[Applause] it's time for rabbi mankiewicz weekly Torah lesson here with his spiritual perspective and insight rabbi mankiewicz welcome to this week's Torah lesson this week's Torah portion is again a double portion parshas Bihar and buco say the question of the week is does God want us to work or does God want us to pray so in this week's Torah portion Pasha's Behar and the tutorial portion is behind but we're gonna say right in the beginning the Torah teaches us the laws about Sri Tov one of the laws of shmita that every seven years after you work for six years the land lines fallow for seven years then the Torah continues every seven sets of seven years that means after you finish 49 years comes a jubilee year and jubilee year also the land lies fallow so the Torah says you would ask a question I'm not gonna work in the in the seventh year in the Jubilee year how am I gonna eat and the tour is interesting that's her response like this I'm gonna give my blessing that in the sixth year it's going to produce it's going to produce for three years so the Rebbe asked the question God could make many miracles that the people's need he could make it people won't have to eat why do we have to eat because God means that we have to eat he could maybe we don't have to eat he could have made that wood if we eat a little bit it will ask the food will last within us for so long but nevertheless you see clearly the Torah says don't know I want you to work for six years seventy I want you to rest I want you to work for the for the old 49 years besides the seventh year and then come to 50 if you get the rest then the Torah says what's gonna happen how am I gonna eat in the seventh year and I didn't plow I didn't work so Torah says God specifically I'm gonna command my blessing and the work that you put in the six year will last for three years in other words what's God's message God's message is he wants us not to passively work he wants us to work for six years and matter of fact our that six years working as a commandant we have an obligation to work for six years God wants us to work but God wants us to remember the even after all said and done ultimately the reason why the land gives forth what it gives forth is because of the blessing of God or as d-ball Shantou says it says the shafts are it's that we have to take the shuff so we have to take the Shabbos the spirituality and infuse that into the physical land so to answer the question does God want us to work does he want us to pray and the answers he wants both he wants us to work and he wants us to work very very hard but he also wants us to pray because he wants us all turning to realize the reason why our work is gonna produce is because of our prayers and of its evcs because see the blessing that God gives each and every one of us thanks so much for joining us for our weekly Torah lesson this week's Torah lesson is dedicated to the memory of bora pandari lathe and and Yosef may the souls be elevated by the Torah that was studying in their memory for more information about Chabad please see our website [Applause] [Music]
