time I
would say you know maybe three and a
half four months a lot of developing
involved actually working with the bag
company packaging company and getting
set up with you know the manufacturer it
took some time in the house
has like one of the main things so a lot
of lead time needs to be and you know we
I designed it was actually a you know
kind of like a group effort but my wife
came up with the idea of so she was
making candies I was making beef jerky
so buddy said we had to come up with a
name that suits both of those categories
why I asked I said Freda I said you have
to make me an Instagram I don't know
anything about Instagram and she kind of
knows you know her siblings are like big
Instagram icons so like she has very
very fit with who were her siblings her
sister rich girl on a budget she has a
blog about different fashion items and
okay kind of popular and her brother
even like also very popular he does
memes sunny-side-up the name of my show
on kosher comic look it up it's it's
pretty big anyway so I'm still far away
from even you know but point is I said
free tie said you have to make me an
Instagram I don't know anything about it
she said look let's let's do one
Instagram I'm gonna do an Instagram we
have to just satisfy both categories I
said alright so I'll have to come up
with a name that really covers both and
that's hence candy and cattle so we came
up with the idea of a cow and a candy
swirl you know and I designed it I have
a background in art and design a graphic
designer
you have creativity in the family in the
family trace the graphic designer I
think your logo is very cool thank you
so much actually my family I used to be
a painter an artist an artist yeah I was
designing needlepoint canvases my my
mother and brother owned a company SM
stitches it's a very big very popular in
the sephardic Brooklyn community let
alone the whole Jewish community you
know points are amazing
I bought a canvas
40th birthday and he got it for his 48th
birthday
Wow I did three quarters of it with a
broken arm I broke my arm very badly and
had surgery in the country when I was
working in a camp I in summer of a five
and everyone was needle pointing and I
my arm in a car my left arm so I could
still do it with my right arm so I
started it and it's three quarters of it
in three months only and then I got a
headache once coz the background was
navy blue it's such like a migraine and
I didn't touch it again for seven and a
half years Oh
my best friend who's an amazing amazing
needlepoint Oh crazy stitches Alison
gross shout-out to you and she took it
and she finished it for me and had it
made into a bag but beautiful beautiful
but well it could be one of them NATO
points that it's possible they've been
in business for I think 13 years now
their whole shtick is custom design
hand-painted needle points everything is
like from scratch it's you know it's its
own project so it's very unique so I'm
not sure yeah and they make they don't
only make Judaica stuff I mean they do
the you know conventional collar covers
and tefillin bags but they also make
watches and handbags well from
needlepoint offer and but right before I
was leaving I was making needlepoint
neckties actually designed a few of
those I have in my closet I love it it's
great we've got guys in the food
industry are also super talented in the
art world
well Sebastian really some of the drive
and creativity that led me to first of
all there's on my package 20 at the
interest when I started designing my
package I didn't have any Photoshop and
they know how to put it together so some
of the people in my office at the time
they helped me put it together but just
more on the creative ends like that's
really what inspires me like I run my
Instagram now I took it over a long time
ago but a lot of my posts are very from
left field or ordinary I really liked
and I think that's what you know that's
just an expression of like Who I am and
you know my creative touch on things no
it's great I you've got to go follow
them he has great stuff on his page
candy and cattle because how many photos
can I take of beef jerky beef jerky you
need content you always need to keep
people interested really playful I love
how you find cow statues everywhere
thank you it's more than just that but
yeah we interested actually we did a
post for Hanukkah our first contest so I
made a ha Nokia out of little cows and
my logos and I did a whole made a whole
min or out of it and it's very cool
check it out it's just you know I have
fun with it it's great it's good you
know when you and you're passionate
about something you can tell like I feel
the excitement in the room because you
guys are in your own businesses you're
not here representing another company
all the guys that represent other
companies that come here are great and
they love their passion about who they
work for but it's actually you like I
love being my business and I'm excited
about food and I love being Aussie
gourmet and traveling and eating and you
guys also like I can feel your
excitement in what's what you're showing
us today amazing there's always an
excitement that when you speak about
your own product that there's a passion
there that when someone else is
representing you you just doesn't exist
you know no matter how excited they are
about your product you can't they can't
transpose your excitement about your own
product that you know I totally agree
with that when it comes to let's say you
know you know I do a lot of my own sales
for companies you know a lot of food
companies they do just distributor and
bought good bye thank you whatever but
no one's gonna be a better salesman than
you because you have the passion you
have the full knowledge and
understanding of what your 100% I'm just
taking your photo of this gorgeous
packaging and okay alright so we're
gonna do a giveaway
oh yeah it's a giveaway okay this is the
give it and then we're gonna start the
case like enough with the talking okay
what are you giving away
we're talking about your giveaway let's
do I mean we could do like two giveaways
we'll do like a set of four one of each
flavor one pack of each flavor of jerky
and you know we'll just do that a couple
times get the brand out there too you
want to do let's do three people keep it
exciting give away some okay such a
smile on his face you cannot imagine
yeah we'll give away some some cattle
stickers as well the truth I made a run
of t-shirts but I'm all out of those
right now have to make some okay yeah
okay
I love ya I'll make you I'll make you a
t-shirt I want to teach it I got it okay
okay good all right so we're gonna give
away three packages no three sets forth
I'm gonna be peeking three winners all
you have to do is email me Naomi at
Nasim Segal calm that's only if you
don't have Instagram but you also if you
have Instagram because it's not all of
our listeners on social media right we
want you to follow candy and cattle
candy and cattle and the knock'em siegel
network course cuz you're all follow me
already so much of course
so candy and cattle and knock on a
single network he I can't have to catch
him there you got to follow that such a
great photo okay so you're gonna have to
follow us both now I'm sick your network
and candy and cattle and or if you don't
have social media which I am sensitive
to because some people know everyone has
it you can just email me for that I'm
and let me know that you don't have
Instagram and that you want to be in it
and you can win one of these one of
three
prizes right and which will be three
sets of four three sets of four and
you'll also get a couple of cows tickets
for the everybody in the five towns
heads like which how my kids got how was
that how magnet you got my daughter
works in tasks so we have a camp ask
magnet and what if it camp you go to
yeah why you has one I don't know okay
it will make cow one no I have right now
so far I have t-shirts the stickers and
tote bags the tote bags are great that's
cute alright okay so which you want to
open them all at once you want to start
let's party then into sweet spicy to
sweet okay I don't want to end all right
it's not so much water all right so
we'll start with the honey
okay so there's also a story behind each
flavor we could talk about that yeah
okay lab stories here on the knock on
Siegel Network alright so we're gonna
start with sunny sriracha stories and
food okay it smells like sriracha strong
straight to the back of the throat okay
there you go see okay
let's hear the story oh so actually it's
not you know I mean it's not the biggest
story but basically the inspiration for
some of my flavors with is his recipes
that I'm familiar with and this recipe
particularly hold on but this one my wad
of chewing it's funny I don't really get
high on my own supply much you know I
just very rarely do I try my own jerky
try to keep it just for you know their
business but you can't your profits
right no I do every every when you do
the recipe testing of course every
production run whenever I get a new
batch I have to try it to see hey how's
how's it going you know did it go well
and yet for the most part where do you
is it was the kitchen that you make
these or the plant so I'm currently
using two one is their oath their star K
facilities where under the hushka have
star K and
star s I don't know if you heard of star
s please it's a branch of star K which
is maybe it's probably first far it says
stands for spy redeemed but why is
because you know we're keen to keeping
beit yosef so I'm using a beit yosef
meet so they wanted to emphasize star s
also so have that in my package as well
I saw that on your website I didn't know
what it was you know I figured because I
knew yes party that actually our meet I
don't know if you're familiar we use
actually s BD me it's just a very high
tier hashgacha within like the meet you
know process so just for all their
viewers to know that it's it's it's a
good good to know yes it's USDA
inspected and that's the only way we
could really sell to supermarkets
because everything has to be regulated
they have inspectors they have FDA thank
you I don't think I would like this so
much right okay so the story on this
basically my wife makes these chicken
wings that I love and the sauce is honey
sriracha she mixes it up together and
it's addictive so I said we have to
translate it we have to try this on
jerky and after a few trials we finally
got it and that's the short story on
this I love that that's well done yeah
right
I like apricot combi okay it's great
because and I haven't ingredients the
back Duck Sauce apricot preserves
sriracha honey orange juice mince garlic
garlic powder onion powder paprika flexo
black pepper salt and celery powder you
know what's really cool you don't have
things in here that you can't pronounce
yeah I thought it would have like
monosodium no I use real ingredients so
that's very important to me
what's great you know I'm a big travel I
love traveling great is these travel
there light so well it's me and a lot of
times when you're traveling to different
countries you can't
meet a lot of men they go to China for
business it's hard to find something you
know meat to eat you know it's perfect
snack for the plane or for when you're
stranded and you need something right
it's funny some of my best customers are
you know gym goers you know I have not
so many gyms that I sell to but two in
Brooklyn and it's after their workout
you may pick up something on the way out
and it's protein it's nutritious exactly
so the story on this apricot corned beef
is I grew up it's Ashkenazi right corned
beef part but my mother makes one of her
Shabbat dishes is she calls it chicken
apricot and it's very savory ingredients
apricots a duck sauce and all some of
the lot of the ingredients you'll see on
the back of this package and it was
always my favorite one of my favorite
dishes growing up so I make it also at
home myself and I said this has to be a
jerky flavor so I mix it with the corned
beef I think I thought it would you know
very cool then well take the chicken
recipes and for the beef I mean it's a
very different outcome but a lot of
times it works really well okay so now
we're gonna go to cranberry so that's
gonna have like a little top yes the
cranberry pastrami is gonna be tart and
you'll see has a some pastrami seasoning
on there yeah you need an expert and
you'd last two days after you've opened
it you know when I was traveling on
Miriam Schreiber's that tour we were
going from Chiang Mai Thailand sorry not
Chiang Mai we're going from Vietnam to
Shanghai which means you had to change
planes in Bangkok I'm not sounding like
a show-off but I was there I was working
on the tour we had an incredible time
is so amazing and she plans everything
down to a tee so we she we bring I help
to organize some snacks in a culinary
bag so some of the people that I know um
you know donated stuff to go into the
culinary bag and one of them was beef
beef jerky different company poker and
and we were we were starving like the
plane was old the light and everybody
just whips out beef jerky we had I think
what's grandpa hole so it was shout out
to them for giving it to us okay another
good quality we have lots of good
quality ingredients great and every
people like it really staves off the
hunger when you eat beef jerky yeah
absolutely
okay
cranberry pastrami so the the idea on
that one is I just we go just one the
best yeah nice hahahaha ZK just said
he'll be the judge of that uh sweet
pastrami it's not like spicy pastrami
yeah sweet there's a sweet element to it
it's sweet what do you think it's just a
top yeah nice there's good one guys I
hope that you're all emailing me now
interesting there are other applications
than just eating it stompy Freki I had
somebody reach out to me about a week
and a half ago Rachelle Lee from mini
licious Donuts on Instagram anyway so
she wanted to make a batch of donuts
with my jerky yes it's on my instant
it's on my page I saw that any we have a
beautiful photo and it's just a very
different application she made these
maple glazed bourbon donuts with
cranberry pastrami jerky bits on top i I
still didn't try it because her family
ate it all over Shabbat right I sent the
second batch I need to have it I
actually made something with them
it wasn't beef jerk you know two years
ago I did like a maple-glazed bacon
on top of a pastrami stuffed donor Wow
it was crazy well I didn't do it this
year Evan
okay let's rip up in that last package
the last pack is sesame teriyaki we're
not gonna leave any for now right we're
gonna leave with the story
yeah well not coming yoni empty bags
it's so good this is lunch CK brunch
not worrying me I already had my coffee
in the morning song has they have one
coffee in the morning with milk okay so
this is sesame teriyaki this one I've
had plenty of times
um when I've seen you around and this
was actually also that you in the city
event yes not the same event we were at
the gala event there but I mean I
dropped off the knives and oh okay I was
there I ate yeah so you you were at my
booth you're at my um I ran my truck
event New York oh very cool so we were
at like the VIP pre-party event and we
had gorgeous cutting boards not not yet
next time but we had some exotic
cocobolo we put the we put a nice of
displays of the jerky like in little you
know sections with toothpicks and we got
a lot of good fanfare from that from
that I'm having Shabbos Deena thank you
it's like I feel like I'm meeting Friday
night roast so do you have you flavors
on the horizon it is a good question
yeah I am working on two flavors right
now okay which are no I'm going here
maple every breath everybody that's
definitely an idea that I have but not
for right now and I definitely want to
see that maybe in
I don't know if I should say it was just
like a crazy idea maybe like a lamb
jerky but it's not that's not coming
just yeah I have two flavors of beef
jerky coming out which are tamarind if
familiar with that flavor in my
Sephardic cultural we tie it making its
high food it's got tamarins right so so
we make like hors d'oeuvres which is we
call it Mazza appetizers appetizers we
have something called la la by Jean Jean
oh really
yeah I used cauliflower crusts amazing
right yeah you have to get my purse on
you know right now it's only 100
something days till Pesach I'm just
saying that's so far away it's doubled
on Amazon in a few in the last week the
book was on sale last week for 16 and
now it's um almost 30 Wow
100 days till Pesach from today 100 days
till pacer
buy my book right now I'll have to get
it anyway so on the topic of piss off oh
we have we have we're doing a kosher for
Passover jerky again this year we did it
last year was very successful but
quickly back on the flavor so the
tamarind jerky is based on my luck my
Jean recipe that I make all the time for
Shabbat and it's gonna be amazing
the second flavor is is going to be
Buffalo so you're familiar with buffalo
wings poppers that type of element those
types of Tony exactly but trying to get
a specific flavor in mind it's gonna be
great I can't believe one hour just flew
by oh my god guys this was a great show
oh my god we have a lot of fun things
there's a lot of blood Ravi Bernstein
Tom Burnett adds belief Schwenke
yahushua key that comes legal networks
okay Billy Schwenke from candy and
cattle this has been an amazing show
