here in Southwest Florida. Because of that, on this second night of Hanukkah, our Jewish community is on high alert. This is Wink News at 5. Hello again everybody. I'm Chris Defotty >> and I'm Lois Tommy. We bring you team coverage this afternoon of what's being done to put those concerns at ease. We begin with Wink News reporter Amy Gallow live from the Manura in downtown Fort Myers. And Amy, incidents like these, no matter how far away, put safety and security top of mind. Yeah, it certainly is at the forefront for all of our local law enforcement agencies as people across Southwest Florida gear up to start their celebrations and events. And for local religious leaders, it's also top of mind, but in the way that they do not want people to see terror as something that gets in the way of their celebrations or their sense of hope. The triumph of light over darkness has always been at the center of Hanukkah. >> It's all about light. It's all about hope. It's all about happiness >> even in a time of mourning as the flowers pile high and people gather [singing] >> to pay their respects for the lives lost on Bondi Beach, Australia. That message is clear >> that if we don't come out and we stay hidden, the terrorists won. So we have to come out, stand strong, have faith, bring the light for ourselves, for our families, and for our community. That's why Rabbi Yeets Hawk Minkowitz at the Habad Labavich of Southwest Florida isn't letting terror get in the way. >> We had a beautiful celebration last night at Castle Golf. The community came out to celebrate and people were concerned. Are they going to come out? They're not going to come out, you know, because of what happened in Australia. But thank God people came out. People are strong. >> As Jews come together to celebrate their faith, the Lee Collier and Charlotte County Sheriff's offices are keeping them safe. So, we heightened our patrols of doing extra patrols around here. We're also in contact with the rabbis themselves from a couple of Chabbad houses >> and asking you to be more vigilant, too. >> I think at the end of the day, they just need to watch their surroundings and see what's going on. If they see anything out of the norm or someone just doesn't look like they belong there, just to give us a call and let us check them out or see what's going on. >> The Lee and Collier Sheriff's offices also shared statements on safety measures following the attack.
