Day #55–Rambam DAILY Sefer HaMitzvos

is day number 55 of our daily study of ramam Safara mitzvahs in the three chapters a day of mishna Torah we are in Hillcrest which are pesach related laws Passover related laws uh specifically we are in chapters 5 6 and 7. so today's Mitzvahs we have three Mitzvahs today all pesos related negative commandment 200. negative commandment 200 and that is the prohibition against comets being seen being seen it shall not be seen and its sister prohibition negative commandment number 201 so that was 200 this is 201 against Comet being owned or possessed which is called Bal yamatse so we have Baler and Bal yamate and they go together uh to the extent that one who owns comets and pesach violates both of these simultaneously it's a double whammy um interestingly lashes are not administered for transgression of this prohibition although the standard punishment for transgressing a Prohibition is Lashes in the times when the courts were capable of judging and administering such punishments but there's a general rule which I do not think we've we've mentioned yet this year in this cycle of rambam but it's interesting to note that lashes are only administered for the transgression of a Prohibition which entails action if the prohibition is transgressed automatically without action then although it is still a Prohibition there are no lashes administered so let's say somebody owns comets going into pesach and they didn't get rid of it well once it's pesach they will automatically be in violation in violation of baliira in Baal Yamato so they didn't do an action therefore no lashes are administered however oh you're gonna ask and you're you're right if you say well what if they bought they bought comets on PESA yeah and then they did an action and then they would actually incur lashes of baliira and Bali Yamato um so those those are uh two Commandments that go together both prohibitions now a positive commandment positive 158. we make a bracha on this Facebook there is a positive commandment to eat matzan PESA now does that mean to eat matzo all peso no you're not allowed to eat hummus we learned yesterday yesterday we learned the prohibition against eating comets today we learned the prohibition against owning comets um so you're not allowed to eat comets but you don't have to eat matzah except on the first night on the first night there is a positive commandment on the anniversary of our Liberation from Egypt and we do it at the Seder and we eat matzah it is a positive commandment uh outside of the land of Israel we observe the Seder for two nights because we have two days of like we mentioned when we're learning uh the laws of so then we have the Commandment of eating matzah on both nights and it's appropriate to mention here the emphasis that the Reba placed on giving Jews the opportunity to connect through this positive commandment of eating matzah on PESA especially in light of what we know from the holy Zohar that the matzah and the first night is the second night is that is food of faith and food of healing the matzah that we eat on the first night is food of faith in the matter that we eat on the second night is food of healing and as the hayam explains that I was safer um there is healing that brings to Faith and there's faith that brings to Healing healing that brings to faith means a person was sick and then God healed him and then it brings him to believe in God but faith that brings to Healing means he can skip the whole sickness he doesn't have to go through the healing process he doesn't have to have been sick he just goes straight to the faith and then he has a retroactive uh healing or preemptive healing where he doesn't even have to be healed from a sickness he just skips the whole sickness and that's why we have that order first the food of Faith then the food of healing and the the rabbit did much to encourage and promote that wherever possible we should give gifts of shmura matzah meaning the type of matzah that can be used to perform this positive commandment to Jews everywhere so that they would perform this positive commandment specifically on the night of pesach okay that's what we got today we will see you God willing tomorrow [Music]
