Day #107–Rambam DAILY Sefer HaMitzvos

today is day number 107 of our daily study of rambamitswiss in the three chapters today we're on our third day of Hillary's the laws of Oaths so uh Ron chapters seven eight and nine of those halachas um we're continuing with Mitzvahs related to verbal obligations proclamations that we take on and we have two Mitzvahs today both negative prohibitions negative commandment 248 do not deny do not deny what do not deny a uh monetary obligation let's say a person owes a debt he borrowed money from somebody and then he says no I don't know anything I don't have that uh or if he was entrusted to hold on to an article for safekeeping um somebody says you know when I went on vacation I uh left my uh lawnmower with you uh no no you didn't I don't have it right so denying a debt or denying that one has a possession that belongs to somebody else that is a Prohibition in its own right now negative commandment 249 is a further prohibition a separate prohibition which is not to swear falsely in denial of that debt or holding on to the possession of somebody else in other words the first prohibition was just he denies it with without an oath that that's the first transgression then let's say the guy whose property it is or who's whose debt it it is litigates he takes them to urbanical court to the best in and now the first guy who's holding on to the money or The Possession whatever it is he goes as far as to take an oath that he doesn't have it or he doesn't owe it so that is a separate prohibition negative commitment 249 the prohibition against swearing falsely in denial of a debt uh those are two amidstvs today we'll see you again God willing tomorrow
