The Rav discusses how on Rosh Hashana, we proclaim that God is King not only in moments of crisis but in every detail of existence, and that humanity’s task is to crown Him, opening the “gates” of our lives to His presence. This coronation is paradoxical: the infinite Creator would seemingly not “need” man to acknowledge His sovereignty. Our prayer on Rosh Hashana extends this by affirming that God’s remembrance encompasses all—our deeds, thoughts, emotions, and even unconscious drives—and that human responsibility reaches into our inner world. Nothing in history is accidental; all is foreseen and woven into God’s plan. Thus, on Rosh Hashana, Israel and humanity together affirm God’s kingship, His providence, and man’s covenantal role in sanctifying the world.
