Who's Who in Chabad #1 - Reb Mendel Drizin - Smart witted Chasid - Oved in his youth - Baal Tzedaka

welcome we're going to start this week between uh this week is between gimmel tambo's and your vegetables we're going to start a program who's who in chabad uh i've written four books actually five exactly six six works the first two were called who's who in lobovich they were published years ago like you know five to ten years ago and uh most recently i wrote four volumes so far of who's who in chabad men and i've written women also about 10 years ago and just recently uh a few months ago who's who in khabar the women so i'll talk a little bit about each program um a person or two and hopefully uh this will be listened to and and the family members have comments you'll send them in to me and we'll do what we can for future programs so the individual i want to talk about today is who passed away i believe in 2020 or 2021 was the son one of the sons of the vulnerable husset who was born in 1900 and learned in la babbage 1913-1914 and there's much written about him and one day we will also share his life story briefly that mendel was a good friend of my father's they learned together in lude in the yeshiva by mahayana and a mendel my father told me was a baker he was a student who was an avid he actually darwin he spent time in meditative chabad thought and he was an individual who um had a good head he understood well the text and was able to focus and meditate not just on my own experiences with her mendel in the last 10 15 years meeting him once in a while at crown heights is his um emphasis on gitas and understanding the kitas in particular understanding the khumashirashi and when he would see me he would say come you say you learned today i said yeah he said well i'd like to ask you something and he would ask me something and he you know he stopped me i didn't know the answer and then he went on to explain and it was interesting to see someone who is already you know in their 70s uh make a an icker a primary mode of uh his understanding and today the study of of of uh fitas and the commission rashi in particular also he was someone who daily gave sadaka to sanem to grooms who were uh you know needed funds for their marriage and many of them from eretz israel bacharam uh who learned the 770 and others who came to him for support in addition to that he did clandestinely quietly supported various institutions that ever told remendel to um to move to krohn heights you know buy property there and invest in supporting the community i also recall when rabbi boshibogoski would announce from the rebels beamer simcoe toyra one night the money went to mexico and one night at san francisco one night and went to the yeshiva temple under the rashad uh under the rebel but you know the rashad ran it and the other night was under the other night the money was for um america's americas so ralph milske was the one who who you know took the announced the people who bought the different uh ki buddhim the honors and um i recall vividly i i stood near that beamer that was one of my my place for hakufa's i stood up close and i recall hearing him saying remember he's in seven thousand dollar ten thousand dollars for taiwan uh naturally uh his father above rum had a relationship with rashad he worked for their shop in the earlier years as a as a fundraiser as someone who fundraised someone who went around he was as limitless he planted spirituality he taught where he came to chicago and houston and other places which he also told us uh later about his trips there that is and he was quite surgasmius and he reaped the material i.e people gave him donations for the yeshiva so remember was a a yid who lived and breathed crown heights since the i believe late 50s when he arrived till he his passing and uh i i want to say the same time that his wife hani happens to be a relative of ours the dolphins may should be well and only have arrivals young and sean davis and have given and success of course she uh remember back with everyone with whom she has coming but on a final note um remember was what you to me he emulated his father in the sense that he was a kluger husset you know he wasn't a fool he was sharp sharp with it uh nonsense really didn't have place in his um you know in his world although without you know putting people down and things like that but he he was um he was khabad you know khabar is a sharp kite uh sharpness but not kotzker shafters you know kotzker sharp kite is uh can be very degrading and too heavy too much and mental is balanced that way because khabad is balanced on one hand being a fool is the worst uh crime and sin in in the khabad lexicon in the chabad world at the same time the idea of of of being you know smart like street smart and and you know behavior smart and that type of mode uh he emulated so biscuit hashem help that we continue the programs and uh we uh talk about other laboratory system past of the past 100 years or so uh i mean even uh before that who are worth who worthy of uh knowing about in our world that we live in today have a great shabbos everyone and this is the program who's who in habaat
