Rabbi Moshe Gurkov, Rebbe's Shliach Boston 65 yrs, dancing in street - Rabbi Chaim Dalfin

this is a tribute to the of the great known as we really lost aid I personally knew this Jew this kid I only met him one time but it left an indelible impression on me I was invited to Boston to lead a shabbaton at the Shalo house in the section called Brighton I believe and this is a property that he bought to augment the kabad activities in that area especially for Russian Jews and families Raa was sent by the either in 1959 1960 as a he was a there from 1960 till now 64 65 years he was born in Russia to the venerable kabad family the gurov that mayor gurov and others are names of known who learned in laich by theab and the family is very scholarly and very knowledgeable in tital learning Etc he was born in kov that's another connection to my uh family because my father-in-law sanski was born in kov as well he was five six years older than Aba and uh the family escaped with and finally came to I believe England and uh Thea came to America early on in the 50s he learned in 770 I heard that he was at for a time a in the same room as R Khan they shared a room in the dormatory I guess but let me tell you what why why I feel so touched and why the loss is so great we have we have few real left okay everyone's good it's all good but it's as the ver goes the saying goes everyone has a big mouth and everyone says they're the center of the universe Etc moov when I met him I was actually invited there by someone who worked for him at the time Rabbi rotkin who today is in charge of that institution and he's done a wonderful Shob and he has a school uh for Russian children and others so when I met him at the shabat he he he was very animated this was after giml tamas and he went through a a personal crisis in a sense of experiencing giml it was the first that I saw that really was impacted by the Reb's passing gimal Thomas and in talking with him I saw the Russian the the the root the The Source was totally in this man in an animated way and he spoke with zest and he spoke with life and I'll never forget I walked him outside of the building sometime during chabas I believe and he starts dancing with me he puts his hand on my shoulder and my hand goes and his shoulder and we do the traditional kabad dance and he starts singing which nigan a nigan that I heard from used to sing that at the end ofin he would get up and we make a circle and dance around and then he would make a coola we make a turn himself over somersault and we followed and that was we knew that's the end of the fa soov started to sing on the street on the sidewalk out of the blue caught me by surprise and he just was singing he wanted me to sing with him and we he put my hand his hand on my shoulders and we sang for a bit the nigan but it was so pure it was so authentic he he was was living with a different reality I'm telling you he was living with a different reality and this not only touched me it just brought the the the bage of 200 years to the to the streets of Boston okay the patriotism of Boston the universities of Boston with all of the B Bostonian virtues and some would say negativity and uh Harvard and MIT and salic Brookline my mon school and everything and all the kabad houses it's all great nothing compares to this one dance in the street with M gurov nothing it didn't last long it lasted maybe 2 3 minutes 4 minutes but it showed me that where is this man at he's elsewhere he's with Hashem he's with the Reb he's with he's with the alter so this tribute is very personal in other words I was hoping to see him again and to spend time because I could see I could spend with him hours and by the way the the uh retired professor of endrocrinology Dr Yakov Brower known as James Brower from McGill University of Montreal became Aid he told me this because of MOA gurov he was at I believe Harvard in studying and he somehow was introduced to the Boston Reb in Boston and they he was teaching him and anle Brower had questions about God and creation and the Bost and the people there didn't that wasn't their cup of tea and he sent them to to mov learned with him he told me and it opened his eyes and he answered spent hours and hours learning with him and teaching him and that was his gateway to and later he learned with the great of Mont but he started with mov okay now you have to understand this this Yan Brower Dr Brower is very bright very very bright and today know was so muchis but at the time he was in he he was studying to be a scientist at Harvard and he had a very good head you couldn't just you know give him an answer and he'll accept and say yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah shake his head he really understood and issues and gurov impacted him I was told with DAV for many hours shabas for sure and even during the week he was a great but together with that or maybe more importantly he was a of theer and the story that is shared that was in by the in the early 1960s I believe and the rebba told them that theb was talk talking his heart out to them how are not listening exactly this way that way whatever issues whatever was going on and the said let them learn I'm paraphrasing let them learn from ra and didn't hear this for himself but I believe it because that's who he was and um he had a wonderful family his wife should be well and his children and there's uh a friend of mine a mle gorov in storton Massachusetts and the other Sons daughters and um he was a great a great palish and uh because he was away for so many years people around here in Brooklyn especially the last 40 50 years are not familiar with him him and somehow I would have also not been familiar with him but somehow I went for that ChatOn and I met him and uh it it's um it touches the heart his memory be a blessing to bring the ultimate Gula which he he so much wanted and he so much spoke about and he spoke about the re and he spoke aboutus and he spoke about m in a heartfelt way that was real and genuine no isms Nock no politics no money nothing I'm telling you I knew this man from that one weekend I knew this man this man was The Real McCoy so and let him go to the door and beseech the to go to the door of mashiach
