two News at 6 Logan you're okay yeah uh I can't tell you guys where I am or what I'm doing uh but there is stuff going on when War erupted in his homeland that Fort Meers man said he had no choice but to leave his wife and young child in Fort Meyers to go fight against Hamas terrorists and tonight he's talking to nbc2 from the battlefield thanks for joining us I'm Peter bush and I'm Kelly Burns Logan elff is a former Special Forces Soldier and reservist in the Israeli Defense Force nbc2 Samantha serban is live from habad Lovich of Southwest Florida in Fort Meers with local efforts to support Israel in a war that's already claimed 14 American lives Logan alap says being in Israel makes it clear this war is far worse than anyone here in the states could imagine leaving his family was tough but he says his heart is in the holy land so first off I want to say that uh the situation is uh is very bad it's uh not a good situation before he started his night shift Logan Al took a few minutes to chat as bullets flew nearby you okay Logan you're okay yeah uh I can't tell you guys where I am or what I'm doing uh but there is stuff going on a former Special Forces Soldier Logan is one of many who made the choice to leave their family and safety in the US to fight for their country it say Rabbi I'm leaving to Israel oneway ticket in three hours from Miami I don't know when I'll see you it might be weeks it might be months I'm going to help my country this is just uh you you can't let it go this is unprecedented Logan can't share many details but he can't explain the devastation three guys from my uh uh unit a long time ago they were killed in the initial action um and another uh friend of ours uh Rockets attacked during his funeral um so those are those are some terrible terrible things it's kind of hysterical the civilian population is hysterical and they should be it's it's very very problematic listen to this you can't make this stuff up Alf doesn't know when he's coming home when I'll see his wife or young daughter again we don't have any idea when this war will end I'd like to believe that this is one big dream and we'll wake up and Rabbi what you're dreaming I would like to believe that unfortunately you know too many people are pinching my skin and telling me it's true Logan says while they're thankful for the money being sent through different groups he says they need military gear now uh we need a lot of uh helmets we need a lot of uh protective vests uh those didn't come out for us those got sent to the front line which is great that's what it needs to go to but we don't have that Logan you're a hero for our community and you're sending a most powerful message I can only imagine how scary it must be to be fighting in a violent War like this without some of that essential protective gear that they so desperately need Logan tells me this is the largest mandatory callup of reserves since a Yom capore War 50 years ago Samantha I know security is being increased were hearing maybe at temples and Jewish community centers in Southwest Florida yeah Kelly when we were leaving from here at the temple this morning we actually saw an lcso Deputy coming in through the gates to check the area I spoke with him and he says that's something they're doing at many of the temples and the synagogues in this area just to keep an extra eye out in case anything were to happen they want to be ready I'm live in local in Fort Meers samanth serban and bc2
