Day #20–Rambam DAILY Sefer HaMitzvos

it's day number 20 of our daily study that I'm saying for a Mitzvahs and we are concluding in our daily study of three chapters of mishna Torah the uh the laws of repentance we're on chapter 10. so today's three chapters of Mishra are chapter 10 of the laws of repentance and the first two chapters of the laws of Shema the Shema prayer Okay so because we're still in mishna Torah the three chapters of the mission third we're still doing one more chapter of we're going to say again for the fourth time fourth day in a row we're gonna say uh positive commandment number 73 which you all know so well because the fourth this is the fourth day we're saying it which is the Commandment that when one does chuva one should verbally articulate uh confession of the sins that one is doing to show up for uh I'll share one more little insight about that um and and I really recommend everyone to look in the source volume 386 is the Biblical context for confession comes from so the question is classic question why does the rambam say the Mitzvah is confession he says the mitzvah's confession when you do chova meaning to say chova isn't the Mitzvah chuva is like the context within which you do the Mitzvah when you're doing chuva anyway then you have a Mitzvah to verbally confess but the children itself isn't there's no Mitzvah says duchova rather the Mitzi is confessed when when you're already doing chuva so why is it like that why isn't duchova a mitzvah so there are many answers to this question over the centuries but I'll share with you one Insight that is mentioned in this and it's from a more mystical point of view and that is that we know that the 248 positive Commandments correspond to the 248 limbs we mentioned it actually in the Misha beta prayer when we ask that Hashem should send a healing to a person we mentioned to all of his 248 Limbs and also 365 sinus or blood vessels which correspond to the negative Commandments but at any rate the 248 um positive Commandments correspond to the 248 limbs in fact even mentions it in the hakdama in the introduction to mishna Torah so here's the deal every positive commandment corresponds to a limb in that it is a particular and specific expression or manifestation of the relationship with Hashem just like each limb or organ has its unique function and in its separate way of of operating and so through each Mitzvah accomplishes a different aspect of the connection with with Hashem but here's the deal chuva is not an aspect of the relationship with Hashem chova comes from etz to use the mystical term the the very essence of the Soul which is intrinsically bound up with Hashem so when we do chova it's not an aspect of the relationship that's being revealed it is the essence of the relationship itself therefore it can't be one of the 248 Commandments trova is bigger than that it is the essence of our relationship with Hashem and it can't be contained within a specific manifestation it cannot be um ascribed to any one of the 248 limbs it is it is a Transcendent Mitzvah it is the very essence of who we are and and our connection to Hashem so I encourage everyone to to learn the sikha uh inside that's just one Insight okay very exciting after four days we're starting a new section uh krishma the laws of the recitation of Shema the first two chapters at least and correspondingly we have positive commandment number 10 which is to say the Shema when when do you say it well you said you have to assessment right foreign should be recited twice a day when when you get up and when you lie down when you lie down when you get up and that doesn't mean when you lie down or get up and the old time that you happen to roll out of bed but these are specific times there's a set time for the evening Shema and we'll talk more about this Mitzvah tomorrow because tomorrow we're going to be continuing in Hillcrest Krishna and we'll talk more about this commandment then as well God willing see you then
