Join as we learn together Kumish for
Sunday paras shimini the third portion
in the book of Leviticus chapter 9 verse
one last week's Torah reading we read
about the seven days that Moshe trained
Aaron and his sons and he did the
service in the holy temple the
installation rights and the anointing of
Aaron and his sons Today we begin where
now Aaron takes over from Moshe and
begins as the high priest and his sons
as the kohanim. This is the first day of
the actual service of Aaron and his sons
in the holy temple on the first of
Nissan when of year 2449
as mentioned previously that the reason
for the building of the tabernacle was
to atone for the sin of the golden calf.
At this point up until now, the Jewish
people did not see God's divine presence
in the tabernacle and therefore were
seemingly upset by the very fact that
their sin was not completely atoned. But
only today when Moshe be when Aaron
began the service on the eighth day,
that's when the divine presence rested
in the tabernacle and the Jewish people
saw that they were atoned for their sin
of the golden calf. Thus we begin today.
And it was on the eighth day, seven days
prior of the installation and the
training of Moshe. On the eighth day of
the installation, on the first of first
of Nissan,
then Moshe summoned Aaron, his sons, and
the elders of the Jewish people to
inform them they have now completed the
installation process. And now Aaron was
going to take over.
What does it mean on the eighth day?
This was on the eighth day of the
installation process.
This is the first of Nissan
that the tabernacle was erected that day
as we read before in the book of Exodus
that it was on the first month in the
second year in the first day that the
Mushkan the tabernacle was erected.
On that day, the Jewish people were able
to receive these 10 crowns, great
special advantages that are discussed in
the book of the
why the elders of the Jewish people
let them know that this is because God
commanded Aaron to be the high priest
and it wasn't something that Mosha on
his own decided to do. This was based on
the command of God.
Then he told Arab,
"Take for yourself a calf and in its
second year and it should be as a sin
offering as a sin offering and a ram as
an ascent offering." They both should be
unblenmished
and bring them near before God.
Why was he taking a calf and not an ox?
But this is to let know that God has
forgiven you and atoned you for the sin
of the golden calf through the very fact
of you bringing this calf as a
sacrifice. Verse
four
and an ox and a ram for a peace offering
to bring the slaughter before God.
and a and a um and then you're going to
also bring a grain offering that's mixed
with oil, kneaded with oil
because today God is appearing to you.
What does it mean? Because today God is
going to appear to you. Hasn't God
appeared? Doesn't hasn't God appeared to
them even without the sacrifices? Why
does he need the sacrifices for God to
appear them?
So that you should be able to see that
the divine presence is in the work that
you're doing.
Therefore, the sacrifices come as an
obligation on this day. Verse five,
and they took what as Moshe commanded to
the front of the uh to the approached
the entrance of the tent of meeting
and the entire community approached and
stood before God. Verse six,
Moshe said,
"This is what God has commanded you
shall do that you shall dom
and that the glory of God will appear to
you." Verse seven,
approach the altar.
Do your sin offering your sin offering
atoning for yourself
for the people. also then do the
sacrifice which is for the people
and atone for them as well like God has
commanded.
Verse seven,
why did Moshe to tell him to approach
the altar?
Aram was afraid and he was embarrassed
out of humility to come close and
approach the altar. Moshe told him
why are you embarrassed? Come and
approach and bring the sacrifice
is for this is self reason that you were
chosen
your sin offering. Why yours? That was
this was the calf that was told before
that he should bring as an atonement for
the sin of the golden calf
and your scent offering. That's the ram
that we mentioned previously.
the sacrifice of the people a goat for
us an offering and a calf and a lamb
called any time that you're going to see
the word calf ben it's usually a year
old or within its year
from here you know that when we see the
word ael
they're always talking about either in
their first year uh and but when it
generally it's in it in his first year
however when it talks about the
sacrifice of Aaron. It was two years old
at the time because it says Ael
Benboker.
So therefore we know it was two years
old. Verse 10. Verse eight
approached the altar.
And he slaughtered the calf that it was
his.
And then the children of Aaron received
the blood and they brought the blood
vessel to him to him.
Then he dipped his finger into the blood
and he put it on the protrusions of the
altar and the rest of the blood.
The remaining blood he poured at the
base of the altar.
Verse 10.
And the fats and the kidneys
and the diaphragm along with part of the
liver
from the sin offering. He brought as a
he sacrificed on the altar
like God commanded Moshe
and the flesh and the hide.
burnt in a fire outside the camp.
What about the flesh and the hide? This
sin offering where the blood was
sprinkled on the altar.
This is called the sin offering which
generally the meat was eaten by the
coim. Like we read before in chapter 7,
we never find that the entire sin
offering was burned besides this one.
The one of the installation days.
Why were these done differently? While
generally a sin offering, not the blood,
the flesh and the hide was not usually
burnt outside. This was unique because
God told them to do in this case
differently.
Verse 12.
And he slaughtered the the ascent
offering.
And the children of Aaron then presented
the blood to him.
And he and he sprinkled it and he sp on
the top of the encircling the altar.
Verse uh vamsu. What is the word vamsu?
So Rashi explains that means
uh
meaning that they presented it to him,
they give it to him, they helped him out
by giving him what the blood was. They
giving him the vessel that had the blood
on it like this. He was able to put his
finger in and sprinkle the blood. Verse
13.
And then they presented him the ascent
offering.
They cut it up into pieces and the head
and he brought it as a offering on the
altar. He burnt it up on the altar.
Verse 14,
he washed the inards and the legs.
And then he burnt it up on the altar on
top of the altar as as an ascent
offering.
Verse 15.
And he brought the animal for the people
sacrifice
and he then took the people's sin
offering which was the goat the sin
offering of the goat which was
representing for the people
and he performed all the procedures
which is the slaughtering
and all the other procedures that came
with it like the first ascent offering
that he did.
What is the word?
He did like the sin offering like the
first one. Why doesn't he say uh what is
he referring to? Like his calf that he
brought previously. So too he did for
the one that he did for the people as
well. Verse 16,
and he brought the ascent offering
and he did it with all the procedures
and regulations that were done for a
regular voluntary ascent offering.
What does it mean? Like the laws
like all the laws that are mentioned by
the uh donation when a person
voluntarily brings an ascent offering
that's described in the beginning of the
book of Leviticus and parikra. This
concludes the first tow reading of
parasmini.
