Day #44–Rambam DAILY Sefer HaMitzvos

is day number 44 of our daily study of rambam sephraim and in the three chapters of Dev mishna Toda we are still in Shabbos chapters 21 22 and 23. and our myths for today is the same it was yesterday negative commandment number 321 nobody should leave his place on the seventh day which means the prohibition as we explained it yesterday against leaving the town now if you remember I think uh I mentioned the number how far out you're allowed to go which is 2 000 Amis 2000 Amis beyond the city limits and how to define the city limits that's a technical discussion but right now just remember I want you to remember that number two thousand Amaze which we said is about three thousand feet about a about a half a mile a little bit over half a mile um so in Shabbos specifically in chapter 27. in mishna Taylor the rambam says that the 2000 Amaze limit is a rabbinic stringency but really biblically you can go up to 12 mil 12 mil which is about 24 000 Amis and that's between six and seven miles okay so hold on a second as we mentioned yesterday that Adam says that 2 000 Amis but then in mishna Torah the ramam says well 2000 is the rabbinic stringency really biblically it's not a violation until twenty four thousand homics approximately so how do you explain that discrepancy well their album himself explains it because we have responsor we have uh rabbinic response from their album Letters which he wrote himself and in responseum 310 310. the the rambam writes there's no contradiction whatsoever he says say for a Mitzvahs was to give a general understanding of the Mitzvah so he didn't mention both categories he just mentioned the 2000 Amis but in mishna Torah which is more thorough and it's supposed to give all the details so there he mentioned both categories that the 2000 Israeli rabbinic stringency but up to um approximately twenty four thousand almost is the actual biblical limit but in sevra Mitzvahs you didn't mention that that that that extra detail or that which for safer Mitzvahs would be an extra detail although from Toyota that was something that was important to be mentioned and from this you you gain a an appreciation for the difference between severometers is really trying to give us the the basics of of each Mitzvah and Mission is the place where you get everything literally every detail that you could you could think of you want to know about how to do a mitzvah it's all there it's so thorough that's the that's the advantage that's uniqueness of mishna Torah it is well there are many advantages but that's one of them is how absolutely thorough it is in treating every Mitzvah with with precise detail okay we'll see you for more rambam tomorrow God willing
