I'm here with RAB angle who's been of the since 1970 and uh we're going to talk a little bit about your background your parents and um your early childhood and then your teenhood at laiva Montreal but you should be looking at me while you talk go ahead begin okay let's see uh as a young child I was born in a DP camp in 1947 in Germany in rberg and when I was 9 months old about 19 months old he moved to Canada he Liv in Canada for I'll go back to that a little later in Canada as a little boy my mother sent me to a little was around the corner little hater and [Music] was yeah I think it was can't remember his name but it was a little little hero we're talking now in the 1950s we're talking now in the 19 mid-50s you were born 1947 I assume right 46 47 47 I was born in 47 and this was like in the 1953 something like that right one day I came home crying and uh my mother asked why I'm crying and I said is the the P me and she asked why did re P you I told her because I forgot to my sister's today she got so upset she said after what we went through with Hitler not going let my boy heed like this and she took me out of that and signed me up in was like 6 years old I went through Thea all the way till after okay I want to ask which personal people like laab Shiva did your mother have a connection to at the time you know Rabbi handle Rabbi cream glass she didn't have any connection with anyone yeah r f was the principal right for sure she didn't have connection with green glass for sure she well his Green Glass came into my life later when I was right and he was right okay continue so you you you you went little boy she as a little boy and as a little boy in a little troublemaker uh I mean were you a troublemaker or you just saying that to be C I was a little bit of a troublemaker because when I was about I'm going to guess 9 or 10 years old n years old I used to love playing hockey and we used to play hockey in in the school yard not not a nice just on on concrete on concrete so I went early to play hockey one day my mother and the rabbi met up and the RAB said I'm very happy that son was at home and my mother said my son anyway I'm me can't really play hockey so I guess that was the end of my hockey career by the way um your mother and your and your father were they ofic backgrounds mother well they were of no not cic backgrounds but very their families were what do you know BS B well you said your mother was from Czechoslovakia Slovakia actually they were both from uhhuh okay anyway so my my father passed away when I was 10 years old right me you you now I stayed in y who were your rebies at the time my Reby was que Hood was I think my fourth gr R was my third grade Reby Rie nin was my second grade rby r k was my first grade Reby he was there I don't remember ever having okay so let's go now to your bar mitzvah Mitzvah was in B why in B because my father passed away when I was 10 years old yes my I had an uncle D B uhhuh so he and he had three boys uhhuh your cousins my cousin well they weren't three we call them uncles they wasn't Rel relatives okay so he said that I should come with him so I became his fourth boy uhhuh and then when it came by m time and so I D in B for a few years on shabas how' you like that was good was good it was friendly my uncle was very very nice to me and did the B ever visit Montreal during those years not that I remember you remember when the Saka rabit came to Montreal I remember hearing about it I don't remember I interacted in any way okay I do remember when the name he came later he lived in Crown Heights for a little while the scholet the scholet ever came to Montreal and Friday night I remember Friday night he D in Yesa and I was uh I got him there that night and I just remember teaching us I don't remember the words but I remember he T that song and he made a Tish do never made a Tish you don't know I I would if you made a dish I wasn't there right this is when you were already a teenager [Music] well I had my per even though I learned because it was another boy that had MIT the same day he was and I was always every I was in how far was the walk one through the other very close um block and a half two blocks okay two blocks something like that um what else would you like that so when you became by Mitzvah then 14 and 15 um you became more of a serious student in learning yeah number one I became a little bit frommer because our house wasn't really from in other words we I remember my father waking me up in the morning and saying I went with my father to every shabas and that sh was wasn't was remember was so your father he went to but so was fruit me at home laugh after we didn't my salvis or things like that but every is morning a mentorship but he he he and your mother they in in Europe they were from and you don't know I don't okay it was definely yeah I understand whether they were fully you don't know okay so so you became more from as you became teenager he wented Yeshiva and little by little I absorbed the Yesa life right and by the way were you able did you did you impact your mother and your sister at home from that from your lifestyle at the time or not um I don't remember I don't remember I know that oh yeah certain point and my sister was going to public school and we moved to New York and I got reg in Williamsburg uhhuh and then they asked me how I was going to pay for it I didn't even think of thing I want register so I came back to I went to's office I told him this is my dilemma I want my sister to go to J school I never thought about money and I was a kid you know so he said I'll take care of it and the next day he called me and said said she's in school beautiful what happened I'm not sure I assume that he took thect right so so for but listen when you came home from Yeshiva did you trust the kasas at home yeah yeah because around my house three koser bakeries four koser butchers and a bunch of it was we lived in a very Jewish neighborhood right Park Avenue Park was Park was parken right right we live in a very Jewish but we we can't push St right right okay do you remember one incident that was a little bit sad that was I came home from one day uh my father was not with me I'm not sure why and I came home and I rang the bell we lived on lived on the second floor like and others after after I rang the bell I had to walk up yeah to the second floor coming to the door looking down was my religious UNC the one who L took me to B this was on a shabas chabas okay but you you didn't know at the time you're not supposed to ring the bell or you don't care for whatever reason yeah okay I got it I remember him looking down and me seeing him and I said uh oh Uncle I ran away I I realized that I had made a mistake that never was her who actually who i d with for years so would you say that your uncle har will had a big impact on you during those years no question about he and his children and he uh actually he used to come out to California it was in Palm Desert or something so he used he used to come out to California once a year oh and every time that I heard he's coming out I went to Pal visit him just right because because of gratitude right and his last name was angle too no no his name was carel carmel herel Carmel herel Carmel and actually their name was climber and the I know a bunch of the people I'm not sure why changed their name to Carmel uhhuh but my uncle's brother his brother was in far he owned a take field store that's where your mother moved over she had to the far that's where she but um was was car no was a right right but he was he had a bir [Music] if anything small beer uhh his children became real hdic yeah he himself was realic but he didn't wear he wore like Rec on sh is no I right and towards the end of his life he woral right but he was Ian here was a from really from me I remember one incident I don't remember what it was but I was at his house and he was learning something and and he came across some Russia Tavis yeah Acron I think it was R he came across something that we T was everyday son right and he and he he looked at it couldn't figure it out figure it out was I think it was N eler I think so and I told him say what it was I think May been just a PPH but I remember saying him when he looked me said how do you know that I also remember an interesting thing then it was very very carefully saying to very very care this is probably I was 145 say you mean the she and so I basically knew quite well I don't remember when you say you knew the ti I'm saying yeah okay I just remember I don't remember how it happened or why I was in Bubba with my three cousins we called them cousins and uh somehow I came tell so I said okay test me so they decided they took a t open it read a few lines and I continued they were freaked out I remember that they were freaked out even I would be freaked out no but then I I M new children because a few years have passed I guess I must have been 16 17 and a new to right okay I want to stop now
