It's incredibly exciting
to start the Torah again.
And I feel like there's a freshness in
this time of year. We're starting the
winter season. We're getting ready to go
and ready to roll and setting up our
routine for the year. And we start with
safer Bereishit. And
we Everyone knows if there's any famous
aliyah, it's this one. The first day of
creation, Hashem made light and
darkness. On the second day of creation,
he made the heavens and he made the
waters of the earth. On the third day of
creation, he separated the land and made
grass and trees grow. On the fourth day,
he made the stars, the sun, and the
moon. On the fifth day, Hashem created
the birds and the fish. And on the sixth
day, he obviously created all of the
animals and then he created man. And on
the seventh day, he created Shabbat.
That's how aliyah. But in this aliyah,
there's an incredible lesson of how life
is meant to be lived. Hashem says the
words when he's about to create man,
"Na'aseh Adam." Let us make man. And
Rashi famously says that what Hashem did
is he went to get advice from the
angels. Even though obviously the
angels, he didn't need their advice, he
went to get the advice of the angels.
And Hashem says it teaches us something.
That even though
this yesh makom l'minim l'doyos, there's
a place right here for someone to create
some heresy, some apikorsus, to think
that Hashem needed the help of the
angels. Hashem doesn't care. The Torah
wants to teach us derech eretz, that you
seek the advice of others.
I have a huge question.
You're you're
That's what a crazy risk. If we're going
to teach about the fact that someone
should be humble and seek the advice of
others others, put it in some lesson
somewhere in the middle of the Torah.
Why do I have to put it right here when
it's going to imply that Hashem needs
help? And it's going to create almost a
place for apikorsus. Why would Hashem
take that risk?
The answer is Hashem wants us to learn
that lesson, and he needs us to learn
the lesson now at this spot because he
needs us to understand that in our
creation we need to have the proper me
dot at the proper attitude literally
from when we're born. When man was
created as I said I'm going to infuse
you with the humility that sets up your
whole life. So I could teach you some
lesson of humility in the middle of
Parashat Vayetzei but it wouldn't do the
trick. Hashem wants us to learn it here
as we're created to make us understand
that in order to live life the way it's
intended to be lived, the way you were
created to live,
you need to be humble.
