CLIMBING THE ROCK OF GUATEPÈ (Colombia Travel Vlog)

good morning from midday in colombia so it's day number two and we are on a coach bus it's really not my style we're going like real tourists today and we're on the way to a place called guatape which is like within an hour or two of the city i don't know close by there is a gigantic rock that we're going to be climbing over there the views from the top are supposed to be insane and i think we're going to see some other things too so the bus has been making stops all over town picking up different uh groups that are joining for this trip but uh now we left town and we're getting really high up into the mountains and the scenery is breathtaking already obviously we keep kosher right right liver absolutely beef jerky and um so we can't eat the lavish meals that are being served with other people on the tour we got fruits and fresh fruit juice and we made sure that everything was prepared in the proper kosher fashion and now we eat i stood up for a second to pick up my drink from the table and this little furry fella took my seat this drink contains mango and blackberries what makes it red there was something red in there papaya then we're asking the utility company to help them rebuild the town enough to lose area and it's exactly the place where we are going to find anything located today they revealed it a kilometer and a half away from so we got back on the bus drove for a few minutes and now we're at this place a little town called el penol and apparently in the 1960s or 70s the there was the old town of el pino and that place was um flooded purposely because they needed to build a dam so in order to power electricity in the country so they bought everyone's houses and made them move to this new place called new paniol that's the new city of pineal and uh we're gonna let's check it out see some stores [Applause] i got the ponchos i always wanted one [Music] look at these cute little coffee beans [Music] if you're going up and suggest that you take a liquid with you especially water okay so it's just coming to view this is the rock that we are going to be climbing soon okay so we just got off the bus check out this rock it's gigantic you can see one of the staircases there i'm not sure if that's the one we're going to go up or we're going to go down because there are two separate staircases one is for going up once we're going down but this uh it's supposed to take 15 to 20 minutes to climb let's see how long it takes us and check out the views even before we get on top of that thing look at the views from here unbelievably beautiful so we're at the bottom of the steps there's about 700 of them and here is number one doing i think i'm gonna lose 40 pounds by the time i get to the top check out the views i'm hoping with the 10 of it i'm hoping wow steps are not easy for a big man okay we're gonna try to do some more they're actually quite steep [Music] so we just met another staircase the two staircases neat that's the one you used to go down [Applause] huh people are passing me on the way up [Music] my heart is beating like a drum boom boom boom boom boom just gonna take it easy wait till i'm ready to proceed this is awesome to have these nice views while we wait so we keep getting higher and higher up this does not seem to end i have to take another rest the meantime i noticed these really cool leaves on a plant growing out of the out of the mountain out of the rock check out the detail on these leaves [Music] anyway i hope we're near the top but i can't see for sure hopefully yes let's go so we seem to be at the final stretch and i know this because the people are coming down the mountain are coming down the same way which and because i just saw the staircase that goes down started a couple feet below where i am now so where it must be really close to the top there are eagles soaring right above and below our heads almost there just a few more steps so i reached the top there's a tower up here the views are crazy i don't know why i signed up for this okay so i'm on the way down surprisingly it's a little bit harder to go down than it is like physically it's easier but the steps are more difficult they're very small and slippery there's water in all of them hello and uh additionally if you weigh as much as i do gravity pulls you down so you gotta be really careful anyway okay we finally made it to the bottom that was nuts hello there's all these souvenir shops at the bottom i still need to get myself a poncho okay so i got some ponchos one for me one for my wife and uh we paid about 30 a piece it probably we probably could have bargained but the woman was nice and i try to support you know try to support uh underprivileged people as much as possible so she's here working hard i feel good we pay full price anyway that's that i'm going to show you the ponchos later okay guys so we are going to we're back on the bus crazy story but when i bought the punch was i gave the woman my credit card and then i didn't get it back so i got to the bus and i realized i didn't have my credit cards i ran back she didn't have it either but someone else in the store had it i'm sure it was a mistake anyway i got my credit card back and now we're spread okay back on the road so here we are it's the small town of guatape very colorful cobblestone streets looks like it was lost in time [Music] so it's a really cute little town it was built in 1811 and what they're known for what they're famous for are these things called zokolos it's these designs that they put at the bottom of the homes so every house every house has different ones this one is sheep these are the another shape on this house look we got another design that's what this town is most famous for so our guide explained that these zuccolos they portray what the stores are selling so this store would sell clothes that's why it has the pants and the shoes okay and now my travel partners are doing some poncho shopping just got myself these magnets one of these two of these actually and one of these this is a little picture of pablo escobar dead on the roof of the home that he was killed in just met this very nice couple this is andre hola from israel and hello darling argentina wave to your family they're going to be watching this video so awesome to meet people see if you're jewish and you walk around looking jewish other jewish people approach you every city has an umbrella street right yeah a lot of them do [Music] here we go [Music] little town square over here with cafes so colorful i love the colors that's the best part well i forgot to say people are really friendly in colombia so far so impressed by the friendliness of the people look so here on the steps i have so many different zocolos a saddle wheel [Music] and more zocolos so now we're at this restaurant where the whole group stopped to eat it's not kosher so we're going to be doing our own thing hi doggie we're stopping here at the water we have like a little separate table and they provided us with some kosher fruits all fruits are kosher by the way and we're gonna do our own lunch with what we brought along from so these two little doggies uh this one's not so little have decided to come join us for lunch apparently they only like kosher food specifically la bachelita we offer them strawberries and uh no they don't like strawberries so now they're having chicken instead i need two dogs look at us we're in a country with no kosher food and we're giving our kosher food to the dogs okay there you go he eats so fast you have to give him one at a time give him one at a time like a dog nice do it again good shot okay we are now at the next stop we're gonna take a boat ride on this reservoir and we're gonna go see the old town of paniolo le panol where [Music] the town once stood now it's all underwater oh my god a banana tree lasagna foreign my [Music] oh so now we're at the last stop of the tour this is the replica of the city or the town of penal and here i found some pictures this is what the town used to look like before it was destroyed and flooded and this is after the destruction started and you can see the waters already coming in um so this is i guess what the old town the center of the old town used to look like and that's that tired it's been an exhausting day and i look forward to getting back to the hotel and getting some rest so i just got myself three of these pablo escobar shot glasses can you see the bag this is how they look packed what do you think border control is going to think when they see these shrink wrapped little bags from colombia do you think i'm going to get stopped when i come back to the united states there we go that's the one thank you thank you it was a long but very fun day had a great time and now it's time to call it a day so we're going to go to the synagogue to eat some dinner i'm going to come back here get some work done and go to bed
