welcome to this week's torah lesson this week's torah portion is passages by midbar the question of the week is what does hashem love so much about the jewish people so in this week's torah portion passage by midbar we learned about hashem telling moishaban to count the jewish people so rashi says why is hashem always counting the jewish people and he explains because hashem loves us therefore he's counting us do you ever ask a simple question why do you count something that you love because you want to know how much it is how much you have so you keep on counting it hashem knows how many jewish people there are so why does he keep on counting it so double explain something so beautifully he says like this if you think about it hashem when he counts the jewish people the fact is as the elders there's the youngers there's the holy people there's a simple people all different types of people so really it's not fear to count everyone just one some people should get a two and some are three some are ten maybe some of zero possibly what's this everyone gets the same number and there ever explains exactly when hashem counts the jewish people and he said i'm counting every single person has won because there is something beautiful and unique about every single person not because of what you do not because what you accomplished not because what you didn't do every single person is special and loved by hashem just for who you are now the fact is that's not really the way society looks at people what this one do what does he do what he's saying what is he going to do where has he been et cetera so what happens is the specialness of the human being on its own is not noticed so hashem is trying to accentuate this beauty that everybody has as one individual you are created by hashem you are special you are unique not because what you've done not because you're going to do not because your parents did you are special that is not noticed so therefore rashi says hashem loves us for who we are and that's why he keeps on counting us over and over again because when you count what are you saying you're special we're all one everybody only only gets one number everyone gets counted once and that brings out the specialness that we are everyone is special in the eyes of god so the answer to the question what does hashem consider us special for just because who we are everybody has the same special smile from hashem for who we are thanks so much for joining us for our weekly tour lesson this week's torah lesson is dedicated to the memory of barack may the souls be elevated by the torah we're studying in their memory have a great and blessed week shabu atov and happy shavuot
