Welcome to our weekly Torah lesson. This
week's Torah portion is Paras Korak. The
question of the week is how should you
treat your enemies? So in this week's
Torah portion, Paras Korak, we learn
about the famous war of Korak and his
people against Moses. God intervenes and
realizes uh
oh Korak and all the his whole community
and Dam of rebelled against the leader
Moses. The fate of Korak and his
community was sealed and God said he is
going to destroy them. He told Moses to
go out to the community to tell everyone
to move aside because Korak and his
whole community were going to be taken
revenge by God.
Moses, the one that they were fighting
against, so to speak, Moses's enemies.
Moses says, the Torah tells us Yakum, he
gets up and he goes to the house of Dam.
If Moses goes, all the elders come with
him. Why did Moses go? So the
commentaries tell us Moses went to see
if he can inspire
Dam to do chuva and
repent. So the Rebi asks a simple
question. Dustin Korak, their whole
community, they were Moses's
enemy. They embarrassed him. They fought
him. God already said they're going to
be punished. Death penalty.
Nevertheless, Moses, a true leader and a
true humble Jew, goes ahead to give them
a last chance to repent. And the Rebi
says here, we see a powerful lesson how
we're supposed to treat another human
being. Our job is, whoever it may be,
even if they're our enemies, and how
much more so if they're not our enemies,
just acting inappropriately out of
ignorance, to learn from Moses, to give
them love, and to give them another
chance to hopefully do chuva and have
true
repentance. So to answer the question,
how should we treat our enemies? Learn
from Moses, give them love, and give
them a second chance. This week's Torah
