Rejuvenation: Our Inheritance

this is Eve Harrow and you are listening to rejuvenation on the Land of Israel Network it is August 11th 2019 the tenth day of of fifty seven seventy nine and today the Jewish people are commemorating the loss of both temples this is even though the Ridgid the real fast and the day is the ninth of of because it fell in shabbat then it's pushed off until today as the day of mourning we do not mourn on Shabbat so it has been as far as we know two thousand six hundred and five years since the first temple was destroyed in Jerusalem one thousand nine hundred and forty nine years since the destruction of the Second Temple and fourteen years since the destruction in my lifetime of Gush Katif in the expulsion of the Jews in 2005 from their communities do I compare that to the structure destructions of the temple obviously not on a national level but on something that had started happening on the 10th of of something that I experienced because I was there I'd moved down to Gush Katif that last summer with my youngest two kids and we were there and with some of the my other children until the very last day so that tremendous sense of grief of helplessness of destruction of watching Jewish homes being destroyed that is something that I can relate to through my personal experience and that pain has not gone away and so this time of year seems to have a lot of that a lot of the destruction a lot of the faith a lot of the questioning keeps coming back to the questions to the why why why so in their 1990s I worked for a while for a rev bending alone he at the time was at the minister of tourism he had a great group of people that were working with him one of them was your Florrick who was really it was the first time that I was exposed to somebody who was doing extensive writing on a very high level about the situation about alternatives about the idea of taking apart unruhe and of the things that people are now talking about and this was after Oslo was signed but before he had the expulsion from Gush Katif when we were appeasing and we were doing things that we now realize in hindsight were so wrong because we weren't understanding the mentality of the people that we were living with here anyway we've all heard of U of Surak in the last few days because he buried his son on Thursday de Vere Hashem become dumb all who was killed not far from where I live I he had been killed without seeing who killed him and I thought to myself wow what an Abba what a father like we when his parents we try and protect our kids and we we kid ourselves really we it's not it's not possible we do the best that we can and we we skin the grapes and we cut up the hot dogs into little tiny pieces so they shouldn't choke and we do whatever we can to keep them safe but ultimately we can't and but here he's hoping that even at the last second of his son's life he he didn't see the face of evil that he who apparently from all reports was really a very pure soul very good person maybe died not knowing not knowing the dark side not knowing he's personally the evil that lurks so in so many places not just here in Israel in so many places in the world that we have to keep turning the light on higher to keep at bay but his family ready know that his maternal grandfather was that's a value of hurling I remember when that happened hiking in the area of Joshua's altar and of course what happened after that was that mounts a vowel was cut off to Jews and if I want to go there when I want to take people to Joshua's altar I have to go with permission from the army and we have to have a special Jeep that accompanies us and that's also part of the pattern of of not doing things maybe the way they should be done in terms of showing strength that if a group of hikers is shot at and they had permission to be hiking there if a group of hikers is shot at then that area shouldn't be close to the hikers it should be the people who shot at them and the schlemm which is the town next door perhaps parts of that town should be destroyed or the town made smaller so that they can't get there just like today the last reports and maybe they'll change is that Jews are not going to be allowed to pray on Horeb I on the Temple Mount so there's something that is essence wrong here with punishing the good people and literally with getting with letting others get it get away with murder so I mean having said that we're also much safer because of our security services who find the terrorists and are able to stop the terrorism the vast vast vast majority has stopped way before it happens so I'm not blaming the army and I'm not blaming the security services but I'm thinking that maybe the people who make the decisions are going about it sometimes maybe too often the wrong way rabbana a lon for whom I with whom I worked and had met you officer like so many years ago was later fired by arielle Sharon so that he could have a fake majority and then go on with the expulsion of course Qatif in 2005 in probably what is the nadir of Israeli democracy so um it's kind of a pattern I suppose that you could say I was um last week it was very busy and very intense week I made time though to learn some Torah there's a terrific program at McClellan Hertzog you know lunch food during the nine and one of the tour lessons that I went into was review of me done and he was talking about the difference between Kazuki and the the said that is Keauhou Jerusalem doesn't get destroyed in - 701 nor does the temple it's destroyed 115 years later by the Babylonians and receive Kell and he goes through a whole lot of reasons also Hezekiah was sick and why he gets well even though the prophet Isaiah tells him that he won't but the bottom line and there were a few messages that he had in the lesson was that prayer is not enough and saying that you're gonna be better that your country is going to be better is not enough you actually have to take action and and fix whatever it is that's wrong in order to merit the good times but I was listening to Devere selects funeral um I wasn't there it reminded me also of the funeral of oregon's Bakr the beautiful girl that was so brutally murdered in the forest a few months ago in Jerusalem also a pure soul someone who wrote poetry and who wrote songs and and then it reminded me else of a funeral that I did attend eleven months ago and that was already fold and what's that what stands out to me about all these funerals is the singing the singing the the tremendous grief the not the the not comprehension of what's happened a little bit of fear I suppose you could say that's what's happened but more more than anything what stands out is the singing and it occurred to me that when the temple was standing we didn't have prayers the way we have it today the prayers and the synagogues that we have today are in the absence of the temple but in the temple we know that there was singing they would sing to helium they would sing psalms the LMI lot the Levites are standing on the stairs and they're singing and they're playing the beautiful trumpets and I think and I about the connection with the funerals and I wondering and I don't even I don't know if I'm forming these thoughts correctly so please don't get me wrong but the people who are killed are they the sacrifices are these not sacrifices for peace as we were told so many years ago when busses were blown up by the terrorists oh these people are sacrifices for peace what a lie what a horrendous thing to say to a nation when our sacrifice is in that way but somehow is there like some big tally somewhere that has to be filled before redemption really comes and I are the people and so it seems that it's the best people it's so many of the best people and that their funerals and the singing at the funerals that in some way this is as close as we're going to get to the temple not the synagogue's but the funerals of these fine people the the lights that's just snuffed out by the darkness by the most evil people on the planet and the reaction that we have which is a spontaneous reaction nobody's telling anybody the funerals what to do but the singing and the faith they comes through no matter what that in the midst of this tremendous and overwhelming grief there's still a sense of there's a plan God has a plan and we have to keep the faith no matter no matter what I was among other things that I was doing last week or the week before was guiding from momentum and I've talked about that and the difficult place that we go of course is Yad Vashem the Holocaust Museum and before we go in there and I speak to the women about the fact that it is going to be sad but it should be sad but then we come out and we come out to Jerusalem and we come out to the joy and that and that we live with that here in Israel with that tremendous emotional tension of the great grief and the great joy but one of the things that I always tell people before I go into Yad Vashem with them is to take a look at who else is there like you know when I see nuns and the church was a major fail during World War two so what are they thinking but I always tell them listen for German listen to hear if you hear a German spoken in Yad Vashem because as awful as it is to be the family of victims what does it feel like to be the family of perpetrators so here we were and it was uh it was it was not last week it was the week before we ran the ad for sham and I was taking the women around and I saw it looked definitely looked like a group of dignitaries and I went up to someone who was clearly one of the bodyguards and I said who's here and he said Germans not just any Germans though the head of the German Navy was there so I told that to some of the women who around me so wasn't just Germans it was the head of the German Navy it's someone who's responsible for protecting Germany but also maybe for protecting other countries or for making sure that that bad countries don't get out of hand so what does that feel like to be the head of the German Navy and to come and lay a wreath Amy I'd fish em so the morning that I found out about de Vere sofex murder I had to go to Jerusalem and I parked in in my Mila mall just outside Jaffa Gate and underground parking and as I was locking up my car a beautiful big black very expensive SUV came and parked in the spot next to me and an Arab woman got out dressed very nicely clearly a wealthy woman and I looked at her and I thought does she appreciate living in this country does she appreciate the fact that even though it was clearly a core religion religion estuve hers who just killed an innocent boy for no reason other than they have a death cult religion does she does she realize that she's gonna walk around Jerusalem now Noah's gonna bother her and nobody's gonna say anything I'm gonna I looked at her and I hoped that maybe maybe she was part of the solution and not part of the problem did she get did she sit her children down that morning and say to them this is the wrong thing to do this is not how to worship Allah does she have any impact whatsoever in her society so that the scumbags who do the things that they do in the name of Allah maybe one day we'll stop and all these thoughts are going through my head and and I think well as bad as it is to be the family of victims what must it be like to be that family to be the family of slum which right now and I don't care how many nice exhibits are thrown up in all these different museums about the fluffy side of Islam right now for most people in the world we associate Islam with death with terror with murder with jihad with nothing good what must that be like and maybe if I'd been in a different kind of a mood I would have asked her but I really wasn't in the mood I wasn't in the mood to talk to an Arab I don't care how nice if she was dressed and how amazing she might have been I was just really not in the mood I was hurting I was hurting for another family who will never be the same because their child who wasn't even yet 19 years old didn't get a chance didn't get a chance in the name of what and for what because they're going to lose there's absolutely no way that the Muslims are going to win they're going to cause a lot of us to bleed them more than anything else but we in Israel we know what's going on and and hopefully we will have leadership who will get us to the good places and get us to a place where we're so strong that nobody's gonna mess with us and we're not going to do stupid things like leaving Gush Katif and leaving her evil and so many other acts that we have taken in some kind of like desperate not understanding of the mentality here in the Middle East and what has to be done in order to survive so since I'm fasting today and I'm about to get really really crabby and very very thirsty this is going to be a short show but I did want to end it reading you something that my daughter wrote I told you last week very briefly that on Friday morning on August 2nd I'm hoarse Scottish of I was privileged once again be in the room when one of my grandchildren was born and I didn't know the name when I when I taped the show last thick I didn't know her name but I most definitely know it now and I think that my daughter's words her mother Elisheva are the best way of ending this show so the is the meaning of my new granddaughters name her name is maja Lee every Yael and i daughter wrote this last week in last week's Torah portion must say God tells Moses that the land of Israel will be divided and each of the tribes will receive a divinely determines in mahalo an inheritance or birthright now Holly's written an amazing 29 times in this portion excluded from inheriting the land is the tribe of Levi LaVey and within them the coin name the priest instead of a land inheritance the tribe of levy are given a spiritual mahalo namely responsibility of taking on the daily holy work in the temple in jerusalem the temple also called al from a biblical perspective it is important to understand that now challah is actually not really an inheritance inheriting the land is not something meant for one person or one generation to receive and do with as they wish it's more like the British royal family they are born into the crown but they do not own it they are simply overseers of that birthright so to the Jewish people do not actually own the land the land belongs to God and God can do that with it as he wishes it was and continues to be divine will that the land of Israel be given to the Jewish people as overseers this is an everlasting unseparable connection between our people in our land one which comes with deep responsibilities now Holly means inherit acquire in command feminine form you shall inherit by naming our daughter I'm still speaking I'm quoting my daughter Lisa by naming our daughter Natalie Arielle we illustrate the Jewish people's connection to the land of Israel to Jerusalem tell her about the Temple Mount to the Holy Temple and not just any connection but a fulfillment of the command to live in this land to protect it and build it for the current generation and generations to come we thank Hashem with the deepest gratitude to have merited in taking part in actualizing the 2000 year old dreams of our people and specifically during this time of year when were mourning the loss of our temple we prayed a merit to renew the ultimate connection the holiest place for the Jewish people in our Yael on a personal note ten months ago our friend Ari Fuld was murdered in the name of the Nationalists the goal of the people set to destroy the Jewish nation and sever our connection to this land a people trying to claim our inheritance to take our rightful Nicola Nicola Arielle includes ares name within hers re fold was the man who never questioned our connection to this land in our torah re was unapologetic brave and heroic to the very end fighting for his role in the jewish people he understood the idea of Anna Holly that settling the land is not a personal choice but a national commandment we bless our nathalie lel with the resolving heroism deep love and omona faith that was our ease there's a lotta shame she should carry herself with majesty and strength secure in who she is and what she stands for knowing that she stands on the shoulders of giants aware the 3,500 years of generations came before her she is but continuing the mission in the claim of Varna hala our rightful birthright inheritance our homeland my Ali's name continued to be a living blessing and inspiration to the Jewish people and I just want to say now it's back to Eve um wishing the Holly Arielle my new granddaughter long life and health and then her parents be able to raise her in peace and enjoy and that and that and that my people suffering and and the mission that we were put on this earth to do which is to shine God's light in the world we being allowed to do and that we get the strength to keep turning the light on higher a key thing the darkness it pay in the hope that next year at the 9th of of will be a day of joy and wishing wishing for the for those for the stoic family and others in unblocker who have sacrificed their children for this national
