Shavuos and Balloons - Yeshiva Darchei Torah

something now you probably never saw anything like this in your whole life you might not even know what this is you see this you probably you don't even know what this is right you never saw this before does anybody know what this is and you know what i'm going to do now we'll watch this ravi am i allowed to continue blowing the balloon in the class okay we're going to blow up the balloon can i do it yeah show me that do you know what this is probably never nobody ever saw something like this right you never saw a balloon before do you know what a balloon is balloon is made out of plastic and there's nothing in it you see it's empty it's like a little piece of pasta you could fold it up in your hand and when you blow air into it there's something inside boys what's inside this balloon what's in there what's inside the balloon air air now if there's air in the balloon where did the air come from where did this ear come from it had to come from the one who blew it up it came from inside of me now we're gonna let it out when hashem created adam when hashem created all of us he blew into us what did he blow into us he blew into us so if hashem blew into us our neshama then where does the shama come from then ashama comes from where hashem it had to come from hashem that means inside of us there's a neshama where did that neshama come from it came from hakadosh baracho now how great is that how great is hashem endless it's hashem's greatness is infinite there's no end to hashem's greatness hashem is the greatest being in the whole world but if hashem blew our neshama into us and our neshama is a piece of hashem so how much greatness is inside of us how big could we become how much yura shamayim could we have how much endless it's infinite because if our greatness comes from hashem put our shama into us and just like when someone blows a balloon the air in the balloon comes from the blower so too if hashem blew our neshama into us the neshama is a piece of hashem that means our greatness comes from akadesh barchu and is infinite so how great could all of us become there's no end it's endless it's infinite so i'm going to tell you a little story this story comes from the gemara the gemara is in the gemara says that one of the amirahim his name was of sheishas and rav shaysas he would review the whole torah every 30 days and at the end of the 30 days you know what he would do he would jump up and down and he would say he would talk to himself do you ever talk to yourself but sheishas would sometimes talk to himself and he would say khado inaugura rejoice myself rejoice myself and you know what rabshashas would say to himself rabsheshas would say you learn for yourself i learned for myself what was rabshesha saying we learn for ourself don't we learn for the whole world so let me tell you another story should i tell them another story yeah once upon a time there was a backyard you ever hear of something called a backyard or a field and in the field was planted the most beautiful trees the and these trees could produce the best fruits there was a apple tree and there was an orange tree and there was a pear tree and there was a a vineyard there was a vine for grapes and there were what other kind of trees were there um a regular tree there was a tree even that had zoom tablets growing out of it there were all kinds of trees growing growing in the tree in the field but there was it wasn't producing any of the fruits the apple tree wasn't producing any fruits the orange tree wasn't producing any fruits the vine wasn't producing any grapes the zoom tree wasn't producing any tablets why why wasn't anything growing in this field because nobody was watering it and without water then even if the most beautiful fruits are planted in the field nothing the most beautiful trees are planted nothing could grow because every fruit needs water it's the same thing with arnashama hashem blew our neshama into us and in our neshama is every kind of beautiful fruit we have the fruit of ammuna in hashem we have the fruit of kadusa holiness of tahara of purity we have all kinds of good fruits inside of us but they'll only grow if the neshama is watered you know how the nisham is watered by learning torah every day when you boys get together with your rebbie and you learn torah your rebbe is taking the torah and he's watering your shamas and then you're becoming greater and greater you're becoming big tamid and you're becoming very great yiddin and therefore rabshesh's every 30 days he would after he would review his learning he would say yeah learning is a great mitzvah and it brings bracha to the whole world but the most bracha brings is to me learning torah brings out the greatness that hashem blew into us but even though we all have a tremendously great neshama we all need to be watered by learning torah and therefore shavuous is such a happy day you know why it's such a happy day because we rejoice and we're happy that hashem gave us the torah that waters our neshama that brings out all the greatness that's inside of us so i want to end with one more story yeah one more story says i should say one more story so in um there was once a guy and he was sitting back in his office and he even had a cup of water you see this cup of water there's ice inside the water i made a bracha before and he was drinking water and he was very comfortable he was sitting back on a big couch and he was relaxing he just ate supper he just what do you like to eat for supper he likes to have a barbecue he just had a good barbecue and he was very very comfortable but he didn't want water you know what he wanted he wanted snapple iced tea and he saw a guy outside who had snapple iced tea and you know he starts asking huh my friend my merciful friend who has mercy have mercy on me and give me snapple boys you know what mercy means mercy means rahmanus would you ask somebody if you had cold water to drink that someone should give you have rahmanus on you and give you snapple if you ask someone for rahmonas that's that's that's crazy you can't you already have cold water maybe you could ask somebody do me a favor you know i have water but it would be really nice if you gave me some snapple but you would never ask someone that mercy on you you know when somebody would ask for mercy if you were traveling in a desert for three days and you had nothing to drink and you were getting dehydrated and you were just feeling so weak and then you saw someone who has a little bit of water and you you didn't know if you could survive would you say you know i was wondering maybe you could just uh consider think about giving me a little water would you ask it that way you would say have mercy on me right you would say have mercy on me because you're in a very desperate situation so you only use the words mercy when you need something very very badly boys you know in davening there's only one thing we ask hashem to give us and we say merciful hashem who has mercy have mercy on us what do you think we're about to ask for we're obviously something we need very badly like maybe we're about to ask for hashem heal me hashem give me a job hashem give me good health no there's only one thing we ask hashem to give us and we ask him to have mercy on us to help us understand the torah because the most important thing in the whole whole whole world to cloud israel is understanding the torah it's even we don't even ask hashem hashem have mercy on us give us food we don't say hashem have mercy on us give us heal us we say avino of harachaman merciful father hashem is our father who has mercy who have mercy on us and teach us the torah you know but that sounds like torah is the most important thing in the world why does it sound that way because because it is because torah is the most important thing in the world and therefore and like we say in marev the torah is our life and there's nothing more important than our life so that's why it's such a happy day because hashem gave us the greatest gift he gave us life you know what life means life means we could wake up in the morning and even though we can't go to yeshiva we could still learn with our rebbe and we could learn torah and hashem gave us the life of a year that's the best life in the world so boys thank you so much for um letting me join you today and i want to thank the rebbe it's unbelievable the rebbe gets up every morning and even in the middle of the night the rebbe is worried about the talmidam and it doesn't matter what the situation is outside your rebbe is my surname he loves the boy so much that he's so happy every day to be able to water us so it's like when we're going to the rebbe we're like
