Text-Based Tanya—Week #58

okay all right so this is the weekly text-based Tanya what chapter are we up to 35 35 very good this is somewhat of a milestone as we explained in our very first class and those who weren't with us from the very beginning um either those who join us in person here at the Olivia's library on Central Avenue every week or those who watch online you can go back to class one and you can yeah just go back to class number one I think this class number 50 six or seven or I don't remember I lost track but um we explained the first class that Tanya has a structure the altaraba gave chapter numbers to different chapters he didn't give them chapter titles which would have given you a bigger hint as to what they're about but we have to do some of the work so we have to give our own chapter titles to the chapters to figure out what they're about and then in addition to the chapter titles what we've done and we pray that this is somewhat helpful and somewhat correct is given informal titles to groups of chapters and I speak about this at length in the first class you can go back and watch class number one whenever what was that a year or two ago whatever that was okay but if you remember I said that in Tanya there are obvious discernible themes where there are groups of chapters that explore one theme and then they finish and then another group of chapters explores another theme spoke about that kind of if you were here for class number one you kind of remember it's kind of kind of sounds familiar okay so why October 11 2021 okay so that's when that was you have your notes very good excellent okay in chapter 26 we began the theme of joy and we've been doing that since uh 26 until till last week when we finished chapter 34. now maybe I'll review very very quickly what we've done since chapter one hmm very briefly chapter one through eight is what I call the the uh lexicon of Tanya it's to teach you all the major Concepts that we're going to need to know the two Souls the ten Soul Powers the three Soul garments and if you're listening to this you're like what are these you're hitting me too fast with all these different numbers and words that means it's fine you're not a dumb person you just don't know those terms go back to lesson one that's it that's all that means you're not in on the lingo and by the way that's why the altebra put all that stuff in the beginning of Tanya so that you would be in on that Lego because if you don't if you never taught those terms then it's not that you're a dumb person it's just you weren't uh taught what you know with those it's a it's a it's a technical language that is specific Italian in fact even if you've learned other Panini you might have to relearn this because the author of it doesn't necessarily use these terms the same way it's used in other swatham it's an internal system it's internally consistent it's interesting even in some of the outfit of his own slottom other than Tanya uh he says that the usage of language is different the the Tanya has a very specific way of using these terms um okay at any rate so one through eight we learned about the the whole all the big ideas that we're gonna need to know that kind of you have a total reverse that says it's successful I guess it's kind of encouraging but it's also kind of frustrating because I don't know how it is accessible so the title page says that it's called meditation that was 16 and 17. slowly change your emotions through meditation then 18 to 25 was well what if you need to quickly change your emotions okay we have something called Obama to sacrifice everything to preserve its connection to God okay how do you trigger that usually it comes out in very intense life or death situations so he teaches us how you know a little life hack how to trigger it was 18 through 25. okay 26-34 he comes in he says joy we got to have joy we know why because if we don't have joy we're not going to be able to do the things that we were taught how to do because everything that you do joyfully you do well and if you don't do it joyfully you don't do it well so 26 34 we focused on Joy at this point we have our methods for for being being abandonedly pretty clearly laid out and we have the emotional Tools in order to implement those methods follow what I'm saying it's like he tells us how to be a baby here's what you got to do oh and in order that you should be able to do that stuff here's how to stay emotionally healthy so he gave us all of that in the first 34 chapters you follow okay so now what's now what's happening at this point at this point remember I told in class one to kind of imagine it like every chapter is another because the the rabbit shahb said anyone who learns Tanya has this as a personal audience with the altered so why are you coming back why are you bothering the outside again you have to have a new issue a new question that had not Arisen earlier if it's a good question if it's a good problem the best problems are problems that you wouldn't have had before you had your previous solution good Solutions lead to new problems so now I have a new question see my original question when I came into the outlet of it to begin with before chapter one even started what was my problem my problem was a lot of I was so confused I didn't even know about the two Souls I didn't know about any of that stuff and I was just like what's wrong with me and am I a hypocrite am I a liar am I a faker what I just want to serve Hashem but then I don't want to serve a sham so the first thing he did for me is just give me clarity he explained to me my dichotomy okay then I was like okay what do I do about this he said focus on Behavior okay great how do I focus on behavior and he told me the first kind of my account to our life you can do things that you don't feel like doing wow I know that but that that counts of course that counts of course that's what you're going to do all right and then he told me a new tool after that you could actually kind of slowly and directly change your emotions through meditation oh amazing what about while I'm waiting for that to kick in oh you could quickly change your emotions temporarily through triggering the the latent love okay if you guys follow what I'm doing I'm going through the whole time okay oh but by the way I had a bad day now I don't feel like doing any of the things you've told me to do already okay great we're going to deal with how to overcome your emotional issues so that you can always be joyful and you can always implement the tools that we've learned so far great does this resemble the Tanya that you've been learning okay since October 11 2021 okay fine so now I have a new problem here's my problem my problem is I'm questioning the entire method of Tanya in fact I'm questioning the entire meaning of life because I've been rolling with it so far I've been just rolling with it and I can't deny that it makes a lot of sense but now I have a question a burning question that is sort of going to poke a hole in the entire system the whole Tanya and my entire understanding of of life itself and that is okay I don't want to say I don't want to sound disrespectful but it sounds like what the altaraba has done is he just moved the goal posts you know that expression basically I came in with a complaint about my ability to serve God and then he dazzled me and Confused me and and made me think that something was the goal and it really wasn't the goal don't want to sound cynical I don't want to sound skeptical but here's what I'm thinking and forgive me for saying this I still can't perfect my insides my emotions are still a Battleground I still have a very active animal soul on an internal level even if I've successfully implemented everything he's told me to do and I'm now abandon me which means I have behavioral Perfection okay I have behavioral Perfection but on the inside I still have all types of unwholesome urges that I'm dealing with on a constant basis no no no no you're good you're good you're good because as long as you focus on behavioral Perfection you're good well I'm sorry but with all due respect isn't that just changing the goal post what you did is you gave me a manageable goal called behavioral perfection okay I'm laughing to myself because I'm like behavioral Perfection is a manageable goal but but yeah I mean sure that's what we're talking about but behavioral Perfection is a manageable goal as opposed to emotional Perfection which is like we already said that's the realm of the Sadiq only at Sadiq is going to only ever feel holy things okay but basically here's what I'm saying I'm questioning the Tanya and I'm questioning if if Tonya is correct and I'm questioning all of life requesting the purpose of life because questioning the Tanya because basically all it did was give me this modified version of Yiddish kite where you just focus on your behaviors oh yeah I know you meditate and change your emotions a little but you'll never fully get there because you're never going to be a tadiq right so I'm questioning that and then I'm questioning if Tanya is correct then I'm questioning the purpose of life because so then that's what I came here for God took my soul put it in a body and now the best that I can with a lot of hard work the best I'll ever achieve is behavioral Perfection but I'll never I'll never be rid of that internal emotional conflict it's always going to be there so and that's what that's what it's all about Alfie that's what it's all about you guys don't get any references for baccarat he's still alive but it does get better yeah because yeah it gets better but I'm gonna put and it's up and down and let me let me push back that even when you're doing your Aveda panimus which means your inner work and your emotions are becoming more refined but at the end of the day you're ever going to become a tonic no no okay so then I never arrive always striving never arriving and that's my complaint okay okay maybe not everybody well I I don't I don't I don't know you say but you knew that from the beginning I was rolling with it because I didn't have any better plan but now we're up to chapter 35 and I'm saying hold on a second can I question the premise of this entire approach of course of course you're entitled to question the premise well that's what we're doing that's what we're doing so the outer ebb and now is going to address these basic questions what's it all about okay um pediglometer experience the soul is like they're saying quantum physics the conscious Observer right so that sounds really lofty it's amazing you have this entity which is able to have such awe of God and love of God it and it is lofty but you're describing a lofty subjective experience you know what I mean by a subjective experience it it's the soul having its perspective of God in other words it's beholding God it's seeing God as opposed to being God it's very lofty but it's not Unity it's a subject object relationship two entities you're following okay so if you're smart you're probably already thinking ahead and you're like okay so she's contrasting the soul with the body and why we need the body and its Good Deeds and he's saying that the deficiency of the soul that even the lofty of soul the soul of itsadiq is intrinsically by definition incapable of melding into that Oneness with God precisely because it's subjective experience of God Is So lofty so I'm thinking I don't know if I'm right yet he didn't say it yet but I'm thinking he's about to tell me soon something about the body that what the body is capable of what achieving Unity get the solid sink forget about the soul the Soul's incapable of having them yeah yeah the goal is to bring the screen yeah yes yes but why can't the soul accomplish that because the soul doesn't get consumed in the process the soul is observing the process it doesn't become one with with with the light of the shrina until it until it's in the body no no the soul doesn't do it ever okay I thought you guys were way ahead of where you are so I'll spell it out the soul is incapable of serving misfunction because precisely due to its lofty sensitive capacity to love God and to to to fear God it will never become one with God it will have the loftiest possible subjective experience but it will not become one with God because it's you want to talk about being an observer there's no greater Observer than the soul the soul has such one with God Soul means a lot of different things but in the present context when we're talking about the soul that has come down into this world well even in heaven because you don't have a body yeah I know but this but it but but it's gonna have a body and it did have a body it's not about the place it's about okay that's not becoming one I'm just explaining this to you follow me here this is precisely what I'm telling you that the soul for sure when it's in a body but even when it's in heaven that's not called uniting with God that's called observing God that's not becoming one with God that's observing God that's having no your eyes and your head is different your eyes in your head no that's when you're down here already and you're monitoring your physical activity the soul is incapable precisely because of its sensitivity and it's heightened consciousness all it can achieve is consciousness of God it's consciousness of God is that which inherently prevents it from becoming nullified into God it will have the loftiest level of a subjective relationship but it will not become subsumed within God's Oneness and lose that Consciousness because if it would become one with God it would lose its subjective experience of God and what is a soul a soul is the subjective experience of God it is the goal and that Soul can't achieve it about it without the body right but isn't that where I was sent down that's what so we're explaining how remember we said what's the point you took this precious soul that loves Garden is in awe of God and you plunge it into a physical body now it's trapped down here and for most of us who are not Sadiq in what that's going to mean is that the best will ever be able to hope for is behavioral Perfection and we're going to be constantly struggling with the internal emotional conflicts and what's the point of it all so he says you want to know the point of it all the point of it all is what okay it's a fuel the Irish which we didn't creation of all the spiritual planes that were part of the process to get to the net results of having a physical world all of that was basically a series of concealment after concealment after concealment now it's all hashem's will if he didn't want it it wouldn't be there so it's all his will but that will is very very hidden to the to the point where you even have clippers which fights Hashem which would appear to be against his will now it's really not against his will or it wouldn't exist obviously he wants it or wouldn't exist but his will is now very very very very very very hidden so we're going through an existence where God's will is hidden the Mitzvahs however are his unfiltered will that's what I want don't mix wool and linen I don't like it okay that's just his his unfiltered unconcealed will you following this so far okay fine let's go a little bit further well can we get to a okay I think we can go a few more lines and get to a good resting place for today all right haha Virginia the the shrina dwelling on something basically means godliness being revealed on something or in something is that that thing becomes one with God and then the Oneness of God God who is all one dwells upon it and is revealed within it is but anything that's not totally nullified to God Hashem is Gala Bay the light of God can't dwell on it so listen so counter-intuitive so counterintuitive in the more spiritual you are the more you're going to Grapple with this who's cleaving to Hashem with with with love his thoughts cannot grasp God so he's so super sensitive he's so super god conscious but it won't bring him into Oneness with God impossible you want to know the real the real God the real God is Oneness if you're experiencing him on a conscious level that's not Oneness because if you're still there to experience it that's not Oneness the incaine if so there I have this one who's loving God right now we're talking about the soul of this Sadiq who's loving God who yes he's something not a nothing he's a something he's a something that's loving God and he's loving God excellently might I add Ed late Feast of big cloud but his thoughts cannot grasp God if they ain't under Hashem is the light of God will not dwell on him or be revealed with him with him in him it was the only way is through Mitzvahs upon him because our hashems on hidden unfiltered will so listen to this the soul can't do it even the soul of the Sadiq the irony is the loftier the soul and the more profound its experience of God the more it's locked into an experience of God it's seeing God as opposed to being God the body however has no conscious experience it's a Golem has no conscious experience has no sensitivity no love of God no awe of God perfect it can just purely Channel God in a totally surrendered manner and not get in the way the soul is actually getting in the way the soul is getting in the way because it's filtering everything through its experience the soul is like the frustration why the frustration That's The Human Experience because we're back and forth and the soul is feeling one thing our body's feeling another so what he's saying here is that the real Ultimate objective can never be achieved through the soul okay let let's wrap it up he says I learned from my teacher from the from them as Richa Magid that the ironsov cannot become one even in the world of adilis the highest world except by being invested first in mushrooms the real ainsov is is Oneness and that can only uh without getting the whole explanation of different spheroids but that could only happen on the level of but any lower than that even in nazillus it can't happen in other words it has to be total surrender and the soul is incapable of that surrender yeah the soul is
