coming up on Shalom TV we catch up with
our principal Mr Dan mcmah look at some
of the highlights from our annual Sports
Carnival and look at our new segment
entitled The Adventures of banjo
Nicholas we also catch up with Braden
hobin our drummer extraordinaire plus
let's indulge ourselves in the 2024
showcase hello I'm jasine Phillips and
I'm Alexander Curtis and we are your
host for today's show Welcome to Shalom
TV our principal Mr Dan mcmah has all
the college information we need to know
for both students and parents alike in
principal
talk welcome everyone to another edition
of Shalom TV so we come towards the end
of a very busy semester um 2024 as we
finish semester 1 really pleased to be
able to announce to the shalam community
that our kolok building which you will
see pictures of behind me shortly uh
will go ahead um starting very shortly
only in the last 15 minutes did the was
I advised the tenders had come in and
were slightly under the budget that we
had anticipated for that building so we
will be full steam ahead with that we
expect to have builders on site within
the next Fortnight over the holidays to
start demolition of the Damian block and
start to build the new kolok building
which will look a lot for for people
like the current Waterford building but
will be designed more for year 11 and 12
students in English and Humanities so
that's a really exciting uh
multi-million dollar project for Shalom
over the next 12 months I'm really
hoping that we will have that open for
business by the start of term 2
2025 as we come towards the end of the
term and I mentioned it in the last
newsletter I have a sense of
gratefulness to so many people for
making semester one at this wonderful
college so busy jam-pack full of great
activities for young people from the
teaching and learning that goes on every
day in our classrooms and just as I
walked here seeing young year seven
students so immersed in drama and dance
and music uh to all the activities that
go on academically for us as a college
teachers in our school and the teacher
aids and support staff we back them up
do a wonderful job for your children and
that is only helped by the support you
give them as parents that you value
their education and encourage them that
to do the best that they can do on top
of all that I really hope all of us have
the same sense of gratefulness to the
people who add over and above here at
Shalom over the next couple of days
we'll take um four teams of students to
Townsville by bus so many staff involved
in that for our quizen and quiz
carnivals we'll have students going to
Bendigo for the mercy school student
conference in Victoria they'll take a
jumper or two with them we've just
finished a really successful showcase
here at uh Shalom over last weekend two
nights and just again a tremendous
display of talent uh at Shalom that's ay
led by so many wonderful
staff sport the art academics stem camps
so many things make up part of life at
Shalom I'm so grateful for the staff who
support those things but I'm really
grateful for the students and the
parents who rise to the occasion and
support those staff doing the job that
they do I often talk to in in the
circles that I move and principal
colleagues in this state uh in Catholic
system and The Wider education system
and nationally I'm on the executive of a
National Catholic Secondary principles
conference so I talk to a lot of
principles around the state and around
the country
I'm always quietly very proud of our
Shalom students and staff and parents
there are always things that don't go
well and sometimes there are problems
but
comparatively Shalom is blessed to have
things go as well as they do every day
day in day out and that doesn't happen
by accident it happens because of the
tremendous support and enthusiasm from
staff the wonderful enthusiasm of
students and the and the unflinching
support we get from parents here we
shouldn't take that for granted for one
minute so a huge thank you for me at the
end of a semester for all that you've
done to participate to making Shalom a
great College I hope this holiday break
is wonderful for all of you who can take
a break I hope this your sons and
daughters um make time to say thank you
to you for the opportunities you give
them every day have a great break and
look forward to seeing everyone bright
and refresh refreshed in two weeks time
after winning both men's and women's
state of origin next week hopefully all
the best God bless it's now time for
sport we recently held our annual Sports
Carnival over 2 days here are just some

Ian King has been part of building this
culture and something we should never
take for
granted I almost get a tear coming to my
eyes I see those photos before and see
photos of brother Watcher another man
who made a Monumental difference to the
culture of this school but Ian's done
that and also tonight I just met before
Mrs Robert Edgar who is who retired a
couple of years ago who's with us
tonight Robert's always welcome back but
we would not be here in this
facility with this number of students
with the amazingly talented staff we
have now who support
them stand for those words um half word
um I I I didn't know whether I was going
to get an opportunity to speak and I
didn't hear anything I just want to say
that um everything that happens in this
place or any wonderful place is because
of the community and uh I'm
