this tune goes way back maybe a few thousand years I don't know but a very long time and it's a traditional tune that's sung in Orthodox conservative reform Reconstructionist and anything else that's out there it's Universal some sing it with the tune with the words some sing without the words it's important to sing you know singing is very therapeutic not only you know we listen to music that's also therapeutic but when you can sing yourself meaning when you can just sing to God whenever and wherever you are you'll feel so cathartic so released from slavery from problems from stress we talk about stress reduction so we do yoga exercise punching a punching bag dancing I do that what I do that that okay walking and all kind swimming great singing song is such a integral part of the Jewish experience you know that in Judaism we have three three groups the kohanim the priests the leim the Levites and the Israelites right what was the main job the main service of the Levites in the Holy school like the rabbi the REITs in half here in the morning with the kids you're a champ got to compliment people you know what you got to compliment adults not only children you look good you look special I just um I just heard um oh that was funny on the way here at the at the JFK I'm waiting for the flight my phone need a battery so I went over to they have a place where you could plug in and there was a a young lady on one side and a young man on the other side and I'm and I'm sitting there plugging my phone in and I see that they're trying to make conversation okay so right away I I dropped my head so I don't have to disturb them but I got to be there cuz I got to got to get my phone charged and I hear and I heard this conversation you know my friends I'm not someone that I used to be very much out in the public now because of my career presently which is writing and researching you know I don't have that ability I don't have that need you know we all have different periods in our life what we do you know so I can't remember the last time that I was able to sit for 5 minutes and hear a conversation and they chose to speak you know Lou you know between each other they weren't and they knew I was there and that's a public place so she's 25 she's from Bermuda he's uh 23 from Manhattan and they're talking and they making conversation and you know very pleasant and I could see that you know that it seemed to me she was interested in meeting this fellow I sense that okay and he and he was you know I felt a little guarded but Pleasant and then in in just in the middle of the conversation and she says oh and you're very handsome you in middle of conversation and I heard him say he says oh thank you very much and the way he said it I felt it was sincere in other words it wasn't just flirtatious you know she seemed to be more of um what's the word a there's a gentleman that was B for a woman a lady ladylike you know and I think he was you know he's Manhattan comes probably for a a wealthier home and and all of that I whatever I got that sense I don't think he's as refined as she is okay and it tickled him people like to hear I'm handsome a guy likes to hear that okay and a girl likes to hear she's pretty or whatever the point is that praise is part of God's world praise overdoing praise is not good overdoing praise especially after if someone after someone dies and you're UL eulogizing them and you praise them with lies that is in my opinion disgusting wrong and spiritually excuse me dangerous why is because you're lying the person's soul goes back to God the Creator and you're not saying oh I wish he or she would be this or that you're saying this is who they were when in when it might be an absolute lie cuz they weren't that way and I happened to be at a listen to a um an event for someone who passed on and and I know certain things that were said by a few of the speakers were just not true and I confronted one of them not not publicly yeah privately and someone who I respect and I I said you know I I I knew the person and I you know so right away he's a big Rabbi so he right away said to me well he quoted me this source that Source I didn't argue I just left it at that but proper praise is healthy what does God do what is God want he talk about prayer going to the synagogue on r on the high Hol what does he want why does he need our praise why does God need our praise God is tickled by Praise God's Not a Human why does God need our praise you know what the answer is he doesn't need our praise he needs us to need to he needs us to give him praise you hear that he doesn't need the praise he needs us and wants us to praise him he wants us and part of the US experience is praise so if we don't praise him then then it's then it's it's a a crack in the relationship between God and ourselves anyway this is philosophy and faan is not about philosophy faan is about the singing the emotions the openness
