it's time for rabbi minkowitz weekly
tour lesson a place where life's most
difficult questions are answered here
with his spiritual perspective and
insight rabbi minkowitz welcome to this
week's torah lesson this week's torah
portion as postures told us the question
of the week is
how careful do you have to be not to
gossip so in this week's torah portion
partial toldos we learn about gitzhak
wanting to bless his son esau
so torah opens and tells us
that yitzchak was blind and he wanted to
bless his son esau and he calls his son
esau in and the whole story with the
blessing
so the rebbe asks a simple question we
know that god blessed
yitzhak
god blessed isaac
and if he blessed him
how could it be that a man that's
blessed should be blind
not only that we know that a blind
person is considered spiritually dead he
can't see
so how could it be that one of the
patriarchs would be blind and considered
a blessed man
so the rebbe explains a fascinating
insight based on a mattress that says as
follows
that yitzchak very much wanted to bless
his son esau
rebecca wanted to bless their son
yaakov
jacob
god agreed with rebecca the blessing
should go to jacob
the problem was yitzchak could not
comprehend and see that he still felt
that the blessing should go to esau he's
oldest and he felt he had potential
which was true and potential he was a
great guy
so god wanted that yitzhak isaac should
bless yaakov jacob so what did he do
god made the yitzhak shree blind
he can see and therefore they'll put
jacob in front of him and he blesses
yaakov he blesses jacob
so the rebbe asks a simple question
if god wanted
the blessings to go from isaac from
yitzchak to yaakov to jacob very simple
he could have came to yitzchak and isaac
said listen i know you want to bless
your son esau but jacob is a good boy
esau has many issues reveal to him what
the issues are
and it would have been a no-brainer he
would have blessed
jacob without having to come blind why
didn't god do that
so the commentaries say here you see
something profound that the
transgression of talking negative and
gossip about another person even if it's
true
is so severe that god did not want to
transgress
talking bad about someone else even if
it was true and how much more so if it's
not true so therefore god went ahead and
blinded yitzhak
and as we said before blinding is
considered as if he's dead just so that
god should not have to talk negatively
about esau
what's the lesson ruby says a simple
lesson for us if god went out of his way
and did something which i'm sure he was
uncomfortable doing
of the two choices but nevertheless
god refused to speak negatively how much
more so do we should we be careful about
speaking negative about another human
being so the answer to the question how
important is it not to speak lost in
hara as you can see extremely important
to stay away from any lash and hara any
gossip or anything negative about
another human being
