welcome to this week's torah lesson this week's torah portion is pashas from spotim the question of the week is how do we not get caught up in exile so in this week's torah portion partisan the torah begins these are the laws that we're going to present to you and it starts off with the first law about acquiring a slave so everybody asks a simple question we're just coming from mountain torah receive such beautiful commandments about learning torah respecting your parents keeping shabbos about god why is the first halacha the first law of learning about as a slave and robert explains something very beautiful and he says as follows all the beautiful commandments we love them but when it comes to working and getting involved in the materialistic world who wants to be involved in materialistic world you want to live a spiritual life comes along the terminator says you know what the first law is you have to work a person has to work chase is young for six days we have to work but the goal is we have to remember the torah tells us even after you work the end goal is that the seventh year you go free you know this work is not supposed to be forever getting involved in the work is not supposed to be everlasting and if somebody wants to go on longer as the torah says i love my wife and i love my my children etc so they give an option to stay longer but ultimately we're not we're not meant to be in goals we're not meant to be in exile how do we have the power to stay focused not get caught up in exile trevor explains very simple we have the torah and the torah never went into exile the terror is above exile like the prophet says the words of hashem are like fire and like we know that torah doesn't become impure the same thing also when we connect to the torah we will not be in exile so the answer the question how can we not get caught up in exile by learning torah and being connected to torah we will stay focused be able to work but have our head above water and be in the world but out of the world and experience freedom even in gullis this week's torah lesson is dedicated to the memory of bharach benariyalev and josef and rahul baslipa may their souls be elevated by the torah we're studying in their memory thanks so much for joining us for our weekly torah lesson for more information please see our website swf.org have a great and blessed week
