Now that live questions with Rabbi W is
in conjunction with the status island.
We're getting voice notes also. So I
can't play the voice note. I'm going to
try to give over somebody sent in a
question with a voice note. I'm going to
try to give over their question as best
as I can. And it's always preferable to
just stick to text like that. We could
read it. We could read it and we know
that we're reading exactly what you
wrote. The question is how do I know
what I'm here to accomplish
just I'm just here to learn and Davin.
I know I was taught in yeshiva that
whatever I struggle with that's my
personal struggle. That's my personal
tick form.
But what about my accomplishment? That's
the struggle. That's what I have to keep
away from. But what what about
accomplishing? So he said he had a
conversation with somebody recently
about winning the lottery. What if he
wins the lottery? So he said, "If I win
the lottery, I'm going to go a half a
day to coyle." He said, "I can't do a
full day in coil. I know myself. A full
day is not for me, but I don't have to
work for Kosa. A half a day I'm going to
sit and learn."
So his friend said that's easy for you
to say but to you know who said that
half a day is for you maybe you're here
to accomplish something else maybe to
isn't your thing so he asked
who am I what am I what am I here for if
if it's not if if I don't have to work
to bring in panasa what am I here for
that's the question now the answer is
going to sound a little bit simple but
for the answer we have to come back to
reality
And the fantasy about winning the
lottery is beautiful. It's very nice.
But the reality is that you're working.
And the reality is that Hashem runs the
world. And if you're working, Hashem is
the one who gave you the job, who put
you in that position. So what you do,
that's what you need to accomplish.
We're not talking about a 15year-old
who's looking at life and saying, "Where
am I going in life? What am I going to
do in life? What am I going to
accomplish in life? That's a different
question. But we're talking about
somebody who has a life. He has a job.
He has a business. He's out in the
world. He's accomplishing things. He has
a family. So the place where you are,
that's exactly where you need to be
because Hashem runs the world. And he
didn't make you win the lottery. He made
you go into work every day because the
work that you're doing every day, that's
what's necessary. That's what's needed
from you.
Now at the same time there's a zy says
there's no good if a person has a
good rat to do something good he has
shifus he wants to accomplish something
good it doesn't go lost so if a person
takes 10 seconds and for these 10
seconds he says I wish I won the lottery
and I could go back to kyle those 10
seconds are never going to go lost the z
says
And there's a story that Rabbi Miller
used to tell Rabbi Viller used to tell
the story about Salante that salant he
originated the idea of kalin that people
should instead of going out to work
should sit and learn and they should get
a small stipent for sitting and learning
so that they should be able to learn
without worries. So he was working hard
to raise money for that and his talid
saw how he's talking to an older man
spent a lot of time talking to this
older man telling him about his idea for
a coyo his vision and convincing him why
it would be such a good thing. So after
he finished a conversation asked this is
a big oyure he's a big a he's going to
give a lot of money. So said, "No,
actually he's a popper. He doesn't have
a penny. He he doesn't have anything."
So they said, "So what do you why are
you wasting your time with him?" So said
to them,
So some people can pay for the and they
have the mitzvah of paying for the coil.
But some people they can't pay for it
but at least they want it. So if they
want it
they're not losing that desire to do
something good. They're not losing it.
So fantasy is not a good thing. If if
it's not good to start living in fancy
what happens if I'm going to win the
lottery and then I'm going to and I'm
going to do this and I'm going to do
that. You're just you're wasting your
time. But if you take your fantasy and
you say, you know what, I'm going to sit
and learn and I'm going to dive and I'm
going to be much calmer. I'm going to
have time to dive in and I'm going to
have time to learn. So you're
accomplishing. You're accomplishing
tremendously.
So I don't see why if your friend tells
you if I'm going to win the lottery, I'm
going to go learn and code. You
shouldn't be having such a conversation
with your friend. Talk about better
things. Don't talk about the fantasies.
But if you are already and he says, "I
want to learn a half a day." Say, "Look,
why don't you learn a whole day?" I
can't. You can't now. But imagine you're
going to make so much money. You're
going to be able to learn a whole day.
And think about we're going to learn
together. We're both going to win the
lottery. If it's fantasy, it's we're
both going to win the lottery. We're
both going to sit and learn together all
day. And you're accomplishing. It's
mitzvah. It's mitzvah just for a simple
fantasy. And to the point of whether oh
maybe even a half a day isn't for you
maybe only a half hour you should learn
there's a famous shak the shak writes in
that a person has to learn that are
relevant to daily life and he says
sometimes
they have to they have businesses and
they only have three or four hours a day
to learn so they have to learn gamorra
they don't have because they only have
three or four hours to learn so they
don't have the time to learn. So you see
this was a few hundred years ago.
Somebody was a simple balabos meant that
he only has 3 hours 4 hours to learn a
day. He doesn't have enough time in his
day to to learn fully to learn properly.
So we have to look at ourselves and take
a deep honest look at ourselves and say
why in our society is 3 four hours a day
considered crazy you know that a that's
impossible that's for sure not possible
maybe it is possible maybe it is
something that we could change that we
would be able to learn more even with a
job even without winning the lottery.
But um to answer your question what am I
here for? You're here. You You were put
in the place you are. And there's a lot
that you're accomplishing there. And the
place you are, the job you are, the
people you have to deal with, that's
where Hashem put you. And that's where
you're accomplishing. And very
important, if you do have good
fantasies, stick to those fantasies.
Don't let anybody tell you, "Oh, it's
not for you. It's not." Don't talk to
such people. You stick to um your real
life. And if you ever have fantasies, it
should be good fantasies that will
remain with you in Adam forever and
ever.
