Rabbi YY Jacobson Chanukah 5780 Day #8: The Matzah Ball, the Hamantash and the Latke

[Music] it's one of my favorite stories a vicious anti-semitic governor issues forth a new edict against all of the Jews living in his province he gathers together all the Jewish people the men and the women and their children conveying to them his new horrible decree against them the poor Jews are weeping and sobbing pleading for mercy and compassion but one alte utila one old Jew is standing in the back and laughing and the scientists admitted governor is enraged why are you laughing what's so funny as he continues with his rant against the Jewish people but this Jew simply can't contain himself he's laughing out loud and this governor now is furious like you tell me right now what is so funny about this that you looks at him and says you know you're not the first person to stand up against us many many years ago there was a pharaoh who wanted to obliterate the Jewish people well you know what happened he's gone we are here and in honor of his defeat we created a beautiful holiday called Pesach and we even have a special food that we eat on the holiday it's called matzo years later they came another fella by the name of Haman he also plotted genocide against the Jewish people well you know what the end of that story is he's gone we're here and in honor of his defeat we created another lovely holiday called for him and we have a special food that we eat then called hamantaschen and then years later there was another fellow who wanted to rid us from the planet his name Antiochus you know the end of his story well he's gone we're here and in honor of his defeat we have a great holiday with a special food to commemorate his defeat called Hanukkah lapkus Pharaoh gave us the matzo ball Haman gave us the hamantash Antiochus gave us the latke and I look at you and I ask myself what food are we going to create in honor of your defeat we are God's people God is eternal his people are eternal are calling today is to stand tall as Jews and embrace our Yiddish kind with the greatest passion and love and to become living examples of love life healing goodness hope justice and morality to the entire world around us Happy Hanukkah [Music] the yeshiva dotnet [Music]
