Remembering the King of Cantors: Yossele Rosenblatt's 89th Yarhzeit

good evening we're very happy that you have joined us i want to begin by thanking the sam say for sure and eugene wiser where is eugene josler was the king of khazanas he's the king of the lower east side for sure so i before we start just one technicality this is really really important it makes a huge difference to us look at your cell phone you don't have to turn it off put it on vibrate accompany us of course can to eric freeman who will be on the piano and obviously at this time we also remember that at every concert that i was ever at the united states hasn't danny gildar of hashem was a part of it so it's very meaningful because cantor freeman is his is was and will continue to be his prize student so we're very happy to have him let me just explain to you the order of the to struggle filming for fox this wonderful film that they were going to put out that was hopefully also going to get him out of the financial disaster that he was facing and he came home i guess having been too much out on the sun on the sea i think they were on the kineric they were certainly out on on the sea and he didn't feel well and within a few hours he passed away and what's incredible is that he passed away so poor that there wasn't enough money not only not to do the leviah but also to send his wife and son back to um back to i believe they were living in chicago at the time and um just to give you perspective ralph rosenblatt who was justly's youngest son told me many years ago that the you know his father traveled to israel left most of his children in chicago and he was sitting on the tram and the person in front of him was reading the chicago tribune and on the front of the tribune it said king of cantor dies of heart attack and he says the man in front of him can i have the paper and that's how he found out that his father died obviously he came home and there was a telegram etc but uh we're dealing with times when there was no communication but one thing's incredible and i know some people especially those on youtube sent me some people called hate mail i call it lovemail why do we call it the king of canters you know everybody has their own opinion it's my humble opinion not just mine that you're yeah that was the point about the cell phone being off i can help you if you need to shut it off the point is that josela for many was the king of chazanes and the idea that after so many years people are singing his piece his pieces people are here tonight there are people live on facebook and youtube and all these different channels someone
