The spiritual root of insecurity is idol worship. I know that sounds extreme, but think about it. When you allow somebody else's opinion of you to establish your worth, you are actually turning them into a little god. You are attributing to them uniquely god-like power. Why? Because in truth, the only one whose opinion of you actually establishes your worth is God's opinion. And the good news is God already believes that you are infinitely worthy. And the proof of that is that you exist. Nothing compelled God to create you. God chose to create you because he finds you worthy. When you let somebody else's opinion of you mar that, you are allowing that person to have a vote along with God. But this is not a democracy. This is a monarchy, and there's a king, and he determines everything, and the king, God, decided that you are worthy, and nobody else's opinion, nobody else's opinion matters. Now, does that mean that you should behave like a jerk and antagonize people and provoke them because you don't care what they think? No, to the contrary, it means you should be kind to other people, but not cuz you need them to like you. Be kind to them because that's what your father, the king, has told you to do, because it's the right thing to do, not because you need to curry favor with other human beings.
