historic publication of Sefer Ahavas

went this past week to the Mendel
Gottesman Library and I saw the very
first edition of Sefer Ahavas Yisrael
published by the Chofetz Chaim. It's
published in the back of Sefer Beis
Yisrael.
All of that is available. Okay, shiur
number one today is Smuchim me odd.
Connecting the beginning
of Parshas Tazria with the end of
Shmini. And here we go.
Parshas
Tazria
begins.
>> [clears throat]
>> Daber el Bnei Yisrael lemor, "Isha ki
sazria."
What is the juxtaposition of Tazria to
the end of Metzora? Well, simply
um
it's like Rashi says.
Rashi brings from Rebbe Simlai
that
why is the Torah of Adam
following the Torah of beheima chaya
v'of?
Rashi says, "Just like the creation of
man is after the creation of beheima
chaya v'of
so too are the halachos of tumas Adam
following the halachos of tumas beheima.
So therefore, Parshas Shmini discusses
the
ritual purity and impurity of animals,
which animals you can eat, which animals
you can't eat. So therefore, following
that in Parshas Tazria are the hilchos
tumah v'taharah of Adam, isha ki sazria.
Okay, fine. Then the Tzur HaMar has an
amazing an amazing approach to the
smichus aparshiyos.
Says the Tzur HaMar, "Earlier on Parshas
Shmini, it explained the dinei tumah of
food uh
of touching
food that became hochsher l'kabel tumah
through a mashkeh.
And it talked about beheimos tumas
beheimos taharos. Now it's coming to
teach about tumas isha yoledes and tumas
Adam.
What's the connection? First it talks
about a yoledes.
Says the Tzur HaMar
because
it already spoke about korbanos in the
beginning of Vayikra.
This is the seventh type of korban
mentioned in Vayikra. The first six were
already discussed in Vayikra and Tzav.
So now we're coming back to the inyan of
korbanos. In other words, the
juxtaposition of the parshiyos is not
just to Shmini, it's to Vayikra and Tzav
as well. Vayik uh Tzav, I'm sorry.
Parshas Shmini spoke about tumas mechal,
maga, massa, tumas beheima. Now we're
talking about tumas isha yoledes
and tumas Adam and begadim, but it began
with yoledes because we're in the middle
of the subject matter of korbanos.
Now
says the Tzur HaMar something out of
this world.
But it's more than that.
Because it's coming to show that all
tumah and all tzara'as
are all a result of the cheit of Adam
HaRishon and Chava.
Tumas niddah, tumas zivah comes from the
sin of Adam HaRishon. Like Hashem said,
"B'etzav teldi banim." Before the sin of
Adam HaRishon, there was no niddos,
there was no dam, there was no zivah.
So after Hashem says, "Eat this, don't
eat this. Lo zeh tochlu, lo zeh lo
tochlu."
That's the end of Shmini. Eat this,
don't eat that. What is that reminiscent
of? That's reminiscent of
the Eitz HaDa'as. You can eat don't eat
the Eitz HaDa'as. You can eat the Eitz
HaChaim. The warning, this is the first
time in the Torah it says anything about
yes to eat or no to eat. Why?
Because it's an introduction to hilchos
tumah v'taharah. It's letting us know
that dinei tumah v'taharah result of the
sin of Adam HaRishon. So it begins by
saying, "Eat this, don't eat this." As a
reminder of the Eitz HaDa'as and the
Eitz HaChaim. And now it's saying,
"Because of the Eitz HaDa'as and Eitz
HaChaim
women become a niddah and a zavah and
there are all kinds of tum'os."
And the Tzur HaMar brings a proof to
this
from the following.
It's a Gemara in Kesubos. A woman came,
she didn't have dam besulim.
The husband went to Beis Din. He says to
Beis Din, "She's not as advertised." She
said, "No, I'm from the Dorkati family."
They said, "What? What's that?" "We're a
darkatu'a. We don't have dam niddah. We
don't have dam besulim."
And they said to the husband, "Wow, you
hit the jackpot that you married a woman
from the Dorkati. They're always tahor.
There's no safek niddah. Like kodem
macha'is."
To the point
that
through niddah and zivah
a woman
becomes tamei because of the sin of Adam
HaRishon.
Therefore
ein isha mis'aberah ela samuch l'vestah.
Shenemar, "Hein b'avon cholalti."
Meaning
through tumas niddah and zivah
that
that creates tumah in Adam. In any
event, says the Tzur HaMar the
juxtaposition of Parshas Tazria to the
end of Shmini is first it tells you,
"Eat this, don't eat this." Don't That's
reminiscent of the sin of the Eitz
HaDa'as and the guidelines of the Eitz
HaDa'as. And it's
immediately after that are all the laws
of tumah v'taharah at the end of Shmini
continuing into Tazria to indicate that
tumah v'taharah is a result of the cheit
of Adam HaRishon. Now, the Ba'al HaTurim
has very amazing connections between the
end of Shmini and the beginning of
Tazria.
The end of Shmini, it says
"V'his'kadishtem vi'yisem kedoshim."
The beginning of Tazria is "Isha ki
sazria."
What's the connection between having
children and the warning of kedushah?
Says the Ba'al HaTurim, "This comes to
teach that one should sanctify
themselves during marital relations.
That's why it says, 'V'his'kadishtem,
sanctify yourself. Isha ki sazria,
produce a child.' That that
the act of producing a child should be
performed with the utmost sanctity.
Also it says, "Do not
disgrace your souls." From which we
learn in
that if somebody has to relieve
themselves, they should not hold it in.
They should not hold it in.
By the way
what's the halachah?
If somebody has to defecate and they
can't hold it in for 72 minutes
and they davened Shmoneh Esrei
they have to daven again.
What if somebody could hold it in 72
minutes?
Are they allowed to daven?
They're not allowed to daven.
What if somebody needs to urinate, but
they could hold it in, they say
for about 3 hours.
Are they allowed to daven? No.
What if somebody has an urge, a slight
urge? They couldn't snot. You're not
allowed to daven.
You're not allowed to daven.
That's why before you daven, you need to
go to the bathroom.
I don't have to.
Pal, you're not 4 years old anymore.
But that's part of kedushas hatefilah.
Before you daven, you have to go to the
bathroom. Now, this was learned from the
pasuk, "Al t'shaktzu es nafshoseichem."
And juxtaposed to that is "Isha ki
sazria." Says the Ba'al HaTurim, "This
teaches
that somebody who came out of the
bathroom
should not have relations immediately.
They have to wait a certain amount of
time."
That's the juxtaposition of "Al
t'shaktzu es nafshoseichem."
"Isha ki sazria." Says the Ba'al
HaTurim. Then it says, "L'havdil bein
hatamei u'vein hatahor. Isha ki sazria."
Which means that if somebody's marriage
was terminated
a spouse died, there was a divorce
then in order to get remarried, you have
to wait 3 months. L'havchin bein zar
l'zar to establish paternity.
Anyway,
and then one final one,
uh which is a beautiful idea my friend
Robert Fowl and so of France
offer this.
Parshas Tazria uh Shemini ends Kiani
Hashem Hamala eschem me'eretz Mitzrayim
liyoscha Elokim. Tazria ends with
Yitzias Mitzrayim.
If you remember,
many many uh uh
from years ago and we've mentioned it
many times, Yitzias Mitzrayim was
likened to a childbirth.
Do you remember we discussed that? That
that's the reason the first makah was
makas dam and that's the reason why
Hashem himself took us out of Mitzrayim
because only Hashem has the key of
childbirth.
The This is an idea developed by Rabbi
Yitzchak Isaac Haver
that
the Exodus was likened to a childbirth.
That's the juxtaposition. Ani Hashem
Hamala eschem me'eretz Mitzrayim.
Isha ki sazria veyalda. Yitzias
Mitzrayim was akin to the birth of a
child. Okay, there are many other um
connections that are mentioned in the
safer Smuchim La'ad, but that's
our presentation of the juxtaposition
for parshas Tazria. Stay right there.
