Rebbe's Correspondence - Main mode of personal communication, personal - RC Dalfin

So today we're going to talk about the Reb's correspondence, personal correspondence that he sent to me over the years. Uh please understand that the Reb communicated primarily with his through correspondence. Although in the earlier years he had from 1950 to 1975 or so he had what we call yeas private audiences but uh the bulk of his communication was through correspondence with individuals of course at the fabangans the public gatherings that's when he spoke in public but we're talking about individuals. So just share a few few few few letters. Um this letter was written in 1974. It was written five uh five 5 days after my bar mitzvah in the month of Tavis 1974. And he addresses it on top to Dolphin Brooklyn. And uh he writes to the young man Jacob, which is my full name, my full Hebrew name. Sha, peace and greetings and peace, peacefulness in in regard to the notification that you are entering that you entered the responsibility of commandments that is the baritzvah. May God Almighty bless you that from the age of 13 to grow to the age of 15 as it says in ethics of the fathers to continue with diligence in Torah study in the revealed part of Torah and together with fulfillment of mitzvot commandments and may God make you successful to be aid a shamayim and alhamdulill which is the acronym for that is a soldier is is the and the lammed is lambd which means a pious one to be a kidic Jew. Urata Maya means a a man who has fear of God or for God and Alamden is a scholar to know to be scholarly in Torah and then is the Reb's holy signature which you can see here it's his actual handwriting M Schneerson the Reb's first initial of his Hebrew This was sent to our house and my father gave it to me cuz it's my bar mitzvah letter. That was in 1974 when I was 13. Going over now to some letter a few letters later on. This letter was written to the to him in 1985 after my wife had a a life-threatening accident in California where we were emissaries of the Reba in Marin County north of San Francisco across the Golden Gate Bridge. And um besides the Reba wishing her a healthy pregnancy and delivery and everything should be fine, he wrote a a PS in Hebrew the bottom where he instructs me, it's written to me, and he instructs me to have elacrity in all matters of goodness and kindness and not to procrastinate. Um the letter came back with a receipt for the donation that I sent for his work, his charities together with a the check that was I sent came back um you know so that was in 1985. And this letter really is the mission statement that the Reb opened up for me what I'm supposed to do besides everything else. is telling me your job is to act swiftly. Don't procrastinate when it comes to any matter of goodness and kindness. So fortunate, thank God that I got that direction and I try to live with that every day to do more and more of that. And and finally, the last letter is not actually a letter. It's an envelope stamped San Francisco. I made a dinner in the Embaradero, the Hayatt on the Embaradero in San Francisco for those that come from that part of the world. And the it's a pink and a pink cover that was I I sent it out to my supporters to, you know, to send in their registration, their check and all that for the dinner, fundraising dinner for Kabad of Marin County. And the Rebbit took the actual pink envelope and he inserted a dollar. This is a a brand new crispy dollar that he put into the envelope without any note, without any letter. And he sent it back. I still keep it till today. This was for our work on behalf of Hashem, God, the Reba, Judaism in the Bay Area in Maring County. we were called at the time Kabad of Marin count of Marin PO box that came in this that's part of um this pile of correspondence that I wrote to him. I kept a copy of of the letters that I wrote to the Reba in here and his responses. Some were in in letter form, some were just in a note where he wrote a response to on my letter and he send you a copy. They didn't give you the original, but I have that in here. So this is a very uh valuable and important uh correspondence for history and for our family and for the greater Jewish world, the Kabad world. um many interesting things that I asked the Reb about over my years, you know, when I when I was his emissary in in Marin, you know, and um I'm I'm thankful that that he took the time to answer. So today where one has a difficulty receiving a letter from the Reba, you still can receive an answer. You can receive an answer by a believing in God and believing in the great people that God sends to rule their special souls that sadikim that even after their passing they're still they are still here on some level. And if you identify with that and you understand that and you believe in it, you get answers. But you got to be connected. There's a famous saying, if one is bound above, one doesn't fall below. If you're not bound above, then you're going to fall below. Our job is to be bound above above. In this case, as and followers, supporters, you connect to the Reb and his teachings. There's no question that he answers you. Sometimes the answer doesn't come this way. It can come this way and this way, this way, up, down, right, left, and all around. Right? But it comes and you got to pay attention. You got to open your ears and be sensitive and listen. Listen to the call. Listen to the message because it's there. And when you listen, you will hear it and then act upon it. Don't just let it put it in the closet or go to sleep on it. Do something with it. And that's my message for today.
