What does it really mean to be a cycle breaker? It does not mean that you have condemned your family. It does not mean that you have cut off from your family. What it means is you've chosen to do things differently for yourself and the family that you are building than the family that you grew up in. Yes, there are some families that are so unstable that it's not safe to be around them, but in the vast majority of cases, a cycle breaker can still be around family and in fact one of the tests that you truly have forged a new path is your ability to go back, be around family, and to retain your newly found principles. I'm not saying go back just for the fun of it, just to see what will happen, but I'm saying if you have a legitimate reason to be there. If you want to attend a life cycle event, a celebration, a family dinner, in the vast majority of cases, it is safe to return and you'll have to stick to your guns and be firm and let people know who you are, but more importantly what will happen from that exercise is that you will have a deeper appreciation of who you are.
