Why are so many young people searching for meaning? You search for something you don't have, right? Unfortunately, the way the people have been brought up recently is that their parents sort of provide them with their basic necessities. They give them some type of means to grow up and get a job, make some money. They don't give them a lot of meaning. They don't give them anything that's a big enough idea that makes life worth living. And we have this crisis of this vacuum of lack of meaning. Historically, religious institutions used to be much more powerful, and so people were exposed to transcendent ideas through their faith. Today, much of society is highly secularized, and so what's life about? It's about real practical stuff, just like being able to make a living so that you can live, so you can make a living in order to live, and that just doesn't really satisfy a human being. What I think is interesting though is that things like social media, which were ostensibly created having in mind that people were going to use it for socializing, a lot of people sort of hacked it, so to speak, to use it as a meaning machine. So many people are thirsty for meaning, and they're looking for it. And therefore, in this climate, if you can put out something that is truth and it does give people a reason to live, it's going to attract a following.
