Parsha Vayechi Chasidic Torah thought from Lubavitcher Rebbe by: Rabbi Yitzchok Minkowicz

Welcome to this week's Torah lesson. This week's Torah portion is the question of the week is why did Yadic receive from his father an extra portion? So in this week's Torah portion we learn about when Yseph comes to his father his father tells him tells him I'm giving you one extra piece more than your brothers. And the question is why is that? And the Reb explains that we know there's a major difference between Yadik and the brothers. [snorts] Yadic was all about bringing godliness down into the physical world to the lowest places which we know is connected to Torah. Torah is about bringing godly light all over the place. The brothers on the other hand was all about elevation. They wanted to disconnect from the world and they wanted to go away from the challenge of life. They wanted to be shepherds. Y on the other hand went down to the lowest places. By going down to the lowest places he was after was able to elevate from the lowest to the highest. And that's when Yakov [snorts] saw Ysef and he said you Ysef the one that's going down to the lowest places and I'm going to give you the extra gift. So they answer the question why did Yakov give Yseph the extra gift? Because he saw in Ysef that Yosph wasn't someone escaping from the world, running away from the world, disconnecting from the world, but he was ready to get involved in the world, the lowest places in the world, and the world didn't affect him. And he had the power by going so low and so deep, but remaining connected so high, he was elevate, able to elevate the lowest places to Hashem.
