Katamon #2- Shtieblech history from Arab expensive neighborhood to today - RC Dalfin

So this is the building of the in Katamon. This originally was an Arab Christian house. In other words, they were Arabs but with the Christian bent and they were actually the worst anti-semites semmites against Jews more than regular Arabs. And in 1948 they all ran away because we the Jews conquered this place. But we had to run we ran away from the old city. So people the government gave took over all these houses old houses and they and they all the uh refugees that came here from the old city could choose any place they want free of charge free of rent and take it for themselves. Anyway, this uh was uh taken by by a Jew Jewish family and they decided to make here a shul. They called it probably at that time just able not on top there was a apartments or one apartment private. There was also as I said earlier the uh the um talim had a few classes in here. This Mr. uh this rabbi Schlesinger who uh in 1948 after the they came here turned it into uh Ashul uh he was a kabad from Kabad Ga. There was another family here and his name was Lee Seagel also of Kabad descendant and um he davin regular here and he was I think from the the first maybe RV here or something rabbi. So uh the main sh here is called theam le uh room. Just speaking to someone local here who has been here for many many years. She told me the development of these entire neighborhood and um how it became slowly a place where many Anglo, Americans, South Africans, uh Canadians, English, Australians have moved into the general neighborhood. It borders with Kiryatel which is nearby and Talbia Kavia is not far away. Shahid. So um these have become a a mainstay in this uh in this area. Uh there's vignyanim around the clock. There's a little even uh place to buy shakshuka and different things. And there's a mikvah of course, a men's mikvah. So it's really a happening place.
