okay welcome
ladies and gentlemen to a very very
special event
choi milled rush together with the igor
rabbanim of america and khazak
and partnering organizations national
council of young israel
and torah anytime we have six amazing
rabbanim they're going to give us some
khizuk some inspiration for the month of
el of
that's going to be coming rosh hashanah
and it's really really exciting to
partner with these amazing organizations
and we really really really look forward
to the inspiration to the khizuk
it's a big honor for kazakh to host the
igor rabbanim today we had a meeting
a rosh koresh ello meeting and it was
really really uplifting and inspiring to
see all the rabbanam coming together
and uh my brother is that administration
we should continue
and to spread more torah and each other
we're about in the operation over here
at the kazakh headquarters with so much
amazing work happening with regards to
jewish kids in public schools
and the goal of the chimp to get every
single jewish child together with them a
jewish education
hashem over 850 kids have been
transferred from public schools to each
even the last three years alone
but there's thousands of more and
mentioned together with all the
rabbanimen all the organizations we're
going to work
hard messaging bring every single jewish
child to jewish education eventually
bring the guru
it's my honor to call upon the executive
vice president of the eagle rebound of
america
to give opening remarks without further
ado we're going to call upon rabbi
mending miragnik
we thank hazak we thank rabbi merov
for partnering up and hosting the egotis
bonham
on rosh haidis ello this is the
seventy-eighth year
that the iguitara bonham has done high
milled rush
but the mild rush this year takes on an
extra significance
the famous story told about a shliyak
sibor a talmud and yeshiva
that had a minig that every year he
would visit with his rebbe the rosh
shiva to discuss the yama nirayam
and he came before the rebbe and the
rebbe asked him
my entire atonement have you prepared
already
that's phyllis for yemen orion the
thomas said yes
the rebbe asked him a second time my
entire talmuds
have you prepared the the the it's
phyllis for yom and narayan
the talmud said yes and the rebbe asked
him a third time
the talmud asked but rabbi i told you i
prepared it
it's a mock source it's said cycle
there's said text
there's set no such i'm prepared for you
i'm in the right
so the rebbe said my entire talmud
you're missing the point the bouts
it's not about the set no the tunes
in the moxer the anthology we have the
prayer book
is rosh hashanah yom kippur
does not define the yids
it defines who the person is the holiday
does not make the person the person
makes the holiday
it's the meaning of the words it's
what's in the words to be darshan that
makes the yeed
are you allowing the your your
misfollower hears you darvaning
to understand who he is to change
last year it was the same prayer book we
entered twitch and pay
and we entered shin pay who would
imagine a corona situation
economic shutdown a situation that
crippled the world
will in the house arrest have we only
known what was going on with coronavirus
how different our prayer would be it's
not the nus
or the tumor familiar with it's how we
interpret that in the ibrah
and that's what the talmud the rabbitoh
the talmud
today this year was saying it applies to
everybody including myself
there is no human being that doesn't
have human frailty
it has to work on something we're going
to sunday for rabbi class the khashoggi
brazilian chairman who's also the emcee
of today's session
also about filler is how we relate to
this filler
we set our destiny how we how we proceed
that's precisely why in the shira i
heard this from rav 11 thousand cell the
big grinder of level the chief rabbi of
philadelphia
who said maybe 80 years ago we say in
the shira mimi nayu amis malay
that when the children of israel left
mitzrayim egypt
they were had walls walls to the right
and walls to the left
why is the verse saying walls to the
right and
walls to the left you see they were
surrounded by water
so the jew was told you defined the
world
there's not the ideology to the right of
the leftisms
but the yiddishkai to the absurd heaven
that defines who you
are that's the point of rosh hashanah
the point of yom kippur
the point of the drashas you know
conclude with the story
the prophet micah mika says um
okay israel says hashem the lord of
hosts
i am the first one i am the last one and
there are no other lord's powers besides
me
the question comes with any year is
shamayim in a shul
paul highly oh from the even going to
show with somebody
suspect there's another power of the
size according to sparrow who the lord
lord bless be he
so the mir is telling us we remember god
in the good times
and in the bad times but we forget him
while other times
and that's what the point of the drushes
are
and that was the message of the rebbe to
the talmud of the sribor
it's not the same familiar in the
baruch
with the carthage that we sing is what
message
do we take for ourselves to chart our
course
today by kazakh we witnessed something
how khazak is waking waking up people
giving them the ability to waken up
their neshama to make a good decision
and we're very honored and very happy to
be here proud to be here today
to support their great work which i'll
put in
is our solace in the fascists mama
should tell us the flashes
fighting a spiritual holocaust what the
germans yumakshama could not do
what the communist yamashima could not
do
assimilation can do and the battling
that
war and my estimation the only
continuity of the yiddish kite
is a proper kenneken education we're
also happy to partner up
with the national council of young
israel the eager tarabam has
a long-standing relationship with the
national council
up until they're moving the corporate
office from
west 16th through 16 west 16th street
we had our corporate offices for many
years
i believe our base and haravagoyan
shared office space next to each other
together with rabbi sol eisner
who the session is dedicated memory of
and we appreciate that relationship we
work with hazak and other
important organizations rabbi blanc
yehuda blank
who is our director of chaplaincy
and commission and external affairs is
constantly working on
projects to further enhance me
and we're happy to work today with hazak
and with the national council
today's session is dedicated
levi eisner
served faithfully close to 40 years as
as executive vice president of the
egotarobanum
his goal was one goal to marba
maraba covet shamayim his goal was the
rush to look professional
how to understand the world how to apply
terror principles to the world
i know the session is dedicated by
rebecca and feige
eisner and mishpakha and family we thank
you for your dedication
and one word we never could thank rabbi
eisner enough
rabbi isaac was the rebel who told the
talmud responsibility
and remember what what are you doing
not to sing the familiar tunes of
yiddishkai
not to make it mechanical but how to
inspire someone to understand
to wake themself up and a prayer
a tiller on young kipper
on russia to be a good filler
has to be a prayer that makes sense in a
time of good
like last year prosperity by touching
pay
or a year and pea aleph we need the
intervention from shamayim the lord's
interventions god's intervention
is barack's intervention the aviation's
intervention
to help us a filler that's humble
that's timely that in
a man stronger than a bear a lion but
he's weaker than a fly
a prayer to remind us we need to be the
bear
but please o lord please o hashem we
don't want to be the fly
getting defeated and we have to
strengthen kazakh
to let them do their mission to be the
great lion
in iraq and yiddish and shamanism saving
our souls
we dive in to continue this partnership
we thank the national council of young
israel

how to bring the best out in yourself
how you could inspire
through all of these torah and our and
our prayer is

but until then we'll work with hazak to
make this world
a better place for ali conjunctive
conjunctive
hey i have the great honor and the great
pleasure
to flourish sterling again yaakov class
presidium chairman of the egypt
harabanum who will serve
as the master ceremonies rabbi chairman
it's all yours
i just want to give a again a thanks to
rabbi miraginik
our executive vice president to
to rabbi rabbi monsishmirla our
administrative director
and to rabbi blanc the three of us here
and rabbi hamnick
i don't know where abba hamnik is but
rabbi hamnick is also present with us
okay and i want to give all of
our varun
all of them who contribute one way or
another
really a great yashikaya and they should
all have hatslacher for the coming year
i am going to differ from the other
speakers today
in that i am going to speak
about aha as opposed
to talking specifically
about now the
whole the whole concept of the
session of our particular session the
khaimer ledrush the homiletics
this is a session that is has been
developed
for the rabbi that the rabbi
who is joins in with this session it
gives him
it gives him material for his sermons
and that's basically what we what we are
doing today
now i have been dealing with the past
couple of years as rabbi of the
synagogue rabbi of a shul
my show my particular shul kahal binet
matisyahu
and i even as a as a columnist
a halacha columnist a torah editor at
the jewish press
i deal with various questions that come
in
one of the questions that i've been
dealing with especially
this year regarding tisha b'av and
regarding yamakipurim
is the question of fasting especially
in the in light of the corona virus
the current corona virus covet 19
that would be pandemic that we are
enduring at this point
i i've been asked i mean i
and i just immediately instantly when i
was
asked i did not have an answer but i
turned to this forum and i
found by an appropriately so
by the ham rabbenu avadya
avadya yosef zekhatzadek levroche
in his shylus uchivoice
where he was asked the question that
i've been asked
and listen to the question
abram is
a person who is ill and
the and we have doctors we're talking
about specialists
doctors who are expert in their fields
really expert and they tell him
or her that if he
slash she fasts it will
actually cause great harm
harm to his person
and the la now what happened
the khala came to the rabbi the khalil
came to me
khailu came to came to
the hama and came and asked the
following
said i i heard this from the specialists
and this is what they told me but i
i've never i've never broken a fest i've
never gone
a a yamakipurim or atishaba of
and not fasted and how can i possibly do
it this year i don't
i don't want to listen to them
i trust that hashem will take care of me
i am
i see me
these are the words so the question that
he said
is it mutha is it permitted
for this khaile to go ahead
and and basically
chuck the advice the advice or the
the warnings the heat and not heed the
doctors
and follow his own heart because he's
asking me to make a decision
and i'm telling you he's following his
own heart
that is the way i would deal with it
interesting is the guardian he
quotes stigma in humor the german humor
of ada daf peihei goes through
many different many different scenarios
to find
the proper possuk that tells
us that nephesh is
is is basically ko
mitzvah shepatira where do we have it
from
and there are various sukim that are
presented
one of them by rebbi kiva numerous sukim
presented
but each one has something
that has what we refer to as a pirchha
that i can question it to the point
that that particular verse that we have
brought
that verse will not apply but
shmuel comes along and shmuel
cites this passage in
mice in vayikra ushma is
you should keep my my statutes
and my my my laws my laws my statute
that you should do them and
and he expounds the
yamus mayhem you should not not die
from them so that and and this
is the way the rambam issues
in parrot base
and he says
we are not dogmatic people we don't do
things in a dogmatic
matter we do things in a matter of the
torah
the terror which is a terrorist cayenne
it's an ets
it's something that we are able to
basically to live with it and not
something
that it should cause us to die
islam this is the rambam okay
famous posik
its ways are the pleasant ways
of of of of peace
and and all of its paths lead to peace
okay
happy cursing what about the ham says
that and he refers to them as a picarson
who say osu
he's talking about basically that took
him
that you you realized there was the
there was the
mahlikis of the perusian
were those that kept torah not only
tereshabiksav
but terushabha al-pere that struck him
did not keep teresh about
so as far as they were concerned
if i just see the these simple words and
i don't
have the power of exegesis i cannot
do do basically a a drusha
to to understand what the torah is
saying
and just understand simple words they
are happy cursing
yes they follow tereshabiksav but
without
teresh of al-pere there is no
tereshabiksav
so what happens in such an
instance they could end up
literally literally killing someone
i remember a story from many years ago
when hatsala was a very new organization
the concept of hatsala one point
if someone was very ill taken ill
immediately
what was the only the only solution you
called up i'm not sure if we even had a
9-1-1
you called for an ambulance and many
people died
therefore hat solo was created a
wonderful organization
and had sola now is in many communities
throughout
throughout america it's a phenomenal
organization
and the question arose on shabbos
the hatsawa personnel drove to a
location now
they they and they were able to save the
person
now what do they do the vehicle
is at that location what do they do
there was some some i
i really don't want to tell you the area
but there was some that said
the vehicle stays there they did what
they had to do
and now the vehicle stays there
came out from this a great taco
because i believe there was one life
that was lost
what happened was another call came in
and guess what they were not able to
answer the call because the vehicle was
left
at that particular place and they had
walked
back so afterwards it was decided
that no heads forth not
only will you drive the vehicle there
but you will drive the vehicle
back to your location your home wherever
it is
and be on the ready for the next
call these are people the hot solar
people who mamish
they give over their complete lives i
have to give them
the utmost of credit they mamish save
lives
and this is exactly what the
is talking about and he goes further
and he says i'll bring you another
passage
he brings a possibility
and i will also i will
give you an account you will have to
account
for your blood i will i will
have to i will i will demand from you
an accounting on your blood what does
that mean that also means
that a person does not own himself
we are not the balabatim of ourselves
so he ends up and he does
bring others brings
he brings from the abnenaezer he brings
from
the evan ezra he brings from the ramban
he brings from rabbi mcluga
who it seems had a different view
their view was possibly the opposite
that a person the the doctor
is only someone who is given a certain
risk
but he does not have the the power the
power rests in the rabbani shalom
not in the doctor and this is his
argument
this this is their argument he
argues back he says
that we are not supposed to
to depend on an s that the rabbani
shalom
is going to bring forth an s
a miracle to save us just the opposite
we have to do ours and sometimes you
know what ours is
ours is that we have to follow
the advice of the rav and if the doctor
who is a mum said that you cannot
fast then the doctor is correct
and the rav will pass in accordingly he
will rule accordingly
that you cannot fast in this particular
situation
whether it was tisha b'av which is only
the rabbana
or even yamakipuram which is the arizer
obviously you're not going to sit down
and have a sooner a big souda
you're going to eat progress
you'll have at certain intervals you
will drink you will do what
exactly what what the doctors recommend
you will follow them and in
it will bring forth a referral to the
person
and the person will be able to dive in
that much
better even though you are violating
it seems you are violating one of the
anuyam
it's interesting that brings another
interesting
a very interesting in the chuva right
before
there was an indian at one time that
they would
sell they would sell the kibood the
anna to hold the safer torah
for call nidre it's very interesting
and and whoever had that
particular keyboard he would have this
huss he would have this huss to make the
bracha
yanu it happened once in a shul
that the person who bought it
unfortunately that person
was wearing na'alayim he was wearing the
lion shall are he was wearing leather
shoes
and everyone saw it and the question was
he's he's violating he's violating one
of the
one of the the five deprivations
of yamakipuram so what happens now
so his solution
to this which was the way we
ashkenaz do he said that
as he makes his
everyone should in tone but within
within
with an undertone this is the same
bracha of shahianu at the same time
so they are you'd say with their own
barakah
they are not dependent on his broker
and this way they don't embarrass him
because it would have been
abusha obviously he's someone
who had to be taught he didn't realize
so and he ends off on that one
and he says and i love the ending
they will each make the bracha of
sharianu
is
should bring forth a spirit
from from from above
from the the his holy environs above
lakh zora beethoven to return
in complete chuva complete repentance
then is care and we should be here we
should merit
together with all the base israel what
is the concept
in coal base israel and that is the
concept that not everyone
ends up in shul that is the concept of
kol nidrei
khalidre we say we we ask
we ask the we asked in in the
we ask for the permission of the yeshiva
shamala
we ask both we ask them for permission
to davin to to pray together with the
avraham
who are these avraham these avraham are
not the people that are in shul
anyone who came to shul is not a vrayan
he is a person who really is seeking to
do mitzvahs
avraham are those who are
those who are outside who have not yet
come to shul
we hope one day they will come so those
are the people
that are called base israel we're asking
them to join in with us
and emir zashem with that rabbani shalom
will be
native the hasimah for everyone
and in just like this year
tough shin tough shin pay which we
never in our life would have dreamt that
we would have had
a year like this because now we can
understand what our
fearless feminists are are going to ask
simply the killer
may the the this year come to an end
with all of its curses
and the year should come with all of the
new year of tough shin
pay aleph should come with all of its
blessings
and the miyetz hashem the rabbani shalom
should give us
a wonderful year and
and
[Music]
a community that i have to say
outlasted 70 years of soviet communism
fantastic many other of the communities
in the former soviet union jewish
communities
unfortunately did not survive and here
we have one
segment of russian jewry that we can say
has survived what is the
miracle of its survival
the miracle is the rabbanim
of the community who have such great
dedication
we are here today at the premises
of kazakh a phenomenal organization
that is promoting promoting actively
seeking out young children
if this would have happened at the turn
of the
not this past century turn of the
century before
turn of the 19th century into the 20th
century
it would have happened then america
would look a lot different
today but we have to go forward
and we are very very
very fortunate that today we have with
us
the rav harashi of the bukharian
community
who happens to be arav emil basin
brooklyn and he is a
phenomenal person a great
a great he's a great speaker he has
great torah
and he is someone that we at the igood
are very proud to have him join us today
in in our mid-rush and that is
moreno
israeli chief rabbi of the bukharian
community
throughout america and canada rabbi
israeli mage
[Music]
is
foreign
um
[Music]
um
foreign
[Music]
foreign
[Music]
foreign
is
foreign
is
for your kind words
this next speaker not only
is he one of my
colleagues on the presidium at the igood
but we go back a long time
we go back to our yeshiva days in the
mir yeshiva
both tell me them of the same rabbi
and we we had very
fond memories and fund
future together
and he's someone who has accomplished
so much in his community in the syrian
community even though he's a moroccan
the syrian community
has taken has taken for themselves
rabbanim from the moroccan community
who are tamid him of the mir yeshiva so
now you see the tent
this is the tent of the egodarabonan the
great tent that we are
i without further ado i want to
introduce my hava
rabbi dr hananya elbaz
who is a cover of the presidium of
khafre benesius of the egodarabonim
presidium member of the ra igood he is
rav
of the arch yeshiva congregation
and a talmud again as i said of the mir
yeshiva
and we are i am very proud to call him
to give us some khaimer ledrush
for this current year top shin pay aleph
there is to say we welcome all our
congregants our havarim
that kind to participate in the torah
and the
is our usual every year the good arab
name
already over 20 years that we are
holding
limut torah in every rosh chodesh
in the during the year and not only that
and high elu we hold usually for the
past
over 20 years
however this year
i would like to thank of course our
distinguished
and formidable uh vice president
rabbi masarajnik and his team
for organizing this beautiful meshiba
is asifa around practically all the
rabbanim
to be able to do it not to
not to forget what we do usually every
year
so this now i begin
my brush up very simply
the objective of rasha is to elucidate
the following questions
the ten days of penitence one i would
like to explain the significance
of what is the david
[Music]
what else means explains but what does
it mean
and also number two the relevance
of the multitude of videos
to make so many videos confessions what
so many
and i'll explain the meaning of malchiod
jihad and shothroad
and four why is rosh hashanah before yom
kippur
and vice versa as the rationale will
dictate
and what is the musa scale of all these
questions
and our idea is to be hazak
all the listeners
in the every place we know
that
that we have to go a good seman and
as a result
and therefore is that we eat certain
foods
vegetables or else in order
to break a barracad of the sema
this is a very very difficult to
understand
indeed the bioserve shalom
he was making this sadder of akhila on
the era code
in the foreseeable but the question is
you just bless on the eric before
because you are blessing on a legume
that you're gonna have a good good year
the magen abraham
in simon
also says
we should not have anything that is a
sharp vinegar and the mate frame on the
same simon
he says that a person should only eat
sweet things
however in the hergoth
he says because a person gonna eat
something good
this is has to do you're gonna have good
good year
and because if it if something bad
that for example select she's talking
going to disappear so what exactly and
more furthermore the hatan suffer says
he eat
marin marin why
because we're in irish island
but i tell you i have also another word
in arabic
which is zetter which also
also are we going to have also the same
idea
or you could say in every language you
want so
that has a meaning of tough of good
so what is the idea of eating and saying
good or bad
for every good year here i caught
vegetables are we going to be because of
aiding it
are we going to have it
he claimed ever says he cannot mix
the purpose of this
to show our complete faith
and compliance with
that he is the one that commanded
in other words the immunity that we have
by saying the brotherhood
the the vegetable is only a simmer is a
sign
and also others say that in the
hachameme
when they tell us to make this brah
there is a sword
that we have trabuteno told us that
one may make brahman even on a
vegetable which is materialistic we are
able to pick up
this to a spiritual height and i say
maybe this is a
one of the reasons that we say it in
order to confuse the satan
he said the jews are eating
so he he leaves us alone by this
he says well they are only eating so so
what's so important about that
now that we establish
let us try to find out what is the semen
of this new year
tough shin proof so i
say the cement of this lethova
rashete vote what we have over here is
alef koff
which means
not pedutenu or i choose
sim cats pedut arceno of course
they are not in the uh order but it
makes
our a future and shiman
pretty good borehole will will
definitely bring us
the pedutano the redemption in
israel will be free in alice israel
and every place now ladies and gentlemen
let me begin to answer the question that
i mentioned
before before
you know if you ask any
congregant any jew comes to shu and ask
him what is the most important
bakasha to hashem during the governing
of yom
what the average person will answer what
we are doing
well of course you'll say look at having
a volcano he looked at everything
and most important thing the answer will
be life
and give us health parnassa yeshua so
forth
but it looks that our hazard did not
think so
how we see that during the this
all the time we mention life of course
life is the most important
but according to the our meme
this is not to be so why what's the
proof because if a person
forgets shimoni este and not said
these this additions he doesn't have to
repeat
but if he is he did not say
and instead he said then
the the the idea is that he repeats it
how come he repeats it i mean is it
that our uh
asking our givers life is not so
important
but hakami put the emphasis on
many hakados what does that mean she's
rabbi
baroslotskin that we what we're doing
is we are proclaiming
all the time we are saying is
meaning with this declaration we will be
safe
to all the quebecois
bring us to the idea will dissociate all
the other things
let us delve to comprehend one gemara
igmara says
that what is the concept of maltriot
how does malfiot manifest itself during
the governing
our traffic lord and the during the army
mirror
and tishmania our mean had to recite
the capital 27 which is the david hashem
hashem is my life and my salvation
and the midrash explain this is
referring to rosh hashanah
which is uri and yom kippur which is
to receive special light on rosh
hashanah
and a special salvation on young people
what is exactly this perush of light and
salvation
and maybe young people we can understand
is a salvation but because we meet
kaparov
and so on but what is uri on rosh
hashanah light
how light is referring to rosh hashanah
and how does help us
in order to understand the malkiot
that even though shalom there is a deen
from
still is not sealed
which means
kabbalah which is
which is to give us the idea
in this particular day he gives us a
special
tissue now as the ramban
why like
is closer to us during this this days
of assamese so it is definitely clear
now
that rosh hashanah and
which is the first day of assad
that that we are like
is in the most appropriate where it will
accept our traffic load
now we have to ask the question rosh
hashanah
is part of the asylum so
how do we do this do we have the doing
we have we have we have
but is nothing mentioned
of as far as so how deep
as a matter of fact to some it's
considered like a yonto
and not only that why should we have you
yom kippur after shashana
meanwhile before young
so what is what is the meaning of that
yeah but if i don't interrupt if you
just move your camera just a little bit
back so your
say your whole picture is in there yeah
perfect
are we are we good now yeah we're good
just continue yes
in order to answer our question
let us quote on another demo the grammar
says
that we should expect the kingship of
catholics
which means to say by mentioning
fraud will be that kadushwar who
will answer us beyond foreign
first question i have on this is very
simple when it comes to zika nothing
which means to say that when we come to
the shofar we don't need
any amira any sign what does that mean
so we have to understand also what is
the idea
in rule it
the question is a simple there is twice
a day for 365 days
we are mentioning the the idea
of kabbalah we say
israel morning evening
and
it means that hashem is telling us
especially
today on rosh hashanah you should be
making
because we are coming close to hashem we
are all
illuminated but
and we build a tikkshari we built a
relationship strong relationship with
barry holland
we begin to see the light so
ahead
so now we understand that rosh hashanah
the first day of australia
is by itself a day of tesuga
even though we don't mention anything
the plea
may be ortano closer the idea
that rosh hashanah is there to bring us
closer
to hashem and to do that
then we begin to understand the extent
of what is ahead but the most important
is that through
the idea of uri
who are able to understand the issei
with this we can understand now very
simple
why rosh hashanah is before kippur
because
since the uri which is hashanah he is
going to bring us to ishay
because will the light that we gained on
rosh hashanah
we come to understand what is the
salvation of israel
and there is what we see what we say
in the in the torah in the korbando
session it says
we are becoming not just bringing
we are now a new person because we saw
the light
and there is this is the essence of rosh
hashanah
that the ore that you bring to hashanah
may galileo bring us to understand
and can do it to bring ra von ortego
how to understand them and to see very
very clearly
what are we to do on yom kippur and to
be
hosed to be housed
so one thing we see here now that rosh
hashanah
is an instrument by which we see the ori
and that ori bring us to kippur and
there is another
interesting aspect that also brings us
closer closer
the magee
used to go to bless someone sometimes he
blessed them
on but in hebrew and lashona kodesh
and sometimes he was may blessing them
with arabic
so the kumara asked don't we know that
aramaic is not understood by the malachi
so what's the point of saying in aramaic
answers in this army command
that he makes abraham he has to sit in
hebrew
so the malachi will understand however
by the holy
one a person is sick since shechina is
because there is anyway so automatically
he doesn't have to mention in other
words
we don't need the assistance of the
mullah because
there so it looks like again
people when we begin with the targum
they are made meaning that to us we we
can circumvent
the idea of the malachi into our sister
we don't need them we are
we don't eat we don't wear shoes
so
from the torah and this why here
hashem you're going to have the teshuva
what you are in front of hashem what i
mean in front of russia
in other words besides the trishula that
you
the assistance and the health and the
aid we got
with the uri that we already are now
seeing
now we can see hashem
explains what why it
person makes a head if you put a very
black stain on his clothing now when you
meet teshuva
you are trying to erase to efface the
blood stain
however when you cut away the
bloodstream there is
still a gun there you took the nail out
but when you took the nail out above the
tissue there is a hole
left over there how you take out that
hole
this hole you take in order to take it
out because
if hashem now we have to go further
in order to erase it completely and this
is the pirouette
the alveolar and you'd even meet those
what does that mean overall pressure i
mean like he pass over
he takes it out completely like rabbi
says
him and he brings the supreme
now we understand what we are saying so
many times
11 times during yom kippur we say
we do in our head why so many times
one time should be sufficient we have to
repeat again and be then
you have to understand that even though
you made the first
but with more more to feel lord we are
still cleaning the beginning
after we washed still a little bit of
stain stay there
and then with this idea of keeping the
video then we are able to clean up even
more
and that's what the rambam says
the same
what did he do better meaning god
like we mentioned that ali did each time
you make a video
you are trying to eradicate from the
shoresh
from the root the stain that are there
and this is what we take rules and i
that we say
not and float now we met
and we made the test to show us so great
that now we are very sureful it doesn't
say talk
left why because at this point you know
we already came to the idea that heaven
shall cause so far
the voice of the shofar must speak
for this this by itself is
giving us the idea of being boring
so we add the tapara here we don't need
him
we already built with the all offish of
ori
and the salvation of ishii we came
already to the point
that we don't need anything else we have
already
closeness to marijuana now
we can see that after rosh hashanah
automatically we come to another slammut
we have the mitzvah of ethrogen sukkot
is this is a mitra of the eighth robe
the coding
we are coming to srimut what's the sri
man of that is we say shimano miltai
rook robotic
all the ideas of shlemuth are already
inside the concept of the mitzvah of
petrol can you believe that
so what is the idea the idea that is to
give us a chance
right that we are being closer
and understanding the concept of tesuga
and by this will give us more and more
now let me ask
to come and to save us because we are
now
in a in it in a world in a very very
dangerous times and we ask
is
to save us and to eradicate this
and to that i like to read math
he says the pasuk says
why i am beloved by you when you listen
to ko tahanu and my supplications
meaning even though i'm dalla i'm so
poor
on the mitzvoth still is good
devotionality
so that's what the kumara says so the
question is
because we are soma dalim of mitzvot
salvation on the contrary if you don't
have any mitzvot
there is no salvation so he brings the
mara in sanhedrin
says
so it looks like that of course we don't
we don't expect to come to mashiach on
the entire world
of sinners as we shallow ella we
expect that with bizarre
and the door that kuluazakai that
everywhere we are good
and the question is how can we be
expecting
to adorn which is hundred percent well
we saw
hasidim
they were there and they did not have
the
the hood of having dorsey
the ana and we're gonna gonna be jose
that we're gonna have the door she calls
her high
all right the army fashion they say we
are
on uh comparing to our uh our name
and sadiq but we are a on the
shoulder
of the dory so we are closer the trouble
is
[Music]
in also those are the front kites oh
who don't need them in ammon we could
see that today in the fight between the
haredi the nonharedi the midnight
and the hoshi so foreign
we are saying now that we are still
trying to do all the mitzvot centurion
meaning that even though people are
laughing at
us and are trying to
fight us so far afiloahi
we are able to perform the mitzvot like
the arizona said
that in his time it was 500 times
difficult
to be an italian
so they were able to have this idea to
be able
to to reach wariola but we but us
nothing
you have to come and help me and take me
out from this galoot so
still we are able to ask that
you should come to us on the contrary in
other words because we are so long
then we are we are more
now that we are in this time of the
desert
who are surrounded by 300 million of
arabs
we are surrounded by all kind of
anti-semitism
and we see that our torah is trying to
decrease
however we are seeing that the mutorah
is gaining momentum we have
we are asking you we are trying to do
the best so
i said kids we are kids on anu we are
doing with sonofa
we are trying to be mature we are now
explaining even the time
of pandemics we are still learning torah
the loti even we are so low
so we are asking that it should bring us
the magnifier out
for your masterful words
at this time i would just like to review
a little bit of history
we are here in america and
i i've heard it said i've heard it said
many times for many people
history starts from the day they were
born
and ends the day they die but that's not
true
we base ourselves on our history
our dairies all the doors that were
before us
all those generations the famous story
of rabbiakov kaminetsky was on an
airplane with his son
his young son his youngest son youngest
son
rabbavron who i remember very well
and there was a professor also on the
plane
and the professor couldn't
control himself he goes over to
rabbiakov and he says
he says i see your son is doting upon
you
he's taking such good care of you
my son doesn't do anything for me
and rabiacov kaminetsky he looks at him
and he said ali will explain to you why
because my son
understands something that your son
doesn't understand
or i should say your son might
understand something that my son doesn't
understand
your son has been taught
through the means of science and
evolution
that man comes from monkey
so every generation that
comes forth one after the other
is greater than the generation that
preceded it
because we're getting that much further
from the monkey
but we follow the torah we follow what
god
says and god says that every generation
that that comes forth is weaker than the
generation
that preceded it not as great
every generation going all the way back
adam harishan was the itseer kapov
he was the hand-crafted person of the
rabbani shalom
were both literally created by the
rabbani shalom
he was their mother and father
and so we in succeeding generations
we have to develop working
literally our task is to develop
based upon all of those previous
generations
we are so proud that today
we are fortunate to have with us
rabbi jonathan sachs baron
of old gate in the city of london
who is well
different reckonings he's either the
11th
or the 12th chief rabbi of the united
synagogue
of the united kingdom and the
commonwealth
this is a rabbinate that goes back
two centuries it's a phenomenal
rabbinate
and it's been developed and it goes back
from great people
and it continues continues today
and rabbi sax is not even the current
chief rabbi
current chief rabbi is rabbi ephraim
mervis his successor
and i actually i have to say rabbi sax
i watched the invocation that
when you when you brought forth rabbi
mervis to succeed you
and with the participation i saw of the
prince of wales
and i it was a very beautiful event and
i know that today
you joining in with us and giving us
beautiful words homiletic words words of
jewish
will add significantly to our event this
evening
thank you so much and i want to present
her up sex
it's an enormous privilege to be
addressing you the members
of the rabbinical alliance of america
and the
iguod harabanim and i want to thank you
three times over
number one for your incredible work with
your kihilo
during these really but really difficult
months you have been sustaining their
spirits
giving them personal guidance being
there for them
at a time that cannot have been easy for
any of you and
i want to thank you for that number two
thank you for arranging this meeting of
mines so that
together we can inspire ourselves
to hopefully inspire others and thirdly
simply to say how important your work
is devka at this time of social
distancing of face masks of
goodness knows i don't know if you have
the same prohibitions in the states as
we have in britain but
there's no communal singing yet allowed
in places of worship
and all of these things make matters
very
very difficult indeed and it is our job
your job our
our job to do what we can to raise
people's spirits so the first dvar i
would
like to share with you is the importance
and the difference it makes when you
raise people's spirits
the terror is explicit about this
when the banay israel had to fight
against amalek in the minibar
the terror tells us that kasha yarim
moshe that yadav israel when moses
lifted up his hands israel prevailed the
cashier
do the hands at moses have this magical
property that they
make or break war no says the mishna the
explanation is simple when moses raised
his hands the people looked up
to heaven and were inspired and that
filled them with strength and energy
to beat their most difficult opponent
but when israel looked down then they
became demoralized and
a demoralized people is easily defeated
is a wonderful story i don't know if you
know but it's super and
one worthy of telling your congregations
at least i've found it fascinating
um there was a spanish
amateur archaeologist in the 19th
century called marcilino
de sotola who in 1875
began investigating and examining
the altamira caves in spain
uh he was hoping to find you know it was
kind of the age when
international exhibitions were showing
fossils and things like that and he
thought
that in these ancient caves he might
find something of interest in the ground
and
for four years he examined the floor of
these caves
and found nothing in 1879
four years on invited his nine-year-old
daughter maria to join him
on one of his sunday outings to the
caves
well he was busy scrambling among the
rubble of the cave
when his daughter said daddy why are
there cows
on the roof and he looked up
and there on the roof were paintings
of bison this was the first
ever discovery of
an ancient cave painting
so much so that once he made it known to
the world
people simply refused to believe their
age they thought it must be a modern
fraud
but the fact is here this very
distinguished amateur archaeologist had
been in the cave studying it for four
years
and yet it was his nine-year-old
daughter who made the discovery of all
times
why because he was looking down
and she was looking up sometimes you
really need
to look up
a long time ago i used to teach
philosophy and my hero
indeed i lived in rooms just above it
he'd be i mean the ones he used when he
was alive
my hero was wittgenstein somebody once
asked wittgenstein what is your
role your task in philosophy he replied
to teach the fly the way
out of the fly bottle
let me explain what he means what he
meant
it's very easy to trap a fly in a fly
bottle you
have this bottle with a rather narrow
top and you put something very sweet on
the bottom
the fly smells the sweetness flies into
the bottle
then when it's eaten all at once tries
to get out and
bangs its head against the bottle again
and again and again until it flops down
exhausted dead
the fly never actually philosophizes
that if
there was a way in there must be a way
out the one thing the fly
fails to do is to look up
so it seems to me that uh moshe
rabbanu's greatness
was that he lifted the spirits of the
people so that they
could win their first great battle that
they had to fight
on their own and the task of faith
and this you have to explain to people
is to teach
us all to look up because if we look up
[Music]
lift your eyes up
i lift my eyes to the hills faith
lifts our vision and when we are
lifted we can defeat any adversary
that is my first bracha to you and my
first device
the second one has to do
with uh what i personally learnt
from the pandemic and i want to lead
into this by way of a divadora
because there is a very very
extraordinary gemara
in rosh hashanah bait
which says the following token um
wants to know why when we have blown all
those columns
um before the we go back
and blow further co-loads of course the
difference she thought among the region
in how many extra colored is it 12
according to the palette
so what is it 30 is it as we do it now
uh
rounded up to a hundred gold but the
fact is the quara wants to know
once you have blown those first 30 notes
you have fulfilled
the mitzvah so why on earth
once you have fulfilled the mitzvah you
go ahead and do it all over again
only the first time when people are
sitting and the second time when people
are standing during
shuts the repetition of the music
replies in an answer that is
more enigmatic than the question
in order to confuse satan well
look you know the gemara you know the
shitotu of
him as to what it means to confuse satan
but it is
nonetheless a difficult gemara is satan
that easy to confuse um
is it really surprised when people say
or do something twice is it surprising
when we say ashrae twice
is it surprised when we say creation
twice during
chakras is it surprised when we read the
portion that we read for maf dear twice
i mean
how on earth does this confuse satan
i would suggest a very simple answer
but actually a very deep answer
the tequila the mushaf
the flying show for the first thirty
nights
we are fulfilling the mitzvah
as jihidim as individuals
in theory every single individual
is commanded to listen to the shofar
and indeed could be commanded
it could as heche mitzvah to blow
chauffeur
indeed it is only that reason that we
have in this case gizera de robert that
shamayavirano
[Music]
that we decree that you don't blow
chauffeur anchovies in case somebody
carries it four
cubits in a public domain that would
only apply to a mitzvah that it
devolves on individuals when it devolves
on the community we're not worried
that the community will forget that
there you can't carry full
qubits in the public domain so
here we have a mitzvah that applies to
everyone
and that is how we fulfill it in the
first 30 notes
however what happens in the tequilas de
mourmat
and the techias that take place during
the reader's reputation of music
is not a mitzvah of yahidi at all
the reader's repetition of any amidah is
done on behalf of the community not on
behalf of individuals
now there's a that says that
is animation but that's a different
the fundamental shita is for the sake of
the community and in any case music
is always but sibor that's why
the mishnah says ain't philip
an individual does not uh
mussafe is not an obligation on
individuals it's an obligation on that
sibor
and that is what confuses satan
every single person in shul has
heard chauffeur has sighed and sobbed
every single person in shul has cried
out to god
every single person without exception
and yet they come back again not to do
it
again but to do it again as a sibor
to say rabona shalom look you have heard
our cry but even if
we as individuals do not merit your
forgiveness
forgive us as a community that
is something that confuses satan because
satan can
mislead and tempt any one of us as
individuals that cannot confront us as a
community
as a community we are more powerful than
satan
and that is why chuval betsy bour
is more effective than any other kind in
fact the classic example of chuva betsy
bour
according to ramban in his country on
7th varim is
ezra and merchamia gathering the people
together to renew the government
at shaharma watergate in ancient
jerusalem
which took place as you know on rosh
hashanah
so that is the incredible thing
that even if god doesn't forgive me
he forgives us that
even though i have prayed as an i
i'm still going to go ahead and pray as
we
there's a catholic historian paul
johnson wrote a book a magnificent book
called the history of the jews one of
the finest
of its kind i've ever wrote and i wanted
to know
how come a catholic spends that long
studying jews and judaism
what led him to do it what did he learn
from it so
he came to our home elena and i gave him
dinner one in one evening
and i said paul what what did you
learn about jews after all your study of
them
and he said well i'll tell you he said
there have been two kinds of cultures in
the world
they've been individualistic cultures
like contemporary britain and america
they've been collectivist cultures like
china like
former soviet union he said
very very few have managed both in fact
nobody has managed both
except jews they have managed both
individual responsibility
and collective responsibility they
manage both the i
and the we i was very moved by this
because what paul johnson was doing in
effect was
restating in his own language what
used to say anili mili
if i i'm not for me who will be but
kashani let's me
melanie if i'm only for myself
what am i and um
that is the balance
that we absolutely need in our lives and
the balance that judaism
gives us and people notice this
two years ago i was doing a series with
the bbc on morality
one of the programs was on artificial
intelligence
i don't know if you this is subject
you're interested in
but the greatest artificial intelligence
company in the world
it's called deep mind sport many years
ago by google but it's the
famous artificial intelligence
group that have you know achieved all
the great breakthroughs
in ai and i was interviewed for the
program
uh the co-founder of deepmind called
mustafa suleiman
mustafa when was brought up in a muslim
family at the age of 13 became an
atheist we had a wonderful conversation
which you can
hear on the web and a few days later i
was surprised to receive an email from
him
saying yeah rabbi sex do you think you
could take me to
one one day i thought this is a new one
for me taking a muslim atheist to show
anyway i did he came to show uh he came
to us for sheldon's lunch it was great
cafaldi and i said mustafa what did you
think
i loved the spirit
of community
he felt the we in judaism
around the same time i traveled to
harvard
to the john f kennedy center where i
interviewed
man i think is the world's greatest
sociologist robert partner
and we were sitting in his office again
we did a conversation for an hour again
it's on the web
and uh he absolutely knocked me sideways
because
you can hear this he said and that's why
i converted to judaism he said to me
i was born a lutheran but lutheranism is
all about i
and judaism is all about us it's all
about community
thank you robert you're the world's
expert on community
and that's why you became jewish i
thought that was a great story
so that is
what the um
about the we and the eye the balance
between the two
the tikkun that we need through the
pandemic
is that for years now we've had too much
eye
in america and britain and all too
little we
and the pandemic has emphasized this and
accentuated it because
we can't govern with dominion we
weddings have been postponed
funerals uh have only a handful of
people going to the
minamitsa karateka you know we felt the
confinement and we cried out to hashem
but we found ourselves far far far too
much on our own
we have to bring back as soon as it's
safe to do so the we
back into jewish life we have to do the
limb we have to do the we have as soon
as it's safe to do so
to reach out to the elderly the isolated
the infirm the people who failed
really badly cut off from
others because we needed takiyas to um
not just the miyusha judaism is about us
as a community not just us
as a discreet collection of individuals
and that is the second thing bring back
the we
as soon as we can and then finally
let me just say this
of isaac that we read about on the
second day the hardest episode
of all in the torah as far as i'm
concerned we all know
the long history of interpretation of
this from ghazal
to the mufarashim all the way to rav
soloveitchik and
his dialogue with with with kyoko guard
and so on
i want to suggest a completely
completely different explanation
and again because of the pandemic
and here it is under the rubric of
shivin panim
that there are 70 faces to terror
i want to tell you a very personal story
a rather painful story
just this summer during the pandemic
elena and i had the privilege of
joy of celebrating our golden wedding
anniversary
which brought back memories
of 50 years ago and one of those is a
very
pointed memory indeed we were on our
honeymoon
this little italian town called pasteum
which has roman ruins a very nice beach
and a
lovely glittering sea
it was the most gorgeous day imaginable
and i wanted to go out into the sea
because it looked so lovely and there
was only one problem that my parents
alain shalom never read the gemara that
said you should teach
your child how to swim so i couldn't
swim
and then i looked and i could see that
actually people were 100 yards out into
the sea but the water was only up to
their knees
so i said to elaine i'm going to battle
out there and
you can see i'll be out there 100 yards
in the sea and the water will be
only up to my knees so i did it and it
was
i turned around and started walking back
to a lane
and after about a minute
i found myself out of my depth
i can't swim and
there was no one near
and as i went down under for the fifth
time i knew that was the end
and i remember thinking two things
number one what a way to begin our
honeymoon
and number two what's the italian for
help
well as you can probably guess
somebody did see me and did rescue me
otherwise i wouldn't be here and
carry me pretty much unconscious
to deposit me at elaine's feet
i never discovered who it was
someone somewhere out there is someone
who saved my life
but this i can tell you that after that
experience
every single day for 50 years i know
what it is to say because
for giving me back my life what you have
almost
lost you never ever again
take for granted
isaac was the first jewish child
alec wanted jews to become the world's
most
child caring child-centered civilization
he wanted us never ever
to take our children for granted
and so he brought it about
that avraham nearly lost his child
he was never going to lose him
but he didn't know that
he nearly lost his child
and the end result was that not abraham
nor any
jew since took
their children for granted
there's um an american israeli cool
you'll see kleiner levy
who i don't know 10 15 years ago wrote a
book called
at the entrance to the garden of eden
trying to find some common ground
between jews christians and muslims in
the middle east
i have to say he didn't really find it
but there is one passage there that i
will never forget there is a lady
nun head of a convent in israel
who clearly doesn't like jews very much
but who said
seeing israelis with their children is a
lesson
to the whole world everyone should watch
how they do it
she actually said every jewish child
has two mothers because every jewish
father
is as caring as every jewish mother and
she's just blown away by that phenomenon
and that is the continuing
of the fact that we nearly lost the
first jewish child
we nearly lost the state of israel
why did god tell abraham his children
would have to go into exile and suffer
it
why because they nearly lost their land
and therefore they never took it for
granted ever again
and the end result is jews remain more
attached to the land despite the fact
that they were separated
from it for 2000 years than any people
has ever been attached to a land
and that is why it happens
and this is what we should take from the
coronavirus pandemic
every one of us was in some kind of
the every one of us was in some kind of
danger and didn't go into the details
you know this
and what we risk losing we never take
for granted
any of us if we're honest know that we
stood
in risk of losing our lives rahman
al-islam
and therefore the lesson we take from
this is never take life for granted
that concept is essential to rosh
hashanah and yom kippur
everything we talk about and pray for is
life
at the end of una tana tokef we remind
ourselves
how fragile life is like a fleeting
cloud of flying dreamer
charlotte pottery life is short it's
fragile and the rambam says
that god gives us only one thing
but it's everything god gives
us life what i hope we will take away
certainly what i took away
from this very difficult brush
with pandemic and with danger is how
precious life is how holy life is
how nishmat khalhai devarekh
how every breath of life that we take
is in some sense potentially a praise of
god
every single day in the coming year we
should feel
thanks for life wonder at life an inward
sense
of the beauty of life
[Music]
what can i say someone who i can
literally in the middle of the night i
could just pick up the phone
and just dial if i ever have a problem
and just call him up
and that is my my great java
and we are both khavayrim on the
the nissius the presidium of the ego
darabanen
but we are very close in fact he has
me as a lecturer at his title
he has his the title of rome where he is
the rosh kylo
and he produces great talmidim
rabonin and we're talking about none
other than my great
java rav jakob
[Music]
should give him a rafish lama yaakov
david
then simha he hasn't been well but barak
hashem
the doctors have given him a clear slate
and because of that he is able to join
us this evening
and it is my greatest pleasure to
present
someone who has made he's he's
phenomenal he's on the radio
he's done his key roof he's done his
outreach for claudia's role so many
different venues
and i have to i have to give a thanks
that he's
again joining with us this evening
again please welcome i want to
bid you to join us without further ado
harab spivak
you know after the kind of year we've
had
i was thinking about what would be
appropriate to say
at this home of the drush
and many hazel came to my mind some of
which i
intend to use but the first thing that
came to my mind strangely enough
was an old saying my bubby from riga
he used to say when things got bad
when it was a depressing time
when there was is illness for shalom as
we have in our world today
my bubby would come up with a statement
as i yoga my nassaunam
my enemies should have a year like this
my enemy should have a year like this
and i'm sure that many of us out there
think that after the pandemic
and after the economic crisis
and after the rioting in the streets and
all the things that have gone wrong
we may not articulate it the way my
bubby did
but many of us are thinking on some
level
azalea minus on him
my enemy should have a year like this
year
and as we come to the end of the year
we have to ask ourselves
what what does all these things mean
why for the first time in a century do
we have a pandemic
it's affecting millions of people
why at the same time are all the other
things happening
the first ghazal or the first words of
the uh of our great sages
in recent times the first words come
from
a little muddy town in poland
rodden we're a very very short man with
a high voice
named every trail mayor kagan
known to the world as the huffits hayem
came up to us in his writings in 1895
and he talked about quote unquote
natural
disasters
that he says
so have we heard about all the awful
awful things that are happening lately
in our world
come on check if i know about america
medina medina like the floods that are
happening in america and in germany and
in
every country
horrible things that makes the
the the listeners ears ring
and then the trying says words of
brilliance
god forbid we should think that this is
just an
acroy baamun an occurrence a general
occurrence an accidental occurrence it
was it was nothing behind it
zlayam we should never believe that and
then we in our generation should not
believe that the pandemic is something
that happened
just accidentally now they're saying it
came out of the earth
was it an accident or was there more to
it
what message do we take away and says
the cup it's heim
in 1895 around that time he wrote this
keolaina lagasse because we have to know
shot
and not by accident or just uh
i i i coincidentally did these things
happen
allah me somayamhi
rather it is a warning from heaven
leave nao the mashabara
mankind has to do chuva repent
for all the terrible things
that he did
because we without cuba
we are very vulnerable we all we have no
security at
all in things like things like this
it is an amazing thought
we live in a world that has taken god
out of
out of the courts out of this public
school systems because this is
this is a a a a warning not only to
israel but to the jewish to the new
muslim nations of the world as well
and this warning is we have to
understand
that god created a world with a teva
with a
with a natural order of things with a
belief in god and
natural relationships between human
beings
and when we live with the teva that
can
a part of a nature because the nature of
the jewish people to be free the nature
of the world that the
israel would get torah and therefore was
also part of the nature
as the year that they see should split
so when we go with the temper the terror
goes
with us
but rabbi's side when we go against the
teva
when we go against nature
then nature goes against us
at this time it is not clear
how this thing started whether it was in
a in a laboratory in wuhan in china or
but most of the scientists have lean
effect it just came out naturally out of
the ground
it came out of the ground this covered
19 came out of the ground
and and and wrecked our economy
and and and did cause people not to have
money
rioting all the kinds of things that
happened because of the fact that
we we changed the nature all the things
that i called his borough who wanted
from us
we changed this is no good
this torah law is no good and this is no
good and we'll do this and we'll do that
and we're going to go against nature
and then when you do that nature goes
against you
now this is a perfect time of year to do
tuba
how does ello is coming
here perfect time to do chuva
and that's what can turn things around
i want to talk not only about amy israel
doing super but the entire world
the world had sheva mrs vinay noah the
seven noah's commandments and one of
them
was not to kill
and the most incredible thing here is
this
there's a pussac in bamidbar lamin
that says let's talk about eric's israel
but i believe it means
in general
that when a murder takes place the
ground
upon which that murder took place will
not be forgiven
for the blood that is spilled in it
except by bringing that
murderer to justice and executing them
that is what has to happen
and it's an old story but it keeps
coming up
again and again are you aware of the
fact
that auschwitz had 8 000 people running
it
and only 800 were ever prosecuted that
means that
90 of the people many of them
murderers on hands murderers of
children and women and innocent people
and elderly
were never brought to justice the ground
of the earth was
never forgiven for the blood that was
spilled in it
never and the ground
and what happened in nuremberg the
nuremberg trials were a dog and pony
show
even the prosecutors admitted we have it
on in film
we didn't bring anywhere near the people
that killed the justice
nazi generals became heads of nato
the heads of banks were people who ran
concentration camps
murderers went free
we were only interested in one thing
in getting what we wanted the whole
world let me grab this nazi scientist
let me grab this one
we grew up in a world in which vernon
von braun a nazi scientist was praised
as the
head of the american space program a man
who in pina mundi and other places used
jewish slave labor
to build his rockets to rain down on
london and kill the
innocent civilian population
so the land is not forgiven until you
spill the blood you
execute the murderers so why now all of
a sudden
why now if you notice the last of the
nazis are dying out
and there's no way to bring them to
justice
so the justice must be meted out on the
entire
world the entire world
the meforshim say that the reason
that shim and the lady were were
supposed to destroy the city of
islamists because
never brought a ism to justice
never brought him to justice and one of
the ideas that said mr villanova is to
make
to make what they did they didn't do it
so the whole city was high of mesa
i'm not saying the world is high at
least but the world is kind of a
punishment
for never bringing justice to these
people
never and the world is higher
for for changing the keva of the world
and the prophet saying says
don't think the khalilah
khalilah don't think that this
is that it was
the hand of
of just an accidental occurrence just
happened
it happens stuff happens that's not what
it is
but we can change it because even though
we can't bring those people to justice
we can do massachusetts in the world and
massachusetts in the world
will bring people back to akrishborohu
and will cause the world to heal
and that's what we must have a world
that heals
and that's what we have to do chufa for
that's what we have to stand in front of
our cottageborough
and ask for chuva for for
uh for me
and and and alkane de crota bola foneco
i translated therefore
we i translate we plead for him we plead
for the nations of the world
some of this year we feel it more than
ever
in the words of the cup it's kind from
that little muddy town of rotten in
poland
more than 120 years ago come ringing
down in our ears
now is the time for chuva we've muffled
a lot of chances
but we still have one on the chuva of
kurdish
russia
psychiatry throughout shalom all
yesterday
and most of all my friend khazakh
thank you rav spivak for your inspiring
words
the next speaker i don't personally know
but we have a lot in common he is a
columnist
i'm a columnist he's his title
is rabbinic editor i'm called torah
editor senior torah editor
which is basically the same thing
rabbinic editor he
is columnist and rabbinic editor
at uh ami magazine and i
am the same at the jewish press
very interesting i am a revenue shoe
buffalo from 2000
and 2003 until 2015.
presently he's rav in young israel of
holliswood
in queens
he was manila at tulsi riverdale and
currently
he is a rebbe who teaches
at the basiaco the queens basiaco which
is known as sheva high school
and it's a great school my cousin
is one of the talmidos of that school
she today lives in arizona
so whatever you are doing rabbi taub
i have to give you a great ashikayach
and i am very pleased that you are
joining with us this evening
and you are giving us beautiful words
of of khizuk for
the coming year tough shin pay aleph
thank you
it's a tremendous covenant tremendous
house to
share briefly words of chris and osiris
as we enter into a very peculiar
very strange very odd ellsman
and yemen and i have a confession to
make this is
by far not the first time i recorded
or sought to record this video i sat in
my office for two hours this afternoon
and i've recorded this video over and
over and over again
and the reason for my repetition is that
each time i record the video it's too
long it's 20 minutes 25 minutes
to 20 to 18 i got it down to 11 minutes
there's so much to say especially this
year
but i know how valuable my dear chaverum
your time
is so i'm going to keep it as brief as
possible and it's certainly true
that we have to speak about our karazhan
we have to speak about the fact that
last year we said
who knew what we were dominating for
america
and we survived we made it everybody in
our kahila who will be with us
before they david for their own life has
to thank akadesh barucho
that they made it through maggie for
that killed millions
and it's also certainly true that this
year
we have to mention the fact that
sometime
in october this past year or early
november
we don't know exactly when patient zero
happened
but some fellow in wuhan
china thousands of miles away on his
lunch break
decides to go to a wet market and eat
bat for lunch
what's in anybody's business he thinks
to himself that i like bath
ah madness it's a strange temptation
but what's it the world's business from
that one lunch
then the whole world was turned upside
down
millions died what a monster haskell for
all of us
that if this is true for a guy in china
imagine the butterfly effect imagine the
rube goldberg effect
imagine the repercussions for a from yid
an orthodox jew a sin
an aveda of omission or commission
imagine that butterfly effect
there is a lot of muslim to take from
these past several months
but as i said i'll be brief so i just
want to share instead
of focusing on those two earlier items
on a story
several years ago a video came out it
was unearthed everybody was excited it
was passed around men
and women and children of all ages
witnessed it
a video of the arriving at the a good
conference the very first one it was an
exciting moment
came alive for all of us if you're like
me you've watched the video
on a loop hundreds of times
and i wondered what was going through
the mind of the
what happened right before this video
was taken what was he thinking about
on the train ride from radhan and i
happen to know the answer
and the safer mayor aina israel it
brings that when the
travel right before that video from
radha and he arrives at the train
station he gets off
and who does he have into lo and behold
the holy rabbit of gareth
and he says to them as you know in lush
there are a number of words for time and
distance so
for example the word machar means
tomorrow
tomorrow mamash literally a tomorrow but
as russian because i'll explain it could
also mean
a further tomorrow a more poetic
tomorrow a more distant
tomorrow and so too the word
achar for after is sometimes spelled
akharae
when it's spelled it means immediately
immediately following that event but
when it says ah
it's more distant so then emiryamus is
listening to this
this is what was going through the mind
as he was traveling
that's the case if an immediate
right away back-to-back and more distant
then why is it in one of the most
fundamental sukim
in all of safer development in my
sherabenu's largely
final drush at the canessa sister why
does the posix say
hashem
you should follow after hashem him you
should fear that's been spiced up
to shemaru you should guard his mitzvoth
[Music]
it shouldn't be distant it should be
close if we're following after hashem
we have to be close not distant
ms waited what time have to say and says
to the person who feels that
akadesparahu
he doesn't need that this possum is
written
for an individual who feels that akadesh
baraku is far away
this passage is written for someone who
lives during a
this magefa is written for someone who
lived during a time
that akadesh bharara who threw him out
of the base agnes
for five months straight a person who
feels
so so distant from the rabbish both
because of because of health but also
because of the world
around us and the pulsar is not just
telling a command
but a promise that even an ahrefs
even if you feel far from hashem
you got so comfortable davening alone at
home
hashem is still waiting for you you
could still have
a close relationship with him
is not just true about our relationship
with the rabbinicial
i i find it amazing to say but this year
will be 19 years since my mother passed
away
and i can't say anymore that i have an
achar
relationship with her it's an acharya my
child's already back from seminary who's
named after her
i'm not just distant from her and we're
not just distant from our parents and
grandparents
who have passed on merely in years my
my mother who grew up in the 40s and 50s
and 60s could she even relate
to the taivos to the nicionos that we
have today
but even the acharya we could remain
close to those generations of old
even if we're distant from the times of
major rebels because of asgard no
tyros we have to reattach ourselves
not even though we're distant
but because we're distant
i already took so much of your time and
i just i want to end
with the words of the satmareba
so beautifully quotes the puzzle
from the beginning of the year to the
end of the year it says the samara it's
interesting isn't it
why the lack of a hay by the second
shanna
says the
beginning of the shi it's hashem now
this is going to be
the year this is going to be the year
that we accomplish
everything we wanted to accomplish by
the end of the year
if we don't accomplish it if we don't
fulfill
all of our promises by naila we say okay
this is just
this is just another year let us hope
that this year will be mauritius
this should be the year of our de vegas
our closeness to our
sparkle our closeness to our kihilos
and the closest she
and all my guevos
eva
rabbi taub thank you for your kind words
and as we say
your words and the words of
all of the other presenters this
particular evening
we hope that they touch the hearts
of rabonim of laypeople
whoever is watching this
every single segment of claudius earl
who is going to see this event tonight
we hope that it will affect you affect
your tila
for the coming year and with this the
rabbani shalom
should grant us a tough shin pay aleph
that is very very different from the
tough shin pay
that we have experienced thank you and i
want to wish everyone
and with this we close this session
which as we said
is
eisner our executive vice president
secretary clinton
presented and sponsored by his
ashes kyle the rabbitson feige
eisner and mishpache and the family
thank you so much
