Rosh Hashanah: Are We Being Hypocrites? What's It All About?
One of the issues people have when Rosh Hashana arrives is that, we act so righteous and holy on the high holidays - but once the holidays are over, we're back to our regular ways, (i.e. not always so righteous) - and it feels like we are being hypocrites. Are we? Rabbi Yehonasan Alpren shares an insight on how to approach change, on Rosh Hashana and beyond. To find Rabbi Alpren's contact info go here: https://www.torahanytime.com/#/speaker?l=422

one of the main problems I think people
have coming into Rosh Hashanah and the
high holidays is that how can I possibly
stand in the show and pray for many
hours and with Grace account sincerity
and yet soon after Rosh hashan I'm going
to back back to my same ways how can I
face myself and not be something like a
religious hypocrite I'm trying so hard
but in reality I'm not really like that
and the person is faced with this and
inner struggle what am I going to do to
stand there and be honest with myself as
if I really play with such intention and
such devotion during the rest of the
year I think we can answer it with a
marshall with a certain parallel a
hustle and color have just finished
shaver boxes and the cousin decides
after the next morning he turns around
and says to his his color his new bride
I'm going out and she says then what
time will you be back
be back about seven o'clock she says
goodbye to him he leaves the door as
soon as the door closes she Dives for
the phone takes the phone and quickly
calls up on mum mum please tell me how
do you make your fabulous soup tell me
how to make the soup and she takes a
recipe from my mom then she calls a
sister who makes wonderful ice cream and
she calls her aunt who makes a wonderful
potato cool and she calls all different
people she's decided to make a gourmet
meal for her husband and she works on it
for hours and hours she's spending a lot
of time on it it takes about four or
five hours and by the time it comes to
three o'clock in the afternoon she
decides to make the house kosher the
Pacer she makes everything beautiful she
buys some flowers she makes her home
absolutely beautiful then takes about an
hour from five to six to get ready by 6
30 she's sitting down waiting and her
husband walks in and smells immediately
what a wonderful smell what's going on
in this house what a beautiful smell she
says please sit down I put something
together put something together put the
hours to put it together he sits down
and she feels the soup out he takes one
sip of the soup and he says my word my
mother never ever made soup like this
this is fabulous absolutely fabulous the
chicken is wonderful that took the
vegetables the ice everything is
absolutely wonderful at the end of the
meal she's sitting there smiling away
and he looks at her and he puts his
hands on his head and he goes oh
this is married life and he's delighted
she looks at him and she says what do
you mean this is married life he turns
out this is how it's going to be every
night now I'm going to come back and
this is how the house is going to be
this is going to be a beautiful meal she
looks at him squarely and she says one
minute my dear husband of one week let
me tell you something quite
and she has three points which she wants
to make to him the first point is my
dear husband I must tell you
if I could I would always provide a meal
like this for you but I don't know if
I'll be able to but you should know if I
really could I would want to make for
you every time a beautiful meal like
this
she turns around and she says you know I
must be honest with you this took me
quite some time to put it together but I
thought to myself as I was putting it
together if this is how we begin the
marriage then I hope I think after one
or two years maybe maybe something will
be left from the way I started that was
maybe only a night and the tablecloth
maybe only the flowers on the table but
I thought to myself at least let's start
in the right way like
so I think that's fair comment and she's
now decomposing herself and she turns
around in the system as well as isn't my
dear husband you know I love you very
much we've only been married a week but
I must tell you something I must be
honest with you it could be that one day
you'll come in and my children is over
my eyes and the house is a mess and
nothing's prepared and you'll turn
around to me and say to me well what's
for supper I'll say well tuna fish and
you open the can there's nothing to eat
at all
but do me a favor she said I said to him
do me a favor remember me like this
remember me like I am now don't remember
me and when when the house is a mess
there's nothing to you do me a favor
remember me like this isn't this really
what we're turning around to the
almighty and saying to him when he comes
I'm saying to you God if I could I would
always pray to you like this I don't
know if I'd be able to sometimes I lazy
sometimes I'm tired sometimes I don't
have the strength to pray to you
properly but if I could I would always
pray to you like this
is really the point of starting the
young in such a way if we start off in
this way maybe by the time it comes to
PESA maybe something will be left
something will be left in my prayer
maybe something will be staying like
this and that's a beautiful point and
then we keep on crying out to the
almighty and keep them saying to them
please remember us for good remember me
like this remember me like I'm trying
like I'm trying so don't remember me
when I really haven't got the strength
or the energy or the ability to down and
pray to you properly remember me like
this and maybe in reality it's something
like a day on Parade if I could I would
always pray like this and please I hope
something will be left and please Hashem
please remember me like this don't
remember me when I don't pray properly I
wish you all success and happiness in
mentorship and Hashem to look at our
prayers and accept them as they are and
their members in this way
