in the States for a few days combination of personal and professional and I am so happy to be sitting once again with Tuvia Tannenbaum the very noted author whom I've interviewed before but usually in Jerusalem so this time I've come to him in his apartment in in New York City where he and his wife reside for part of the year and he has a new book coming out so first of all - via thank you so much for inviting me thank you listeners so ladies and gents for listening it's a pleasure to meet you all I am very pleased and happy to see you likewise so as we're sitting here we're getting the aloose the exit polls of the election in England which in the United Kingdom which is very interesting because that is the topic of this fifth book that you have put out maybe just remind my listeners we've done a couple of interviews what your previous books have been and what the common theme is that you've now moved in into the fifth one the first book is Islip in Italy swim it's about Germany the second book is about catch the Jew and that Israelis in the Palestinians and the Europeans who live there that they're at the book is the lies you tell that's about America the fourth book is about it's called hello refugees that's a better refugee scene in Europe mainly in Germany and now this process Taming of the Jew is about Britain great title everyone get it Timmy of the Jew yeah thank you yeah and all of them basically the same idea the idea is to go into a country and have the car turn the engine on stop driving as much as you can many hours and stop every F an hour an hour and talk to people you never know while you sleep the next day usually unless you're in a big city you're planning ahead to stay in the city bigger but otherwise you never know where I'm gonna sleep the next day you never know who you're going to meet unless on the rare occasions when you make the interviews they appoint ins reform but usually it's no point since reform just like you go and you try to get to the spirit of the people the spirit of the nation what's going around you who are the people it's like the Lonely Planet's of the soul to speak you know so to speak you know it's not about which what else you should take and which stones you should even though sometimes don't mention hotels and restaurants whatever it is but it's about the people so it's a journey that you know non-stop every day 14 hours days 12 14 hour days then you come to your hotel then you sit down in your whites and this canal for six seven months and it's excruciating it's tiring but it's amazingly amazingly exciting and I live for it I love it I think what resonates with a lot of your readers and I know that you do book tours and your speak in all kinds of places is that you're getting into kishkes so you're getting into the I can't translate it as intestines because hedges sounds terrible but you're not because you're catching people kind of unawares you're meeting someone in the dry-cleaning store you're meeting someone you're got a flat tire and you start talking to the guy fixing it you're getting the real people not the facades not the someone who's got the press secretary people and when you omit the Big Shot guys you also try all the beginners you also try to make it you know on the spots to avoid the spokespeople and all the things you know that's what you try to do yeah and you try to get to that system into the soul of the people try to get really what they think and because of my accent which is undefinable and because of the way I look you know with a big belly Leykis you know he's got suspenders on so who knows where he's from exactly and the the glasses that always that was where I got them from actually in New York City I change the glasses are usually for every book and and [Music] people see me and an eyetie of what every time you know I try not to be official I tell people I'm a journalist but I try to you know i befriend the people first you know and and if you like you interviewee no matter what they think you know they are gonna give you what they what they think about issues and that's what's very interesting about is it's it's you chat with the people for you make the interview you make them feel comfortable and you ask basically stupid questions you know it's like it doesn't take much you ask people stupid questions and for example only realize that people in Britain how obsessed with Jews and Israel or whatever I remember I interviewed an example you know so when I figure it out so I changed my snake questions like for example I'm interviewing a politician you know I'm mayor and I never met them before I don't know she is I have to ignore me and I know nothing about and the nice to do Lord Mayor as far as I understand if I remember quickly you have a very strong interest in the Middle East is that correct shocking you know it's like yeah because the other thing you can still say right so it's like you know so you start asking like different kind of questions like I would see like three guys going when the streets you know young men and I asked him the most stupid question I could ever imagine to ask people for example I said and tell me guys you look very nice it's nice to it and I would ask you a question it one point in your life if you started laughing to brown people of Palestine one was it oh you born with this lab I mean is this like something coming food home of your mama is it something you fell in love with a barn people of Palestine let's say it's each one first year was it like when you had any waltz when you were 20 I mean now 6 what point did you wake up and you know what point he knows it to walk up and you say to yourself wow I love pollens time now this is a stupid question you know if I didn't know what the people think from the phone going around and talking to people I would never had this question I mean this is like if you ask me this question I'd like are you out of your mind and the answer just took it seriously yeah I think I started in my teenage years that was yeah I was 14 I started having this feeling you know it's like the most stupid questions but yes you have to give to understand the people you have to understand the mindset and the more you understand the mindset the more you you on down um it's like you sharpen your questions and she always questions does he have enough people usually have not been asked like I would go and I say to a person you know because we have the cameras and everything I do see and I students coming out of Tesco store for example and I go no sitting my dear friend my name is Mohammed and for the Palestinian three what you'd like to talk sometime brothers and sisters in Palestine and negotiate Cole yes and then he goes there should be a border so is the border is between on the island of Ireland you know because no Sun Islands part of the EU and the rest of Highlands Republic of Ireland it's not about what was not that you had like post of police army and annoying and customs in other and that was the worst I mean people are killing each other I mean bumps were flying all over flying all over an exploding everywhere including London so I was I wanted to be to see it so I started the journey into the United Kingdom I started the journey in the Republic of Ireland so my first interview a guy named Mike I should him explain to me tell me about your people tell me about to diverse people and he starts talking and he says well we have the Union East you explains to me don't the ones want a union we do we would we do a UK with its constituents of British we have the Republicans you know like Edition Fame you know we have there no historic Lee there the Catholics and the Republicans you know and all these things loyalist Union is you know it's like all the names that they are using we've been killing each other a bombing each other for god knows how many years we can't seem to agree on anything but there's one thing we get on all of us don't like ISM and don't like Jews so this was my my entry into the world of I 11 button so I'm when I was in Ireland a few years ago a there is no border like the only difference is is that when you go from it goes from the metric system into well goes from the English system into the metric system although I have to say that the music on the radio was better in Northern Ireland that it was in Southern Ireland I don't know why I don't know why but other than that if you don't know that you're going from let's say you know four miles in two kilometers you don't notice some little things and also the currency of course is changing you can see nothing I mean yes it's kilometer is it's miles in towns you pay in your oh yeah they're paying you and you'll be paying pounds means like but basically it's like there's nothing you can see on the road I'm in the border but and that's the question you know that's what the fear what happens in practice it out road and to make the border to make the border in the sea between in Northern Ireland and their island of Britain I mean in the British you know that's it's not good because then you treat northern Island differently then it's a dad once the nose and I know you know the hands don't want that so this is basically the question so that's where I started I started with Highland then I moved to the border border towns I got to Londonderry you know got into Belfast and I met all the it's like amazing you know it's like you start even in Dublin you know on the in the mayor's the Lord Mayor he tells me that you know under you know they fly the Palestinian Flags they believe in Hamas you're not like all kinds of things he knows like they have nothing else to do but in doubling to fly the Palestinian Flags you know one type of City Hall and it's stupid things like that then you cross over and you go to Derry Londonderry whatever you call it because everybody calls it differently it depends if you wanna be Brits if you don't want to be British if you want to be in the Union then you call it you want them there yeah domestically Derry arguing about sheekha's everything even the names of towns so and then you see Palestinian Flags all over it's like amazing you know everywhere you go everyw you drive see Palestinian Flags are you still there also is really flex I didn't even one I want West Belfast Belfast you know of course there is as I said to you then I went to go to a pub and just to understand what's going on with communist on the record with EC my wife then we have people coming us and sound equipment being so it's clear dear journalists you're not sneaking in anyway then they say my name is my name I say I'm a German journalist how you doing and and this is if you have a cording everything say so what's the story the old blistex of Palestine is that you have you and explain to me you know because of those damn cancer Jews you know and then they say you know all kinds of other things like you know Hitler didn't finish there one mistake it I didn't finish them all so it's not so much at the pro-palestinian is there anti-semitic it's obvious you know it's like what does it gain and and and then you go also to Scotland them you see the same thing you see Palestinian flexi and plus the influx there you see all these organizations solidarity Scotland sort out the Glasgow solidarity with Palestine disk campaign for Palestine whatever Scotland is Ireland because I know I interviewed someone from from Ireland a few months ago and he said Ireland is in a class of itself also in terms of BDS and a lot of the work that they're doing and I haven't been to Scotland but my family my husband and Sons were there a few months ago and like they were you know keeper and they didn't feel they didn't feel the kinds of threats that we've felt let's say even in parish or in other places like that but you think Scotland is also over there the same thing [ __ ] there drunk all the time so they're happier about it I don't think anybody is thank all the time I mean bits see a different kind of people they are not the Irish people Irish people are more hard going you know a more like boom they'll tell you everything and just start telling you stories they'll tell you everything you think it Scott's a less and yeah in between the Irish and and the English kind of you know she I met that filter develop see now see an associate filters but otherwise got to be came straight you know it's like you know bigshot state you know on a weekend in Glasgow for example you know and and the roads are there all the big shoppings you know it's no cause you don't just like and you see look over and you see I I try to go to Apple Store and and the front of the Apple store people standing with you huge Palestinian Flags and you go and you see okay you see if something like a tent is tall and even if it's not a Palestinian store you know like of every kind of NGO you know this kind of solidarity loyalty Palestine whatever it is none of them almost you know it's like all these NGOs Palestinians you know none of them are actually Palestinians they are white people white Scots you know and this you realize only in your going to talk of the people you stabbed with the stones and you're talking to people and you see were the people the ones who I saw one stones are they so Muslims was a stone core called free corn you can go there and pick up a corn for free that's where Muslims not one white person but outside of the core installed you know and then if you go to the Communist stole you know they have also stole chemical and you can buy all kinds of tchotchkes you know and some of the tchotchkes go for something different kinds of flecks of Palestine I mean so so this the Palestine there is it's like it's the same as she gases you know they are just not so extrovert in you know in their behavior but but it's a very similar kind of people you know this is the cause but but it's caused with a sinister like I remember when I was growing up so there was Greenpeace they were save the whales that there's always a cause that a lot of people want to latch onto that makes them feel good but the sinister side of this particular pro-palestinian cause is that it's not really about the past aliens it's a way of subverting anti-semitism and anti-israel I like to give is like shows barriers that's in England you know that's the city of Darwin Charles Darwin and I meet a guy you know Alex in a way I remember him because because it's a really good guy you know and there's a thinker you know just just finished college finished university and he's starting his own business and he explains to me you know that it doesn't believe the media - maybe I use fake notes on either side I told EFT he everything he investigates you know and and and it tells me there was one issue that really bothered seems that you meet a lot of examining it in Italy policy mean and Spanish time you know what Israelis are doing to the Palestinians you know and it just killed 40 Palestinian children in one day you know and then I asked him you know it's like what do you think about the situation in Chechnya you know I mean the Russians were bombing them you know then which place bombing anybody to say put them into submission what do you think about what happens to the Muslims since you obviously care about Muslims what do you think about Muslims in in China you know I mean Chinese to Enoch million Muslims also near the force education what do you think about what happens in Yemen you know on the oldest places you know on basically the sunnis and shias kill each other I was thing about the kids because obviously were like brown people whatever the [ __ ] it's you know it's like and everything I say so I don't my bad I didn't I don't know I don't know what you can tell your value they said so the only issue of honesty means can you explain to me why and think you're like you that's Tony so many things I just am you know what I really don't know it's in Dustin's at you asked me this question I it never care for me because you really believe me I don't follow to knows I'm it's like I don't believe in demons if I jump you know if a mystery I check everything for examples they say that six million Jews were murdered in the world war two logical Holocaust I found out this is not wrong this but now I'm going gamma I'm gonna think about it you know it's like and and subsequently more people the same things you don't know why do you think only about it is they just don't know this is the issue that bothers them this is issues they care about but you don't know about why do you think that is that but it's and say why didn't you put Iran why didn't you put Israel widened about China as a are you I'd it's not the Palestinians if I got to put it it's like it's like it made it they click something and why is it it's it's anti-semitism its anti-semitism pure it's not as they don't care about the Palestinians you know it's don't care about the students living in Jordan if I tell them the stories like verifying stories of honesty Lorenzo should I have seen personally a witness because I travel in Jordan to say and I know how the Christians live there for example is you don't care the Palestinian the dump services they don't care about a killing in German don't consider I don't care it's because the Joey's in the middle and why is it it's a classic anti-semitism it started with their divorce so to speak or the split between Judaism and Christianity around 2,000 years ago but especially since warm adapted Christianity is a state religion you know before that it was I mean Christianity started you know it's a Jewish sects mantra stacked and you're the followers of Jesus and in if you read the New Testament you see Jesus saying to his people to the Jews they arguing the Jews he says to them you speak in the name of your father the devil and I speaking in my father God you know stuff like that you know Jesus goes to the temple in Jerusalem and why did you see money changes on the steps in the courtroom any thoughts there think so at the time it was my second between Jews and Jews which is okay you know to just arguing look taste oh yeah you know and they say the worst things to each other but when it became Jews and Christians you know and then and Jews now we have in the New Testament that the Jews are good at money means they're like money it changes and also they are the children of the Satan so from this we know everything I mean there's nothing else and it says you know nonsense is in the New Testament that the only people who have a veil over the face and they cannot see the real tools and then the early glory of God are the Jews but then again this was just talking to Jews but it only became just not of integers when I we know the history of 2,000 years of persecution of blood libel I do it the first blood libel was in England I didn't know that I didn't all these things before so that's the explanation and in England because again I understood it only there are those who say that the modern anti-semitism if you will 21st anti-semitism is not that that it's a political anti-semitism because you know it's it's Israel represents the Jews well you're saying here though is that it's a mix it's like I I don't accept either thing I mean I infiltrated this organization I know this organism the people I travel a lot in Europe how much I've been without extreme right and extreme left and everything in between it's you see it doesn't matter that the people like in Germany folks in Peru and Britain or whatever it is you know in modern Western Europe many do not believe in God anymore when they do not believe in Jesus never in anything but that thing the culture it's embedded in the culture it's it's not in the DNA of the peoples in DNA of the culture it's like you go up with it you know that you knows of the Jews of money you know is that the Jews kill us you know the Jews for no reason in vain to the countries that existed called Palestine you might not know you might not know where it is and if he asked you watch the distance between Jerusalem and Israel as I did sometimes people you know the difference people didn't know could not tell me the distance between Jerusalem and Palestine you know it's like it's like stupid things people didn't know but it's not about knowing that it's so just know that he the Jews came to and that's what you have and while I did not want to cover anti-semitism in Britain because they didn't think it existed because they thought you know Signet country I want to cover theater because I love British theater especially English theater that's how it's my idea to hide the book covering English theater British but mostly English theater because they think it's the best data in the world at least I thought so that's what I want to go there and because budget is happening so I should have currency - that's why I started instead of starting in northern line in their studies in Ireland the idea was not to cover anti-semitism you got a surprise of course from the data I mean from the first interview and then it went on and on and on and they saw more and more people doing the same stupid thing but that's what it is it's it's embedded in the culture it's people think and I remember I asked her one on one thing this is I asked a UC am in a university near University College in London UCL I asked one of their teachers over there explained to me on this whole thing because I interviewed like eighteen year old students and and it's told me how much he loved Corbin secured by the Palestinians are like it's like what is this with his kids and he explained to me he said understand is a state of mind it's a brilliant reservation that they never thought about it well as there is a state of mind you don't have to know what it is you don't have to know what it is another nothing a set of money you have to check it so Palestinian state in that case already exists because if it's a state of mind it's it's the biggest country in the world it's a state of and then they'll juice coming in and plundering it but it's that's what it is so you have the image so and you have the image of those Jews would take like little minority people you know and basically wipe them a matter them that's it where is it okay is it in South America is it in where is it in Africa nobody cares you know there's this beautiful place called Palestine has been planted major oceans is it I'm amazed at how optimistic you are because I mean I I think I thought it was clear when I say optimistic I mean about the British that you went there that you went there and you didn't think they were anti-semitic so you know I know maybe also because I guide Yad Vashem and I do all these things they Winston Churchill for example had to be very careful that the the English didn't think he was fighting World War two to save the Jews because they wouldn't have been behind him and ok Lawrence of Arabia ok so there were some Brits who were also pro-jewish but most of them were pro-arab but I guess you could say that maybe that was geopolitical that it was that oil it wasn't about not liking the Jews it was a that there were a lot more Arabs in the Jews and the Arabs were sitting on where the oil was and the British wanted to do that wanted the oil so it was reality I have been in London many many times you know I had to go to London for you from New York go to the airport JFK jump on a plane as I say you know a nap on a plane and go to London for three four days just watching theater for a to Z and then coming back in my image you know brick knows London and run on a theater and a theater I didn't see anything in the Semitic there are all kinds of beautiful theater you know like one of my favorites you know black borders Biola yeah so that's like beautiful amazing theater that I saw in London and that's what's written for me you're a very narrow focus of what Britain was and you got your eyes very much opened up on a crack that thing why is he doing such a great theater I mean when an actor goes on the stage and says my name is Leah King Lear in Britain I believe him anyone else I don't believe him I don't believe any actor I seek six billion play everyone else in the world outside of the English people acting it I wanna vomit I hate Shakespeare I love said I left to read sex bill but hate watching sex fear but one the English people are doing it I love Shakespeare it's like a beautiful play doctors not screaming the lines you're talking to the lines you know you see those toriel it looks like it just happened yesterday you know and it's beautiful Shakespeare is a beautiful amazing one it's played the way it's supposed to be played like a play let's entertain audience but then you've got off the West End exactly that's what why I was you know I was like that's what they know I've been waitin I name no I've never been before to a lens I have never been thought well first I've never been found to Newcastle I mean what was the UK for me London like most of the people in the world you know you've got to visit Britain what do you got you go to London so I want to the Theatre in London and Max and I've been so many times there even American shows like let's say at the quality the Book of Mormon go to see it in the West and it's much better than sit here it's like they do it better than Americans it's American musical the amazing perfect American action by the way it's like everything it's like you know American choice receive London you know even even shows like Angels in America what did I see in London and of course all the other shows at the London stage so for me Britain was nothing connected in my binder anti-semitism there's not connected okay you have anti-semitism or something okay they are dealing with it with some sugar called Romeo Corbin okay so you're dealing with its own the media okay that's not the mainstream that mainstream and that's what it is some instant party but they took it over you know like oh please I stand amazed I read every day I did any of times I read a Washington Post I did many papers you know when you had any of times after being in Israel and knowing what it is and writing about this the New York Times is very critical of yourself in my view very critical of you sir and some of its of its most jewett us our Jews I mean this is something else but after you start hitting you know now I'm going to three England I started hitting the Guardian every day make sure New York Times look positively Israeli slicker even by the setlist in its are the New York Times is a publication published in each ah you know it's like the most extreme setlist in comparison to the Guardian I mean I know I'm in The Guardian is like it's no world open before me you know I start everything every day the guardian of course temps of London and everything is like and then talking to the people and then realizing you know people what bothers you in the world is you say Palestine is like mushroom you know it's like four collected so all of a sudden I understood the day and they semitism all it's not happening in labor it happens down there it's the people vote for labor it's the people put those people in England you know in there and that's what I remember talking to somebody a few years ago but the difference between what was happening in England and in France where you have a lot of the anti-jewish behavior and France is coming from the Muslims from the lot of the immigrant population this person said to me that it's different in England you have your pockets where Muslims in different places in towns where the police won't go into the Muslims you're living but that's not the main anti-semitic incidences against the Jews in England you're not coming from that in Britain in general and eaten in the neighborhood I went to the neighborhood's maybe mystery neighborhoods it's you know I think the police is all over I have been in some tough neighborhoods some tough Muslim neighborhoods I was a lot of ducks I'm in there too but more or less I have not encountered anti-semitism very little in those places you have to understand the Muslims in in the UK most of them are coming from places like Afghanistan Pakistan Bangladesh you know Kashmir you know India I don't know where like you know they are not coming from they're not Arabs they're Muslims not Arabs that's you know so and even the Arabs who come there on radio they're little care about you know the Jewish issue is not the issue the main issue is totally different you know bets they only like the money and whatever it is they are very religious no Muslim you got to for example to the mask in the East London mosque I wonder I joined in prayer you know I did it look like the furthest thing from a Muslim that anyone would have in mind yeah I'm sorry but I did it I did it I won their idea to push-ups and I screamed Allah ou akbah like everybody and it's not it's not on the top of them it's who white man being in a white woman's thing it's not the man that you love the Jews not as a don't know they don't kill you say the Jews but but this is not the main issue they're not obsessed with Israel the Jews the way other people are generally the muslim of the totally socio not obsess we chose the white many roman obsessed or jews and that was interesting okay but that might be connected to what you said like their Christian upbringing do you pian opinion which is the you Christian upbringing it's connected to that spirit could you know like in Ireland the Christians are not all the same you have Catholics and Protestants and there are people who make sure that this kind of anti-semitism is never to be forgotten these are Jews so all kinds of Jewish organizations you know which are dedicated to anti-israel activities to demonstrations against Israel all kinds of God knows what names there and Joyce with labor in all kinds of Jewish organizations and Jewish intellectuals Oh have a big part in anti-semitism they never can play and that's important too and then you have the Jews refused to admit what's happening in around you not one MP Jewish that's one em Judaism member of Parliament's that's one Lord was also an exception one bonus but in general not one Lord and that one Jewish leader a greater tell me under icon that Jeremy Corbyn isn't anti-semites despite all the evidence and that one of them agree to say that the Labour Party is an anti-semitic they change the spots only after some of them piece like the Lucien Abijah Roy Selmon practically or facing this election which means they know says you're not going to be elected again labor he had nothing else to lose and all of a sudden they started talking about you know Luciana Virgil you know labor is institutionally anti-semitic you know where have you been since 2015 when you started you know I'm coming coming were still well have you been there you're not there Margaret Hodge you know all of a sudden became like a fighter against Corbin you know and all these criticisms Jews and whatever in our on page website in our own page the first page that suffer for well voters for a constituency was one page dispenses the beginning image like the home page of the website was a bad Gaza and about the killing the merciless killing was at Israeli army and she demanded that it will be taken to International Court of Justice and criticizing Tom for moving the embassy to Jerusalem which illegal she was like the worst of the worst only when she became one you know like the whole thing became like politically more convenient from them because you're afraid of losing loss it's you know the change when English and so you've been able to go to the United States and now to England where if and I know that you're just finishing this book and we're talking about Taming of the Jew which is going to be coming out within the next few months and it's gonna be a good year until it's published and you do the book tours and everything settles down where else can you go to uncover what it is that really only YouTube you Tannenbaum have been able to uncover and I know that people it's not just me but people have read your books have suddenly seen like the lies to tell the book that there is more than one America and you uncovered in America that makes some people very very uncomfortable but it's there so where else do you think and or is there is there a need for anywhere else for you to go there think about it once I'm done with this one I was think about it you need to learn a new language learn Russian yeah maybe or Mandarin go to China exactly I don't know yet we'll see about it I have some more feels different kind of purpose and I'll check them and but first of all I need to get these data to tell us what's happening now because you publish in a few different languages at once and the end of 2019 the end of 2018 the book is coming out in Ybor in Israel in January come out in there in February in German and then a few months later by September anytime between tempo and September
