Welcome to this week's Torah lesson.
This week we're celebrating the holiday
of Rosh Hashanah, and the question of
the week is why won't we be blowing the
shofar
on Rosh Hashanah
even though it's Shabbat?
So, this week, as we're getting ready to
celebrate Rosh Hashanah, we know the
highlight of Rosh Hashanah is all about
blowing the shofar.
Why do we need to blow the shofar? So,
to inspire God to continue to be our
king.
Come Shabbat, we're not going to blow
the shofar. How are we going to
accomplish that?
So, the Rebbe explains and he says like
this, the purpose of blowing the shofar
is to awaken ta'anug, pleasure that God
should want to be our king. Shabbat has
that ta'anug.
But then the question is, Shabbat has
the ta'anug, how come in the times of
the temple they blew it? And the Rebbe
explains because in the times of the
temple, they were able to draw that in
greater ta'anug.
But nevertheless, you find that even
though we don't blow the shofar, we
recite verses that talk about the
mitzvah of shofar on Shabbat Rosh
Hashanah. Why is that?
Because yes, on Shabbat, ta'anug is
there, and that's why God wants to be
the king. But in order for that pleasure
and that deep pleasure should come down
into this world where God should
actually be the king, we need [snorts]
to say the words of shofar.
And by saying the words of the shofar,
which is different verses from the
Torah, and we know according to
Kabbalah, the source of Torah is higher
than the source of mitzvot. So, by
[snorts] saying the verses of shofar, we
actually draw down that same pleasure
into this physical world by us doing
which work? Not necessarily the work of
blowing the shofar, but the work of
saying the words of Torah. Cuz Torah is
Torah.
And the Rebbe finishes off with
something very powerful. What's the holy
day of Shabbat? Ta'anug, pleasure,
menucha, calm, relaxation. So, we have
the power this Rosh Hashanah to affect
that our whole year should be a year of
calm, peace, full of the most amazing,
beautiful blessings. Thanks so much for
joining us for our weekly Torah lesson.

Have a great blessed week. Have a shana

should all be signed and sealed for a
great year, a good year, a healthy year
and most importantly the Rebbe says a
year of true menucha, peace and
happiness and tranquility.
Shabbat shalom and shana tova u'metuka.
