and to my left is rubbish Sean Taylor thank you for coming to attend with pleasure this is our annual discussion of travel issues when a Jew travels it's like no other person in the world because so many issues Cassius and governing and Shabbos and all the things that go into it if you want to call in if you're this somehow the sound isn't perfect you can call it to one eight eight nine five one information we don't embarrass anybody but if a person calls us about another town we will give them one hour tell them what our opinion is write it we try right and it's also preferable than they should do a little research before they get to the town trip so that you don't wait until your kids are starving they forced into a situation where you buy just cookies from the local supermarket or you can do they closed on the road right just buy cookies and roll bar isms okay sure this weekend I give us a lot and also that I always and tell the people I always tell the people first of all I even have a choice in the matter alright you're calling asking a question it's very nice but if you end up going to some relatives house and this is the food they're gonna be serving so you're not really gonna be left with a choice so you know why should we get into the discussion about something we you're not gonna have a choice anyways that's the first step second step might tell people is very simple you know we don't necessarily know everything but every other hex right out there call the restaurant or facility and speak too much data and just see you get the feeling that knows what he's talking about well that's hard for a person who's not involved in conscious it's very simple a few very simple questions you can ask number one you can ask them are you whose Ashcroft are you little bit involved in the vegetable industry so I know you live on the plane I just want the time before you go into that so if you're in a small town though many times I've found at least that there are also you know gossip requirements or realities are different in restaurants many times you don't have an on site much gift in a lot of these out-of-town restaurants there isn't enough you might have a rope English yeah resources right in a small town small tonight the question was versus multiple of us usually that means okay then the ready unit bigger than 0 town but you're right in the smaller town you're not just looking how much gives media and I've been in smaller towns where the local upon them are very much on top of the caches as much as they could be and you know what for item on the shelf in the grocery store would it be okay to rely on that extra for a restaurant I think the answer is resounding no necessarily totally right we actually make that distinction a lot of is a totally different okay that's one one one question we have another one here do you have an updated with an underlying updated list of reliable has chairing for meals on international airlines was done many years ago and very difficult to keep updated because information changes shared change the caterers change and it's like a full-time job to it's not about your line you're stuck your any Airport can get from any different caterer and you say oh you're gonna end up you can get wrinkled meals if you fly one set if I repose you on TWA right first Latino but it doesn't exist anymore and and you know and that caterer maybe does it doesn't exist and they sold out and they also they got four article talks about what meals you get on Continental standards like you said from from New York City from JFK right no series or certain standards the Elgin are you gonna get or from Israel there are certain standards that you know you can deal with its when you're flying 99% of the questions are coming from your floor when you're flying and the cashews in Europe it sometimes depends which city will stop over sitting that year that way I mean that's the way it works right so in answer to that questions we do not have an updated contact us before your trip you might be able to run our information usually then isn't Lee based on you know if it's postman is minam so we can find that from flying to New Delhi because the winds changed and it's too much there's too much there's too much headwind getting all the way to Mumbai they can't fly that far anymore it's only fly to New Delhi so this is like for like these kinds of things may be different so you know they change much not much like day by day a lot of times I want to I want to recommend to look at for this question those are the guidelines that we would we would use yeah okay South Africa or Ireland how would you know South Africa a little bit more questionable there because the girls really look it up we have to discuss where do we get food when you're travelling in the airports so star Kenny has the the fresco meals of sandwiches fresco that's even where new airports Newark JFK LaGuardia right well sometimes involves Austin Washington really used to be once in a while and also there Penn Station both Newark and New York City of Penn Station so they're sealed sealed package meals you have to look for the starcade where do they sell them like in any other nice stores SIBO Express in Newark Airport SIBO CIB no Express which happens to be like one of these like interesting chair Joe's style right of course stores they sell a lot of very interesting items that a lot of that stuff is on them you finally nowadays in the airports in these places you find a lot of them have have like Chobani yogurt gotta stuff Holly's felt okay you're talking about things that you can get any right only your personally they're gonna have we're talking about a saffron this sound real things were real food than candy bars where the homeless em pretzel is that from Sabra with are available everywhere you get those also in Toronto they have under the COR around international departures a national archers have cor certified food otherwise you're stuck with you know the granola bars potato chips so we were discussing before that you you could you kid you can order now with ubereats use your app to order food if you're in the area that has a kosher restaurant that signed up with uber has anyone ever done that sure have you done that I've never done it myself in all restaurants used or - will be eats and what's the other one GrubHub all these things you can then they'll deliver it they can deliver to an airport they're not going to come through the security ticket with you but how does that work it's going after you to let you choose the restaurant you want you choose the menu which is uploaded to their app you want to go let's see mama Leia's Pizza well here are can eat them outside definitely do not sign in the airport is that before you got something right before you go to security need one more than your food and make sure I'm like like let's stop over this farm and walk onto the plane if they forgot your first class meal a complaint to the airline don't call robbed of a mile level so they we also want to mention that you should make sure that the meals come properly sealed it might even be be advisable to put it you can put into the app instructions to the restaurant like please make sure my meal comes well you should know that one of the rules of these apps is because they don't want to have they want to limit their liability and you get the wrong order they have to see all the food items for example if you order three hamburgers from Dougie's over here also does it they have to open the bag and look inside and see three hamburgers there so you say the GrubHub drivers uber driver or they have to verify that so traditionally the way our restaurants do is they'll sue the bag with two seals they can't do that when it's going to one of these orders so what they do instead is they double seal each individual item that's what they do but you have to make sure that it was done properly when you get your food you should be aware that the bag is not going to be able to be sealed but the food should be sealed with two seal you mean the other other bags not gonna be able I wonder how I wonder how many kosher restaurants around the country know to do that though that this what I'm saying you know are are places I can escape our place Israel that's what they have to do we somebody told me there's an idea that if you have let's say there's no overeats which is a special app or your restaurant doesn't do Cooper eats you can have a regular booboo driver when you put down the origin is you're a restaurant and the destination is you and you you call the uber driver while he's on the way and thinking he's going to pick up a person you tell me not picking up a person you're picking up my food at the restaurant and please bring it to me so instead of delivering a person he's delivering the food and apparently this bill does with some success I was in a car recently and I asked the driver if he would be willing to do that and he said no he wouldn't do it I said why not what's the difference if you're moving a person you're moving for you get the same amount of money so he said he's worried about liability he's not sure that like if someone needs to food and he gets sick is he covered or if if it gets to an accident he's not I'm part of the app it doesn't have like that mind like a liability insurance money insurance laws about it and he's not sure how it works and doesn't want take a chance that's what he told me but look I'm sure there obviously there are those that are doing it to question it do you want to take a chance every driver why not what's the difference then the bag will be sealed and ability sealed so yeah why would I worry about we also did one discuss of what if you go overseas like on your trips there Chum how do you take food with you take food with me are you probably speaking a vacuum packed meats and all the kinds of prepackaged shelf-stable meals that they saw in the supermarket or various companies varying degree of tastes I'll give you that again you're traveling so you don't have you know I don't take tune I don't go overseas like to the Far East Russia I've never had to been there I've been to you know you're a parasternal South America but different places like that well you went to Turkey right some of the two-degree them Turkey so I actually brought a bunch of racks with me and packaged deli how do they keep it fresh so first of all you can find frozen before I left so it stayed frozen up a little while and then when I got the hotel I put in the hotel freezer now I have a spoiled luxury that I will I travel in my bag with a roller coaster tape because this way I get to hotel muscari to what's going has the starcade symbol on it and that is used to seal up all the food that you get from GrubHub or door - is still the start if it's from a story restaurant I keep one of those in my bag you also rise to have it s good to have it paid for it but I got person to have it and I get to tell if they don't have a refrigerator in the room which many of them don't especially the you know depending on what kind of hotel is on it and on especially in foreign countries you have to put it in the all used it put it in refrigerator for you in the kitchen or something then you have to seal the food yourself especially if you're reusing the food throughout the trip so I keep a role coach daven this or I could reseal it and give it even without a person could do that without sign-in so if you want to hotel and they don't have a fridge in your room and you can put it downstairs all right take a shopping bag and put in an up for the visa closure tape around it and I want to have that even if you have a frigerator in your room right it need service you have service whatever and you should just be aware that that could also require you to seal your generally you know again that's no visits psi and freshmen as amidst usually the issue if you know you laughter deli and you come back and you see her Nellie there's not usually there but yes it's something people should be aware of I remember one time I took a yeah this is shortly after 9/11 and I and I was traveling I think to Europe and I had these elaborate meals and they were looking new at that time elaborate meals as the kind of calorie meals self eat meals and I'd never used one before and again this is Renison 9/11 so enough starving I was in the in some that everywhere but it was I was in terminal I said you know I have time not good for these meals smoking's I started eating up the meal and smoking I wouldn't try to recommend doing that I mean less unless you look I mean you could ask them I guess there's nothing illegal or not illegal but very hot it just looks funny okay he said she found out about the food from the webinar last time we spoke and she was stuck coming home from Europe with no further than I played and I specifically spoke chose the stopover in New York and found food otherwise we were able to help me get get food on her stopover it's always part of you know part of kosher snacks and every day at least in America isn't Canada every year potato sign it not solicit potato chips and granola bars I'm not saying they're healthy and you know they're not necessarily past Easter all they're not necessarily yashna but potato chips don't have any of those issues from you and one thing to point out I think also when you're traveling especially well anywhere if you see a brand that you're used to seeing in the United States you see that in Europe not necessarily the same product because many times there may be factories over there right with that brand name so it wouldn't necessarily be closure something to be asking what what do you do when you go into the US the official rules state you cannot take animal products or you can take them out the question is can you get them into the vitamin right you know that's not you don't do give away all the secrets now but generally if it's cooked meat they don't necessarily initial some countries officially wouldn't assuming they'd find it I had that once I went to Ecuador and they did take away my sandwiches really I've been to Ecuador probably half a dozen times since then and they never took we didn't take it away you know it's so it depends what I'm gonna cost me anything I'm saying maybe was ten bucks I'm saying you didn't cost me anything together through the net I didn't find it I don't find you you're right always have a back-up plan roblox aren't a good backup plan but all of ours are a good backup plan keep I always keep extra burner Lamar's in my bag just for this kind of situation this way I'm never no what it's okay if I get an apple from here let me have to start taking the tumor some oysters to her point oh when you're coming back from a country and coming into America you want to be very careful about what you're bringing in right into the food because right you might bring you might bring a sandwich on the plane and then I get it and then to have the dog sniff you here in the United States and you left the country they might love you a hard time a lot especially if you of global entry which Lowe's you know Global Entry is know what that is any minor simple silly infraction they you can risk losing it so it's not worth it well entry lets you skip the lines when you come back in on the passport lines and I what I've been doing I used to think that you know if I just had cookies or crackers or something that they didn't care and I they were only worried about vegetable you have to declare but recently the past couple times I've been declaring it doesn't want to I don't want to take your chance I love anything and it's not a big deal it just takes another couple minutes usually I'm declaring that I have everything okay Sean let's know about Rivest issues and we'll have to deal with that another time okay let's move on mm well if you borrow someone's credit card then you get into realistic questions we can't leave without touching on on hotels generally generally people rather when they travel they may end up in a hotel and we've discussed many a time about the the cards that they use to open your door though the keys a lot of people travel with Airbnb now we're gonna talk about that too yes and a garden are they going to hotel and use your your card to open up the door it's a problem for Shabbos so we've discussed our behind allows asking or gordy you said that before Shabbos and ask him my job is I'm meaning to get into my room here's my key believe that the desk and they will open if you I know that that's okay but one thing that we had actually on the starcade retreat that we had recently that they realized that some of the when you get into the room okay however youngji room you left it open they're going let you win however you there for Shabbos make sure that the the lock on the one you're on the inside is not a little charm if there's so many things the air conditioning and the we open the door to the porch does that turn off the air conditioning you know I like some things I totally might be electronic and we haven't we have all the things on our website in the article and take a look at it I have not gone the hotel so yeah so some people take a look at that we want to talk about the escalators using an escalator or behind them and holes that you can use and that's why there's constantly going you can use on Chaves it doesn't use more or less electricity and that's okay it's a little it's not as deep but sometimes they start when you where they go they go faster when you get on those you can use they were just you know constant it's okay we some people use Shabbos elevators I don't want to get into that discussion but you should know I had a call recently by the Shabbos elevator that's been used for a long time and they realize that now when they get in there's a click is a click when you get into the elevator that means a sweep you're doing something something is a switch is activate and you know you need someone to look at your Shabbos elevator and make sure that it's really you know certified it's good try it out before the end of them what try it out before you maybe they don't serve any shot of a Muslim kid not yet the next frontier yeah let's talk about the breakfast than the food at the hotels what can you use what can you read it to enter hotels how about you know they have waffle makers and wow that looks great that stuff so what are you so Department you go to Europe and then I think these at least I didn't like in Scandinavia pigs it's a clue the European the Mediterranean style breakfast it's really nice well and your even get efficient I tell my kids sometimes we're in the airport I say the only test and you saw him that I feel sometimes is when you're traveling you're in an airport otherwise you can get all my feel lacking of any coach right mood when you're in an airport and everybody is eating and you know you're opening up your crackers and you don't want anybody to see you go to a corner right you pull out your highness Trishna so with fried onions on top of it right then it comes over just where did you get that so what about the breakfast nd at the waffle waffle-maker let's go with the waffle maker why did we get this question right you see the tile is here well let's let's start off say don't assume in consume how about that there's known assume anything just because they're the waffle mix currently has an extra whatever rules they use currently is answer doesn't mean it's always like that they're plenty of non crusher mixes out there besides the holy stroller shoot you're not gonna polish I'll leave it if you're not there's plenty of nine questions that can end up with those waffle makers official maybe that's arguable our happy to show it to you and you can see it sometimes we have muffin packaged muffin he collects taro leaves a charisma regulating if you see the bagels also if their plans end let me out of the right in the freezer box so you can ask when I see the box cream cheese usually the personal containers they have and the peanut butter and jelly and butter and things like that they have personal cuz hands but you can see if they don't start I mean usually we usually won't start right right okay fresh fruit food have usually apples and that's something what's a country trust food now hotel that people we get this question a lot so you know just certainly what to rely on as far as you know even in they go to a supermarket or they caught the fruit in the supermarket I could just tell you having been in the back I'm not even time a kosher supermarket I'm talking about we've been in the back of non kosher supermarket either because they have a kosher department where we took over the store you know don't think that everything is necessarily so clean back there and they only have the knives used for vegetables and they don't switch knives all the time and I'll tell you know where they're cooking ham and bacon and all that stuff and they're also cutting up fruit don't think things are not going to touch I'm not saying there still isn't what's relying as bit little things like that but you should just be aware of them and see us personally I'm not so harmful eating the fresh cut up food and hotel I was the whole food is not an issue bananas they serve a Hyneman he felt that if it's a supermarket that has and the meat department so then you should cut off if it's cultural you should cut off the solution I know there's what you're you know wet fruits out Wegmans over here in Owings Mills they have an apartment in front of you a whole station would that's where they cut up different so that's different dirty but if it's done in the back don't assume everything is what you think it was Richard is setting hotels will switch the waffle bed if they running out even if they say they're using at your mind so it's a problem certainly this really has a brown sugar kosher without a head shirt yes it is Shalom was asking concerning this cereals can we use it even if they use the jogging containers he means they like they put it into the box a dispenser yeah so ask them to see the box I think that's okay in hotels yes sir anything else about hotels that we think yes okay the coffee the yogurt lady where the plain coffee plain plain coffee plain coffee or are you saying that the flavor coffee house next year right we're shy flavor or they have their little creamers but you should be careful yeah the only other thing I've been up is do Gertz and like packaged snacks they have their this is something a general comment about traveling many times you'll have companies that some of them yogurts some have a good after some don't so I'm just have a cake there's a reason for that generally speaking you give a product one has a reliable option or one does it looks like the same item it's not a mistake so I wear that well whole different story you see that no words for example sometimes a week or things like that generally all holes will expire I know it's like this benighted on Tuesday at midnight Tuesday of Midsummer's a minute all holes were inspired that's really fresh there's there are sale fairs and everything for that week celebrate so well no but it doesn't a second the system right away they refresh their fears enter United in Southwest every Tuesday night at midnight now United happens to be in Chicago at Central time and I think Southwest is indexes but also Central Time I think many airlines work that way so generally speaking I've been told and I've had success with it myself if you're looking for a ticket that's really expensive if you check let's say at 2:00 a.m. on early Wednesday morning after Tuesday night midnight has passed many times you'll find more availability and cheaper fares okay they're really desperate for that ticket you can stay up till 2:00 a.m. right or you can try first thing Wednesday morning also but usually they
