Science Experiments for kids Sukkos building with Dr. Shnitzel's Wacky Science

[Music] welcome welcome sixth grade of darim in the beautiful community of Crown Heights how is everyone doing today hasem we have a very special y of coming up the yump of sukus who here likes to eat in a Suka me I thought of an amazing amazing little competition I would like to have with you guys we have with us three sukers blue red and yellow we're going to divide you guys up in three teams and we're going to see who here can build the most amazing kosher Suka out of the materials that we have one of them has a bunch of toys and candy another one has all sorts of outdoor stuff like a bicycle and hula hoop freeze pops coolers and everything you would use like maybe wood to have a bonfire and the third one would be everything we have in the house like pillows blankets hangers and whoever builds the best suer is the winner but it's going to have to be kosher like I said before and for it to be kosher we first have to find out what does it mean to have a kosher Suka so we have with us an amazing Rabbi from the okay kosher rabbi hanoka everybody please give a round of applause to Raab hanoka for taking from his very very important time to make sure that all the food we buy in the stores they're all kosher and he came to teach us what a kosher Suka is so pay very close attention because at the end we're going to look around together with my helper Izzy Izzy welcome welcome you're going to be Dr schnitzel judge you're going to be the referee to tell us who from all the kids built the most beautiful anosha Suka are you excited made it yay we're just going to go over some brief about what the minimum Shear the minimum size of a Suk is to become kosher so you can go build your own and all that here we have a model of a minimum siiz Suka which is 10 high and seven wide all the way around now in addition to that the itself has to cover the top of the Su most the Su you have to have most shade and minimum sun to be a kosha Suka now there also some that involve the wall of the Suka does it have to actually touch the bottom of the ground can it be slightly off the ground how much and all that here we have some pre-cut sizes to help us give us a visual demonstration of this a visual feel so to speak so there's a known as L which means to say if I have the wall coming within three of the ground so I have the wall coming a little below this stick let's see right around here then it's as if the wall actually touches the ground so a there are different opinions about a what the size of a is this is approximately what it looks like and three would be three of these which equals this so as long as the Wall comes below three off the ground it's considered as if it's touching the ground and there we have the of in addition we also have a that a sheer the actual walls of the Su itself it's more M to have a Suka that's made from four walls in fact it's brought down in this far that the word Suka hints to this the S has four walls and the has three walls like this one and the he is two and a partial which could also be CER if it's done in a proper way and as I said before the the bare minimum of in terms of the Su you have two complete walls and then the third wall would be a partial where you have within three from from the post so let's say it's going to be right around here I'm going to then add another te of actual wall so it's considered as if I have I have the actual physical te here of of of material it's and then the open space is less than three to the end so it's considered as if it's all connected and that gives us four which is the minimum amount on the other side and then you have the RO you have the majority to give you the seventh on the third wall so in other words what RAB hanoka is saying is that we need to have at least three walls but what happens if you only have two walls you could actually make the third wall that it should be going just about for is that correct four and even if you don't have a whole wall you could have about three away you could have one going right over here and that would be just fine but you guys are going to be able to build a Suka that has four complete walls it's going to be the most m is that correct yes hanoka can you please tell us a little bit about the shaking of the walls like is this a kosher Suka well right now it's not Kosher cuz it doesn't have any actual walls it's the it's the kosher size but you'd have to make walls around it that are going to be able to stand within an ordinary winds H let's take a look is this a feels like it's a don't know about that the walls of the Suka can be made from any material just have to make sure that whatever you're going to use inside those booths and those suas you're going to have going less than three off the ground to make sure it's kosher and it's got to be a minimum height of 10 and make sure the Su is also going to be sturdy and uh not not blow away rabie hanoka rabie hanoka um I'm a little bit stuck over here uh Robie hanoka is this a kosher sua you look very comfortable in there no I'm not so comfortable in here help get me out I think that's I think this Suka does meet the minimum Shear the minimum size yeah is it is it four walls yeah how did I get here in here in the first place I don't know but but does it have well we got to get some on you know we're going to put the The Greenery here branches we'll put it in on the wood so that it shouldn't rest directly on the metal why can't they rest directly on because the metal the metal can become tummy and and therefore with the itself should rest on something that that grows from the ground or that cannot receive yeah we got to get a little few more branches and we're good to go you can have your schnitzel in there I'm very thirsty and I want schnit hting like stand I'm kind of stuck over if you're thirsty here you go who knows what this is help yourself it's called Coca-Cola classic I love cocaa I broke my suck off now I can't have it anymore oh oh well I love Coca-Cola one more H we should touch on is that the the walls of the Suka should not flap too much or flap at all actually so there are different opinions about it but it's certainly best to make it in such a way where the walls are going to be so sturdy that they're not going to Flap even with some wind coming so you have some material over here inside there you got some material you can use to secure the walls to make them really really tight and that way it's going to be kosher according to all opinions and wonderful and Dr schnitzel going to have his Coke inside who is ready for this amazing Dr schnitzel Suka competition everybody please give a big round of applause to Rabbi hanoka thank you thank you from the okay kosher thank you so much for your time sixth grade are you ready amazing but first I want to show you some principles of engineering principles of building suckers what is heavier this bubble wrap or this entire box of coke coke obviously Coke is much heavier so we want to make a good foundation when you're going to go to see what you should use should you put on the bottom something heavier or something lighter heavier heavier if you put something lighter Watch What Happens it's just going to topple over but if you put this down on the bottom then you can pile stuff on top or if you have two balls do you put uh uh the lighter one and then the heavy one on top no obviously not this is going to go on the bottom like this and this like this but how are you going to keep this over here well we have over here two kinds of tape we have duct tape duct tape is very very strong but if you use a lot of duct tape is it pretty is it nice no no so if you need to use duct tape you could use duct tape the way to rip it you could either use a scissor there's a whole bunch of scissors over there or you could just quickly rip it like that when it comes to the clear tape you can't rip it with your hand like this but you can use either teeth like that or you could use a scissor we're going to put you over here you see that how much clear tape do we have how much duct tape we have a whole lot over there by the end we're going to decorate the suas whoever can finish and you have exactly 45 minutes to make four beautiful walls make sure that the walls are going from the top to the bottom it needs to be a good mahuda Suka and that the walls are not shaking you have plenty of tape plenty of Manpower I need to divide you guys up in three groups raise your hand if you want to be the them up on one of the walls and they're going to step up and then we're going to connect him with a bunch of tape or duct tape or whatever we get sounds good Izzy how much time do we have like 35 do we need to wear a both through our heads hold on hold on the got to go after the walls of there otherwise it's not Kosher that's what we learned right here take off the and put it on after the walls are there team yellow is doing an amazing job however they put on some before they have the walls done we have to make sure that the walls are first there then the 30 3 minutes left let's go beautiful most kosher sua so let's see H look at this Suka wow team yellow they had such a beautiful job it looks like they did absolutely a fantastic job look at this wow this is unbelievable look at this over here good job and the looks kosher let's see M the walls are pretty steady they pretty strong this is not going anywhere I really like this Suka good job what do you say Izzy 1 to 10 what do outside like coolers and ice pops and like having overnight who likes to have a overnight here you have a sleeping bag and if it's raining you have umbrellas over here and pool noodles this one over here is made out of toys we have a bunch of games and blocks and balls and clicks and wow we even have soda and Lego this is really really creative but Izzy obviously chose team yellow the truth is each one of you guys did such an amazing job every one of you guys are going to be getting donuts who likes Donuts but hold on we got to eat it in a we have to make a do you want can Dr schit go and join you guys in the we're really all meant to eat in one Suka together with unity with all of the Jewish people so let me see maybe I can join them in the Suka H but I need a donut hold on look at
