shmita of course but it doesn't affect you that much because you only buy in this these stores where they take care of the problem for you but one thing I realized that you have to be so careful because I had some water it was very hot it was very hot I don't know if you read about that it was extremely hot this summer anyway I had water in the car and water stays a couple days in the hot Sun and in plastic you want to see long drink it anymore because you're afraid of leeches out the plastics you want to spill it out so normally so I got my car I want to spill now they see there's a tree over there right there's a tree on the side on the sidewalk why should I waste the water so I go over and I want to pour it to what is it raining but then I realized well I'm not sure you can do that because it's mita right that you can only water if you're doing it to the tree save the tree but they must have some they'll leave my water right then I'm counting on my water so I'm not trying to save the tree so I realized I've spilled in together so sometimes there are things that come up that don't really don't you don't even know you'll ever realize when your usual but some sometimes these issues of commute apply are affecting us more here in the diaspora so talk a little bit about the carrots problem that's still that's still coming up right it's not it's just seriously a lot of Israel is a very big exporter of fruits and vegetables this year particular is a lot of carrots that are being exported from Israel and peppers to every other citrus fruits but in such truths have been hit the market here from Israel yet but they usually come around this time of year and these are all fruits and vegetables that have fish she is on them and consumers in America have to be aware of that that's the carrots with in particular I think we might have talked about this previously but it's still going i was doing my goals still going on it's looking you got you got you got many many many calls about it its effects restaurants it affects caterers it affects all kinds of companies that use fresh vegetables because a lot of the suppliers get in you know got a lot of the big national supplies are getting in these items from israel and they just ship it out because they don't know anything different and it's really something we have to monitor for from our end and consumers have to monitor from there and when they buy produce in the store to make sure they're not from israel the particular brand of carrots was called darrode farms but there's a food if you really do others just like we did I didn't know that but um so those are based on the hetero material which when I can go into now but we we don't rely on that and well there's a few some of them were missing a filipina sorry I really want some work out some are just straight push pious protostellar shipped out of Israel you know she'll like it in okay I'm properly okay so all right so but the carrots is particular issues because the carrots can last I don't think they're picking carrots anymore in Israel but the cat season is over but they put them in a cold storage and they can continue to to ship them so that's something people need to be aware of ongoing now after after this after rosh hashanah after a period of time the the vegetables will not be a problem anymore because they're it's picking from the front they're getting from them from the new crop well it still have a Troma summations issue which you know something people should have also any produce from israel generally as a trim surmises issue right so we were getting we were getting many calls about oranges and citrus fruits particularly people back in Casco right through did you get that a lot we got a lot of people costco seems to epsilon some contracted by israeli produce and people were wondering if it's like the carrots it wasn't like the carrots because the carrots were called swishing which were forbidden to be eaten but the the citrus fruits were really from the previous crop from the last from the previous year's crop 66-year crop so they needed to have the time the timing taken but but that the citrus fruit season i believe is over now at this point but when it starts up again right when sometime in the winter well this harvest that's coming in that's going to be this year it's not easy being is going to be a mentor so now really so shamita is-is-is top shinai and hey 5775 but because because of the way the shmita works with fruits that it follows the budding of it hinata so it takes us all the way into I five seconds vacations will extend far beyond just the seventh year right and and again even more so in America because in Israel if you're buying in the stories that are my stuff under officer you're now from Israel and people should be aware of that if you're shopping in stores that are on their certification or work with certification agencies for example of all four seven mile marker the passing so that's the golden question that we all want the answer to but basically what's going to have like a little bit terminal we just call them as they see it as we see it but basically what's been happening this year which is a little bit of another quirk in the calendar as they say another some quirky issues is that lettuce has grown in two different regions in the United States generally in the winter at school in Arizona in the summer it's growing in California and typically let's talk about Arizona for a minute because the issues started in the winter in Arizona when they're growing in Arizona Arizona typically is very cool and dry which are great conditions for producing lettuce and all vegetables with very low insect pressure because bugs don't thrive in those conditions insect pressure means Association physician infestation and industrial X was referred to as insect pressure right so so for all our experts Imperial you know what you're talking about but I'm not sure so so those aren't those are ideal conditions for very low levels of insect pressure however this year in Arizona they had a very warm and humid winter and that caused a tremendously high level of insect infestation and as such even iceberg lettuce which typically is much cleaner was having an issue now it's also important to understand why iceberg lettuce is different than lettuce so the main romaine lettuce romaine lettuce everybody knows has issues with bugs because romaine lettuce is very soft it's very green and tastes good we like it bugs like it no the heads are wide open so boys go right in and you know romaine lettuce is traditionally known as having very high levels of insect infestation what people don't know though is that iceberg lettuce also has there's some very unique challenges when it comes insect infestation as well even though when you buy the head it's totally closed and looks like a ball so everyone thinks how can bugs get in there but the truth is that iceberg lettuce when it grows initially it grows open just like romaine the first couple of weeks and then only then it closes up so if it had high levels of insect infestation when it was open the bugs got in there remaining there and they get stuck in there not only do they get stuck in there and only can they have children and build families inside the heads of lettuce but you can't spread the pesticides morbi puzzle heads are closed so if you get a problem early on in the iceberg and iceberg lettuce it's going to be a problem for the rest of that crop and that's really what started in Yuma and metaphor unit Calif know in Arizona and I was open as are you in Arizona region that's really what started then and it's in California where they have the drought now so it's only continued the high levels of insect pressure caused the bugs are looking for moisture working over us act you're hungry actually Calif Northern California Salinas Valley where most of the iceberg lettuce quote comes from actually sits on the largest underground river in the entire world so they don't really need much water for the vegetables to grow however the surrounding area is the surrounding mountains and regions in California are dry as a desert because of the drought so all the bugs that are there are looking for anything they can get their hands on to eat so the only thing around from wiles to eat is the is the lowest feelings and you live in Salinas guys I Salinas Valley High so they're all coming in and infesting the Salinas Valley Salinas is south of north south of San Jose about our house south of Samson right but it's considered rural in California so so because of the drought conditions so insect pressure insect infestation levels innocent miss Valley I'm an extremely high this year so we had the winter crop that had high levels infestation now we have the summer crop that is high levels infestation so so so let's say normally what percentage of the bags pet certified iceberg yeah almost all and now we're percentage is very little like ten percent it depends which company it depends you know companies that have better washing systems are going to be more successful I don't have a better washing systems and just rely on the lettuce coming in fairly clean enough or having a very difficult time one thing I will say is that what I've seen sometimes is you know some of these bags of us have stickers on them some other certification which is like I guess doing some double checking on it but I've seen those they like the red stickers orange stickers on bags that don't have a star cake right and then so we're saying it didn't pass and they're saying that it's okay well I could understand if it had a star care and then they want to do you know more inspections on it okay fine but if we really saying that it Pass and then for them to check some bags of it into some samples whatever they're doing to say it's okay that's you know we don't recommend it obviously it's without getting into all the details but basically you know we have mushy fuel plants or doing constant checking on all these batches of lettuce and if the starcade symbols on there that means to be certified right it's not on there aight me one or two things either we didn't check it and obviously won't certify that or we checked it and it failed right now most of the time on especially on ice particular an iceberg and other products it means we checked in and fail I see so it's really uh so so maybe we'll turn around by yontiff will be blood ready no not necessarily not necessarily depends
